Dr. Darren Leong graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 2005. He joined Changi Sports Medicine Centre (CSMC) in 2009, and obtained his Masters in Sports Medicine from the University of Bath in 2013. Dr. Darren oversees CSMC’s Weight Management Program, and serves as Secretary in the Singapore Association for the Study of Obesity. In the local sporting scene, he serves as council member in the Singapore Bowling Federation, and doctor for the Singapore Sailing Federation and Special Olympics Singapore. Ever eager to serve as Singapore’s team doctor, Darren was the Chief Medical Officer for Team Singapore at the Rio 2016 Olympics. His current research projects include injury surveillance and prevention in elite athletes.

Prof. Norbert Bachl is a professor at the Department of Sports and Exercise Physiology in the Centre for Sports Science and University Sports of the University of Vienna. Prof. Dr. Bachl also serves as Director of the Austrian Institute for Sport Medicine, Vice President of FIMS and Honorary President of EFSMA. In addition to this, he is a member of the Medical Commission of IOC, EOC, ÖOC and of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Prof Dr. Bachl acts as the Head of the Medical Commission of the UCI.

Prof. Paul Gastin Speaker

Prof. Paul Gastin is Professor and Head of Sports and Exercise Science at La Trobe University (Australia). Paul’s teaching and research focuses on innovation in sport science and coaching to enhance the performance of people and organisations across the sport participation spectrum. His work is multidisciplinary and incorporates athlete monitoring, performance management and sport system development. Focus areas include assessment methods to quantify load and athlete/soldier responses to training and competition. In addition to his work in academia, Paul has worked in Olympic/Paralympic and professional sport in Australia and overseas holding senior positions at the Victorian Institute of Sport, the UK Sports Institute and UK Sport. He is an Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) Fellow and an accredited level 2 Sport Scientist and High Performance Manager.

Huma Kathiwala Expert Committee

Huma Kathiwala is a Principal Physiotherapist at the Singapore Sports Medicine Center.  Having attained her Master of Manual Therapy from the University of Western Australia, she has worked with the Singapore Sailing, Swimming , Silat, Athletics, Shooting , Bowling teams and was an integral part of Singapore Sports Institute & TEAM Singapore from 2006 - 2013. Prior to this she was a Consultant Physiotherapist to the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, The All India Lawn Tennis Association, The Maharashtra State Karate Do Federation and the Air India Womens Hockey Team. Huma emphasises on Injury Prevention and couples this with holistic evidence based approach towards exercise and manual therapy.

Prof. Gulshan Khanna Speaker

Prof. Gulshan Khanna is Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad. He is presently working as the Project Director at the Indian Institute of Sports Science and Research. He was a Senior Scientific Officer at the National Institute of Sports Patiala, Sports Authority of India. He has also worked as Professor at the University of Science, Malaysia. He is a Visiting Professor (Sports Science) at the Tsukuba University, Japan, and UPSI Malaysia. He is a member of the Olympic Task force 2020, 2024 and 2028 constituted by the Prime Minister of India. He is a past President of Asian Council of Exercise & Sports Science. He is the Vice President of BRICS Council of Exercise and Sports Science.

Dr. Ivy Lim is the first locally trained female sports physician and a qualified family physician. Her clinical interests include sports injuries, pre-participation screening, sports safety, exercise in women and the role of physical activity in chronic disease management. She is the Public Outreach Director for EIMS, and co-edited the book “Exercise is Medicine Singapore Exercise Prescription Guide”. She also co-authored a chapter in the book “Boys to Men: a complete guide for National Servicemen”. Dr Lim is currently president of the Sports Medicine Association of Singapore, medical delegate for Asian Fencing Confederation, and is in the National Sports Safety Committee. She is also actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education in various institutions.

Hyungyu Ko Speaker

Hyungyu Ko is the founder and CEO of LogonU. Established in 2015, Ko’s Start-Up is successfully focusing on collecting and analyzing data from wearable health sensors, using biometric information of users. With his graduation of Magna Cum Laude in Electronic Engineering and several honors, such as the Award of the Vice Minister of Science and Technology in 2013, Hyungyu Ko has proven to be a important member in the innovation industry. His research interests further include topics of Bionic Interface, Embedded Devices and Wireless Communication.

Rami Alhamad Speaker

Rami Alhamad is the founder of Push, Rami’s true passion lie at the intersection of sport and technology. Motivated by his own experiences as an athlete and witnessing the potential that technology can unlock in sport and athletes at all levels, Rami set out on his journey to launch Push in 2013 and hasn’t looked back since. Push’s products are now in active use by over 38 pro teams across all major sports as well as in training facilities that are busy developing tomorrow’s elite athletes. Rami has a degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a Master’s degree in Engineering Systems and Computing from the University of Guelph. He has played rugby competitively and you can find him in the gym or running on the streets of Toronto.

Christian Grosser joined Messe Düsseldorf GmbH in 2008. His first responsibility was for the interpack – the world’s leading trade show for processing and packaging. During this time, he worked abroad for the packaging portfolio in India and China. In late 2015, he was appointed as Deputy Director for MEDICA & COMPAMED – the world’s leading trade shows for healthcare and medical technologies.

Dr. Kelvin Chew Speaker

Dr. Kelvin Chew is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. He has a Masters in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science from University of New South Wales, Australia. Then, he completed his sports medicine fellowship at the Stanford University Medical Centre, U.S.A. He is the Medical Director and Senior Consultant Sports Physician at Changi Sports Medicine Centre, and Senior Consultant at Singapore Sports Medicine Centre. He has completed many research publications in musculoskeletal diagnostics, clinical conditions and disease management. He is a Duke-NUS supervisor for medical students and Adjunct Associate Professor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He volunteers for Special Olympics Singapore as an ex-co member and chairman of the Healthy Athletes Programme. He is the Chief Medical Officer for FORMULA 1™ Singapore Grand Prix since 2008 and the Chairman of the Singapore Motorsport Association Medical Commission.

Dr. Lim Ang Tee is the Director of Research for Exercise is Medicine, Singapore. He graduated in 2003 from the National University of Singapore. He obtained his Master of Sports Medicine in 2009 and Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) in 2012 and is dually accredited as a sports medicine physician by the Singapore Specialist Accreditation Board, and as a family physician by the Singapore Family Physician Board. He was the Chief Medical Officer for the World University Floorball Championships in 2014 and on the medical team for the SEA Games and the ASEAN Paragames in 2015. Dr Lim was the Chief Team Physician for Singapore in the Rio de Janeiro Summer Paralympics and in 2017 he served as a team physician for Singapore at the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He also has a special interest in the musculoskeletal injuries of musicians and performing artists.

Dr. Ben Tan graduated in 1991 with a medical degree from the National University of Singapore and obtained his Masters in Sports Medicine in 1997 from the Australian Institute of Sport. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (FAMS) and American College of Sports Medicine (FACSM). Dr Tan is presently Chief of Sports Medicine at Changi General Hospital. Dr Tan is also the Chairman of the Exercise is Medicine (EIM) Singapore and EIM Asia; Co-Chairman of the National Sports Safety Committee and Past President of the Sports Medicine Association of Singapore; Dr Tan won an Asian Games Gold and four consecutive SEA Games Golds, and represented Singapore at the 1996 Olympics in sailing.

Christian Stammel is founder and CEO of WT Wearable Technologies Group and Navispace AG. Born in 1969, he successfully enables innovation and cooperation in the Internet of Things and wearables sector. Christian had already founded his first IT company during his university years, which went public in 2000. He is one of the digital pioneers with a track record of over 20 years in IoT and has created some world´s firsts including an ECG shirt in 2002. He advises some of the biggest tech companies and organizes with his teams important networking platforms in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Dr. Roland Sigrist Speaker

Dr. Roland Sigrist is the Director of CYBATHLON at ETH Zurich. He studied Human Movement Sciences and was trained as a physical education teacher at ETH Zurich. From 2009 to 2014, he successfully completed his PhD studies focusing on complex motor learning with augmented feedback at the Sensory-Motor Systems Lab of Professor Robert Riener, the initiator of CYBATHLON, a competition for people with physical disabilities using latest assistive technologies, including robotic technologies.After finishing his studies, he took over the responsibility for the development and organization of the races of the first CYBATHLON (2016) as the Competition Director. Since 2017, he’s leading the CYBATHLON project at ETH Zurich.

Prof. James S. Skinner Speaker

Prof. James S. Skinner, Ph.D., FACSM is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Kinesiology, Indiana University. He is a former President of the American College of Sports Medicine, Chair, International Advisory Council for Exercise is Medicine, Vice President, International Council on Sport Sciences and Physical Education, and Chair, Medical Advisory Committee of the YMCA of the USA. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel for the American Council on Exercise and their Senior Advisor on Exercise Science. He was one of the five principal investigators of the HERITAGE Family Study, a large multi-center investigation of the role that genetic factors play in the response to training of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. He received the 2014 Honor Award from the American College of Sports Medicine, the highest award in his field.

Dr. Ng Chung Sien Speaker

Dr. Ng Chung Sien obtained his Masters of Sports Medicine from the University of Queensland Australia in 2012. Dr. Ng currently practices sports medicine in Changi Sports Medicine Centre and Singapore Sports Medicine Centre. He served as team physician for Singapore during the 2014 ASEAN Games in Incheon, South Korea, and the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar. He has served as Medical Director for numerous international sporting events. He is the Deputy Chairman of Football Workgroups at the Football Association of Singapore Medical Committee. He is also the men and women’s rugby team physician for Singapore Rugby Union. He is the Training and Education Director for Exercise is Medicine Singapore (EIMS). He has been certified by the American College of Sports Medicine for (1)Clinical Exercise Specialist, (2)Exercise is Medicine Credential Level 3 and (3)Physical Activity in Public Health Specialist. He has presented EIMS research papers in numerous international conferences.

Dr. Milind Sabnis Speaker

Dr. Milind Sabnis is the Director of the Healthcare Practice at Frost & Sullivan, Asia Pacific. He has over a decade of consulting experience engaging global clients.  He has advised top pharmaceutical companies, hospital groups, and ministries on market entry strategies, product lifecycle management, and marketing strategies. While with the World Health Organization, he developed and successfully implemented various strategies to stop Polio transmission in one of the 3 high risk regions in the world. He holds a Master in Business Administration from the University of Cambridge, United   Kingdom,   a Doctor of Medicine specializing in Preventive Medicine from the University of  Mumbai, a  Bachelor  of  Medicine  and  Bachelor  of  Surgery from the University of Mumbai.

Dr. John Ralston Speaker

Dr. John Ralston is a pioneer in the development of wearable devices for injury risk reduction. He has collaborated with research teams studying concussions in youth, collegiate, and professional athletics, with the US Armed forces, and with leading consumer electronics and medical device manufacturers. As Founder and CEO at Silicon-Valley-based Protxx, Inc., he is spearheading commercialization of the first dual-function wearable devices that can monitor the onset and progression of both neurological and orthopedic changes triggered by athletic impact exposure. John earned B.Sc. degrees in Physics and in Electrical Engineering from M.I.T., a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, and the MSc degree in Management of Technology from the MIT Sloan School of Business.

The Exercise is Medicine Allied Health & Fitness Professionals (AHP) Course (30 & 31 August) The course aims to provide allied health and fitness professionals with a comprehensive framework to enable them to work closely with the medical community to deliver supervised exercise programs to clinical populations.

The benefits to participants include:

• The competency to safely supervise exercise that has been prescribed for the client by his or her doctor.
