Jesus Is…(12:44-50)

JOHN 12:44-50

• And Jesus cried out and said, "Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world…

JOHN 12:44-50

• Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

Jesus Is…• A Revelation of The Father– To see Him is to see The Father

Henry… faith does not terminate in Christ, but

through him it is carried out to the Father, that sent him, to whom, as our end, we come by Christ as our way. The doctrine of Christ is

believed and received as the truth of God. The rest of a believing soul is in God through

Christ as Mediator; for its resignation to Christ is in order to being presented to God.

1 Timothy 2:5• For there is one God, and there is one mediator

between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

JOHN• (1:1) – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was

with God, and the Word was God.• (1:18) – o one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at

the Father's side, he has made him known.• (8:19) – They said to him therefore, "Where is your

Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.“

• (10:38) – …even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."

JOHN 14:8-9• Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and

it is enough for us." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

JOHN 1:18• No one has ever seen God. The One and Only Son

– the One who is at the Father's side – He has revealed Him. (HCSB)

Jesus is God…• (Col. 1:19) – …For in him all the fullness of God

was pleased to dwell• (Col. 2:9) – For in him the whole fullness of deity

dwells bodily• (Heb. 1:3) – He is the radiance of the glory of God

and the exact imprint of his nature…

Jesus Is…• A Revelation of The Father– To see Him is to see The Father

• A Light for The Darkness– To know Him is to escape the darkness

Darkness• (Prov. 4:19) – The way of the wicked is like darkness; They

do not know over what they stumble

• (Isa 5:20) – (sinners are described as…) “those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness”

• (Rom. 1:21) – For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened..

Jesus Is…• A Revelation of The Father– To see Him is to see The Father

• A Light for The Darkness– To know Him is to escape the darkness

• A Savior for The World– He came (first time) to SAVE men not JUDGE them

Matthew 8:12• … the outer darkness. In that place there will be

weeping and gnashing of teeth

PiperNothing will be the same again when you have him

as your light. Everything looks different in the Light of Christ…even now, his light will help you

bear the sorrows of darkness. It will be a soft glow to comfort you in your lonely room after

devastating loss. It will be a lamp on your troubled path. It will reveal the wise and loving face of God behind every frowning providence

Matthew 25:31-32

• When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

2 Corinthians 5:10• For we must all appear before the judgment seat

of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

2 Peter 3:9• The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some

count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance

J.C. RyleThe words of those who speak for God are not thrown

away because they seem not believed at the time. Christ's words, though despised and rejected by the Jews, did not fall to the ground. Those whom they

did not save they will condemn. There will be a resurrection of all faithful sermons at the last day.

Great is the responsibility of preachers! Their words are always doing good, or adding to the

condemnation of the lost. They are a savor of life to some and of death to others…

J.C. Ryle… Great is the responsibility of hearers! They may ridicule and despise sermons, but they will find to their cost at last that they must give account of all

they hear. The very sermons they now despise may be witnesses against them to their eternal ruin

Jesus Is…• A Revelation of The Father– To see Him is to see The Father

• A Light for The Darkness– To know Him is to escape the darkness

• A Savior for The World– He came (first time) to SAVE men not JUDGE them

• A Herald of The Gospel– He commands men to Eternal Life.

Mark 1:14-15• Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into

Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."
