(800) STEWART stewart.com In a ceaseless effort to shed light on poverty housing, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles recently launched its Building a Greater Los Angeles campaign to build and renovate 250 homes and then sell them to hardworking families. Thousands of volunteers gathered together in Los Angeles County in March of 2007 with former President Jimmy Carter to build and renovate the first 100 homes in the campaign. Harborside Terrace, a community of 16 duplexes in San Pedro, California was one of the first sites to be built. Designed by architect Juan Aceytuno, the three and four-bedroom townhomes were styled to blend in with the surrounding artisan-style neighborhoods. The two-story units of eight duplexes provide community residents a charming view of the nearby Port of Los Angeles. Vermont Village, a Los Angeles community, is a collection of 14 townhomes available in three or four bedrooms. Developed around a common open space, each home has a view of the neighborhood playground. The construction of every Habitat for Humanity home focuses on energy efficiency and green design.
