At the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute we believe that Jewish high-school kids should be given the forum to think deeply about themselves and forge their own identity. Our mission is to empower today’s teens with a sense of direction and purpose. We develop vibrant extracurricular educational programming, built on a strong academic base, that will challenge and stimulate your teenage son or daughter.

This is not school. We recognize that teens respond to dynamic, multisensory learning formats that promote exploration and discussion. Each session encourages active participation where your child will hold the microphone to voice his or her opinions.

Our exciting courses are developed by professional educators and presented by skilled facilitators in an environment that welcomes and embraces every student — regardless of observance or affiliation. The JLI Teens experience instills life-long knowledge, confidence, and a strong sense of Jewish pride.

Bottom line: It’s learning and it’s fun!

At JLI Teens students will:

LEARN to think critically as they explore various perspectives and ideas

ENRICH their minds with the highest level of Jewish scholarship

ANALYZE and debate with peers on issue-oriented concepts

DEVELOP effective leadership and communication skills

EXPAND their local Jewish social network

RELATE extracurricular study to expand their college applications

JLI Teens: Schedule meaning into your teenager’s extracurricular activities.

ISRAEL 3-D EXPERIENCEA Journey Through Time, Space, and Beyond

Through virtual time travel, teens will meet great Jewish leaders who’ve lived in the promised land, and discover their deep bond with the Land of Israel. Students will visit famous cities and ancient villages, and stand face-to-face with modern-day Israeli citizens in “virtual encounters,” to learn about their lives and interests.

Unlike any Jewish youth program out there, the ISRAEL 3-D EXPERIENCE is built on a strong Jewish academic framework that will deepen your teen’s appreciation for their homeland, national history, and identity.

THIS SERIES will explore many challenging

questions that stimulate passion and discussion:

Why does Judaism need a homeland?

What does it mean that Israel is a “holy” land?

What right do we have to the land of Israel?

Is there a media bias against Israel?

What is the secret to Israel’s survival?

Will there ever be peace in the Middle East?

BELIEVE IT OR NOT?Debating G-d, Creation, and the Battle Between Good and Evil

This course will tackle the greatest theological questions humanity has been asking for thousands of years. Students will stand alongside ancient Jewish thinkers who’ve grappled with powerful existential questions about G-d, morality, and dealing with life’s challenges.

Bridging age-old Jewish wisdom with modern thinking, your teen will be better prepared to develop a system of personal principles that will provide guidance and direction throughout his or her life.

THIS SERIES is an unprecedented opportunity for Jewish youth to

examine and debate many longstanding questions:

Is the belief in G-d based on faith or logic?

Are science and religion at odds with each other?

Does one have to believe in G-d to be a good person?

Is the Torah really G-d’s “word?” Is there any way to know?

If there’s a G-d, why do bad things happen to good people?

Does my life have a purpose?

OUR LAND OUR HISTORY OUR PEOPLE LOGIC VS. FAITH SCIENCE VS. RELIGION GOOD VS. EVIL

Adolescence: A Time of Growth“The mind of the adolescent becomes increasingly capable of abstract thought, of being able to view the world outside of oneself, to ask questions, and to engage in critical thinking. It is a time in which the teen struggles between dependence and independence as they attempt to forge their own sense of self and identity in the world. “This program helps to serve our youth with the

questions that need to be asked as they attempt to create their own identities as young Jews in a modern world. By providing the forum for safe exploration of such questions and their answers, the sessions will help stimulate critical thought as well as truly impassioned discussion, debate, and learning.” Joel Cahn, Psy.D., Clinical Psychologist
