2. INTRODUCTIONScaling and Root planing are effective methods in the treatment of periodontal diseases.(1)Different local antimicrobial and anti inflammatory adjuncts have been shown to improve outcomes of SRP. 2 3. INTRODUCTION Application of Hyaluronan ( Hyaluronic Acid),a non sulfatedglycosaminoglycan and a major component in extracellular matrix.(2) In Human Periodontal ligament cells, fibroblasts growth factor 2 regulatesproduction of HA.(3)3 4. INTRODUCTION In vitro studies ,application of HA showed positive effects on fibroblasts, bone regeneration and wound healing.(4) HA has shown positive effect on the reduction of plaque and sulcusbleeding index of patients with plaque induced gingivitis.(5)4 5. RELATED STUDIES Jentsch et al(6) 50 subjects with plaque-induced gingivitis used a placebo gel twice daily (PI, PBI) and crevicular fluid variables (peroxidase, lysozyme) were determined at baseline and after 4, 7, 14 and 21 days, respectively. RESULTS The placebo group showed significant improvement in the study area .The crevicular fluid variables were significantly improved in the centre of the studiedinflammation area in the placebo group. 5 6. MATERIALS AND METHODS 42 volunteers 18 males 24 females Age- 41-72 years6 7. CRITERIA INCLUSION CRITERIA Individuals with moderate or severe chronic periodontitis With Probing Depth >5mm With minimum of 20 teeth. Plaque index previous 6 months. On periodontal treatment. With diabetes mellitus. Smoking Pregnancy Allergy to ingredients 8 9. EXAMINATION Probing Depth CAL. BOP Plaque index9 10. GCF COLLECTION Samples taken from deepest sites in both premolar and molar regions. 4 samples-> per volunteer. Paper strips placed at enterance of pocket -> 20 seconds. Endodontic paper points inserted into pocket until resistance is felt -> left for 30 seconds. Stored at -20 .C10 11. THERAPY Full mouth SRP . Gel0.8 % HA was introduced into pocket. Gel0.2 % HA onto gingival margin twice daily during 14 days.11 12. MICROBIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS Neutrophil elastase activity was determined with a microplate assay using Nmethoxysuccinyl Ala-Pro-pNA , incubation at 37 .c for 30 minutes and MPO activity. DNA was extracted from plaque samples , detection of species by PCR 1.Aggregatibacter Actinomycetemcomitans 2.Porphyromonas Gingivalis 3.Tannerella Forsythia 4.Treponema Denticola 5.Prevotella Intermedia 6.Campylobacter Rectus12 13.
