CORK BEARA ASSOCIATION

WELCOME.Beara Arts Festival 2019 features visual arts projects by two local artists; Mary Sullivan and the late John Eagle.Mary Sullivan is a graduate of DIT Dublin School of Creative Arts, Sherkin Island, where she was awarded a first-class honours BA in Visual Art. In 2018, she was selected to participate in the RDS Visual Arts Awards Exhibition, where she was awarded the acclaimed Taylor Art Award for her installation and video sculpture At Home, At War.Beara Arts Festival is delighted to have commissioned a new work from Mary; Breathe, an immersive visual and sound installation in an underground tunnel at Lonehort Battery on Bere Island.John Eagle, who passed away in December 2018, had a long association with Beara Arts Festival. Although best known as a photographer – he documented all the lighthouses around the Irish coast – he was also a gifted painter, specialising in landscapes and seascapes inspired by the hills and harbours of the Beara peninsula. We are delighted to commemorate John with an exhibition of his works in oils at Beara Coast Hotel.The festival will also feature a musical performance by the Vespertine Quintet & Adrian Crowley at the Sarah Walker Gallery, and a series of workshops and talks at Beara Coast Hotel; Castletownbere Library; Reentrisk, Allihies; and Lonehort Battery, Bere Island.We gratefully acknowledge the support of Cork County Council Arts Office, particularly Ian McDonagh; the 2019 Cork County Council West Cork Municipal District Creative Communities Scheme; and the Cork Beara Association.
