Itaipu-São Paulo 765 kV AC transmissionCustomer needs:

Power transfer of 6,300 MW hydro power generated at 60 Hz from Itaipu to the load center of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro

ABB response:A series compensated AC transmission link to transfer the full hydro power capacity; 7 banks delivered 1989, and 1 in 1998.

Customer benefits:ABB pioneered the world’s first 765 kV series compensation. Maximum power transfer raised significantly from the uncompensated stage of 4500 MW (designed max value: 8500 MW).

FACTS - ConclusionsIncreased grid reliability:

Proven FACTS technology available

Reinforcement of grids throughout Latin America

More power for consumers:

Boosts transfer capacity to metropolitan centers like Mexico City, São Paulo, Buenos Aires

An environmental alternative with fewer transmission lines

ABB is the worldwide leader:

High activity in Latin America today

Leading market position in Mexico, Venezuela and Argentina
