4th grade Trips to a ParkLaney’s class went to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore where they learned about:
● Dune ecosystems● Great Lakes shipping history,● The U.S. Life-Saving Service
Laney’s class practiced rescuesusing Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. In the old days, they would connect a rope to a projectile that was fired from the Lyle gun out to a ship grounded near the shore. Then they would connect a breeches buoy and reel it out to the ship. Then, the person in trouble would get in the breeches buoy and rescuers would reel it back in. That’s how they saved people.
Teacher-Ranger-Teacher
TRT is the centerpiece of the NPS Teacher Corps. TRT provides extended professional development opportunity for educators from K-12 schools to learn about the resources and educational materials available through the NPS.
