Learning Transformations in 6th grade
Learning Transformations can be difficult for students of all ages without Proper Imaging and Explanation.
Transformations can be taught simply through practical images, tools in class (such as graphs, waxing paper,
and rulers for straight edges), they can be also be taught using wonderful websites such as Math Is Fun.

Transformation
• Moving a shape so that it is in a different position, but still has the same size, area,
angles and line lengths.
• Turn, flip or slide are the basic moves
What Is a Transformation?
These are Transformations:
• Reflection
• Translation
• Rotation

What is a Translation….Slide!
Translation- simply means moving ...
... without rotating, resizing or anything else, just moving Every point of the shape or object must move:•the same distance •in the same direction

Translation Online…

Through various websites, any student can learn and practice sliding or TRANSLATING objects. Mathisfun.com is an excellent site that provides tools very useful for discovery and fun with sliding objects. In the example shown, I simply slid the Original object 3 units down (Vertical-Up and Down) and 3 units left (Horizontal-Left to Right or Side to Side
What is a Refection...Flip!
Reflections are everywhere , in mirrors, glass, and in lakes.!
Every point is the same distance from the central line ! ... and ...
The reflection has the same size as the original imageThe central line is called the Mirror Line ...
What can You see Through Reflections?
The reflection is not the small duck, or Amanda, the girl viewing her reflection. The reflection is can be seen from looking in the mirror or at the lake ( what is looking back).
Reflection with Shapes Online!

Again, on mathisfun.html, a student is also able to work reflecting simple shapes such as the rectangle I provided. The Purple rectangle was reflected over the line Y=X .
What Is a Rotation…Turn!
The distance from the center to any point on the shape stays the same.
Every point makes a circle around the center.

Here the Red Triangle was turned using Rotation at a 50 degree angle, with (0,0) being the center here). You can choose from a variety of angles and points to rotate your figure of choice.
