The focus of the journal is American religions and Western religious traditions. The journal is published by the Kripke Center at Creighton University to facilitate the exploration of religion and its role in society. It publish peer-reviewed research for an international audience. It is open access to ensure the widest distribution and access to its publications. The journal is edited Ronald A. Simkins, the director of the Kripke Center; the editorial board consists of the many Faculty Associates of the center.
