WELCOMING ALL AND FORMING DISCIPLES We are a family united in our Catholic Faith
that welcomes all God’s children forming disciples by continuing Christ’s mission of Love, Service, and Education.
Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head." And to another he said, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father." But he answered him, "Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." - Lk 9:58-60

The Lord Needs Your Company!!! Your commitment to fill the following hours (even on a temporary basis) would be greatly appreciated, in order to relieve the few who have kept these hours covered at great sacrifice. Please call the coordinator if you can help with day or night time hours.
Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time "No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God." What have we left behind? What have we traded in to become faithful followers of Christ? The an-swer is different for all of us. Some of us can tell the tale of a dramatic conversion story, leaving be-hind a life of blatantly selfish indulgence or obviously sinful behavior in order to embrace the call of Jesus. Others of us have been Christians since the day of our baptism as infants and have always
walked the path of belief, but perhaps can trace certain moments when we embraced a deeper commitment and resolved to aban-don particular behaviors, relationships, or worldly priorities that were in conflict with our faith. Whatever the case, Jesus instructs us today not to look to "what was left behind." Instead, we are called to keep our focus on what lies ahead, namely, life in Christ and the ultimate hope of union with him in heaven. Keeping this focus can be quite a challenge. So often, it's tempting to think that the grass is greener somewhere else. As Christians, we can fall into the trap of imagining that it might feel better to be ... something else. Perhaps, seeing others around us whose lives are not shaped by their faith, we might think they have it easier than we do. Or perhaps we get lost in reminiscence about the way things were in the good old days, and thus get distracted from the mission that stands in front of us toretrouvailleday. But thoughts like these are not fit for our new life as disciples of Christ. As St. Paul says in today's epistle, "For freedom Christ set us free." May we embrace the gift of this true freedom and follow Christ with-out looking back.

This year’s Superintendent Scholarship at Holy Cross Cath-olic Academy was given to two seniors instead of one—both
deserving of the recognition. Ben Fullerton, valedictorian of the Class of 2016, has been accepted and will attend Columbia University. Jose Villafuerte, salu-tatorian, will be attending Texas Tech. Both young men have been extremely active in reinventing the speech and debate team. Congratulations!

The Peter’s Pence Collection is tak-en up worldwide to support our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, in-cluding victims of war, oppression, and nat-ural disasters. In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, the collection is an opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters. Please be generous in today’s collection.
