Peace and Blessings All are welcome! Saint Michael’s is a place where people come to share their faith; to serve each other and the poor; to witness to the Gospel message, through prayer and almsgiving; and to celebrate the gift of sacrament, especially the gift of Eucharist each week. Our RE/Faith Formation, Generations of Faith, is an opportunity for families to enjoy fellowship, to grow in prayer and scripture, and to become part of a family that believes all are welcome. Please call our Catholic Community Life Coordinator: Mrs. Fran Simpson, at 706.791.4308 or email: [email protected], if you have any questions about our Catholic community life or with continuing your faith formation.

Helping you to live a Gospel inspired life in an increasingly secular world.

Give your child the gift of a wonderful Catholic Faith Formation experience with loving catechists and a faith-based curriculum.

A Family Prayer Heavenly Father, as Your chosen ones, we pray, as a family: For the church: That it may be a wise and compassionate guide for families of every configuration … we pray For all families throughout the world subject to violence, injustice or lack of resources … we pray For families who try to be loving and faithful in the midst of daily challenges and struggles … we pray For national policies and funding that support families and their needs … we pray For families separated by distance, issues of faith or other beliefs and viewpoints … we pray For children in need of foster care or adoption and those who choose to parent them … we pray For all families in this community, especially those dealing with illness or death … we pray

God of Mercy, and Creator of all life, we are all members of families, often struggling and imperfect. Help us to remember that Jesus, Mary, and Joseph [JMJ] lived together in faith and love, dependent upon You to sustain them. Show us how to love, accept and be grateful for our own families. Teach us how to forgive family members, who have wounded us. Grant us the grace to be the people you call us to be. We ask this in the name of Your Beloved and Holy Son, Jesus – Who is The Christ and Lord of all. Amen.

CWOC Crochet and Knit Ministry — Join us every Friday in the Fellowship Hall, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., to crochet or knit or to learn. Right now the group is working on hats and scarves to accompany the KofC coat drive. We say a simple prayer to begin, and we also knit and crochet shawls and baby blankets for those in need.

Saint Michael’s Book Club — meets each Thursday evening at 7:30 PM (1930) in Building 13, at the Religious Education Center. The Book Club is currently reading and discussing, “The Agony and the Ecstasy”, the story of Michelangelo. Books are chosen by the group. Come and join us in Building 13, at the Religious Education Center. If you have questions, contact Carol Marsh at (706) 860-6639 or Tom Dean at (706) 860-6946.

Our current study is "Matthew: The King and His Kingdom" by Jeff Cavins & Sarah Christmyer. It is an exciting look at Jesus' life — as a re-flection of the Israel's relationship with God. Come and join us on the Journey. If you have any questions, contact Tom Dean, at: 706.860.6946.

Stewardship St. Paul, in his letter to the Colossians, the second reading on this Feast of the Holy Family, points out qualities which not only are commendable in family members, but also in those who pursue stewardship as a way of life. Paul says, “Put on…heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” That is good advice under almost all circumstances. For us the Holy Family exemplifies what it means to be a family and how members of a family need to relate to one another. Certainly, all the above virtues speak to relationships between people. St. Paul suggests that how we treat one another is one of the most important considerations to being a true follower of the Lord. “Over all these, put on love.” How many times does Jesus remind us that the one commandment to which we need to be faithful is to “love one another?” Love is never easy, just as good stewardship is not easy. Love requires effort and commitment, and the willingness to forgive, which Paul also emphasizes. In terms of family relationships, we must work at loving one another, and we especially must strive to forgive one another. St. Paul calls love the “bond of perfection.” We cannot be perfect, of course, but we can love if we work at it. And, we can use that love to make our relationships within our families better and more complete.

THE HOLY FATHER’S PRAY INTENTION for December 2017

Universal: The Elderly. That the elderly, sustained by families and Christian communities, may apply their wisdom and experience to spreading the faith and forming the new generations.

FROM USCCB COMPENDIUM OF CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

456. What is the nature of the family in the plan of God? (CCC, 2201-2205, 2249) A man and a woman united in marriage form a family together with their children. God instituted the family and endowed it with its fundamental constitution. Marriage and the family are ordered to the good of the spouses and to the procreation and education of children. Members of the same family establish among themselves personal relationships and primary responsibilities. In Christ the family becomes the domestic church because it is a community of faith, of hope, and of charity.

Catholic Community Question This week’s Question: “What is the ‘Gossamer Legend’?” The answer to last week’s Question: “Who are the ‘Fathers of the Church’?” Theologians and writers of the first eight centuries, eminent in holiness and learning, are called – collectively – ‘Fathers of the Church’. They were such authoritative witnesses to the belief and teaching of the Church that their unanimous acceptance of key doctrines as divinely revealed has been regarded as evidence that such doctrines were so received by the Church consistent with Apostolic Tradition and the Sacred Scriptures. Their unanimous rejection of certain doctrines branded the ideas as heretical. (John 14:16-17 speaks of this guidance by the Holy Spirit!)

Paul Anthony Halladay,

When Mary looked up and saw the angels filling the sky at Jesus’ birth, she received a confirmation from God that this miracle was true. Then, when the shepherds found the infant in the manager and worshiped him, Mary knew again that the power of God was upon her. Luke tells us that Mary treasured these things in her heart. Today’s Gospel encounter with Simeon and Anna was yet another assurance that God’s hand was at work, confirming it all. Simeon had waited a lifetime to see the God-child.
