Summertime is God’s time.

“Summertime and the living is easy” are the

first words in the opera Porgy and Bess.

DuBose Heyward and Ira Gershwin

composed the lyrics which George

Gershwin set to music. The song carries the

style and feeling of an old Negro spiritual

which was exactly the intent of both

Heywood and Gershwin.

Summer time is a beautiful time of year. The

weather is normally clear with cool

mornings and hot afternoons. With the

advent of modern air conditioning, the high

temperatures are born with more grace

than might have been the case in the 1934

when the lyrics and music first came to life.

Summertime means different things to

different people. For many of us

summertime is the time for relaxation,

recreation, and outdoor adventure. We go

camping; take a week or more at the

beach; enjoy the splendor of high mountain

lakes; perhaps see the vistas in Glacier

National Park, Yellowstone, or Crater Lake.

We may enjoy just being home. In summer,

we can take time to recognize the natural

beauty the Creator has so bountifully

provided here and elsewhere.

Contrary to the lyrics of the song,

summertime can be a time of hard work. If

you are a farmer or rancher there are crops

to be harvested, animals to be tended,

machinery to keep running, repaired and

sent back out into the fields. Most of the

irrigating is probably done by now. Pipe is

put away. Pumps are checked out and

then stored. Once the fields are cleared of

crops and the hay brought in and stored,

the cycle begins again with plowing,

harrowing and the planting of winter wheat

or ground cover. If you work in construction,

crews spread asphalt in the heat, buildings

are built, and projects are welded. In

summer, we put in the effort needed to

help nature provide the abundance God

wants us to enjoy.

Summertime can be a harrowing

experience especially for those charged

with controlling fires. Often enough we find

ten or more wildfires burning here in the

northwest. The firefighters I know work long

hours, sometimes double shifts for 14 days or

more. Men and women march out together

to create fire breaks with their hoes and

axes. Yes, the money is good but it comes

at a price of mortal danger, hard work and

much sweat. Firefighters in our cities and

forests guard lives and property. In summer,

we cooperate with the Divine to take care

of the resources God has given.

Summertime has brought unrest and even

riots into our nations past experience. We

have learned to take the time needed to

slow down our responses to others

especially when words or actions appear to

contradict our expectations. We can

respond with forgiveness, compassion, and

love. We can listen deeply to protests (Continued on page 2)

whether by individuals or groups. We can take then base

our actions on that understanding. In summer, we can

avoid violence and find peaceful solutions to human

concerns.

Summertime displays the varieties of our human

experience. Each of us has a unique perspective on life.

Each of us holds our own values and beliefs. Each of us

walks on a unique spiritual path. Thus, we see the activities

of summertime from a variety of perspectives. In summer,

we can accept and bless our fellow men and women.

Summertime is the season to live the truth stated by the

Psalmist: “Only goodness and kindness shall follow me all

the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

forever.”

Enjoy this precious summer. Listen, learn, love.

GRATITUDE IS A CELEBRATION

Science of Mind Magazine, May, 2016

One morning as I awakened before the sun’s first rays, my mind

began ruminating over something I forgot to do the day before

and things that needed my attention that day. Observing

myself, I found that instead of the expansiveness of greeting the

day, I was contracting. The dawning of the sun always reminds

me that I am a choice; a new beginning is at hand. How do I

want to start the day, what do I want to affirm? By shifting my

thoughts to gratitude, I found myself cherishing the presence of

abundance in that moment.

Gratitude is a celebration! At times, it is a beautiful practice that

we intentionally do. Other times, there are these magical

moments where it arrives like a refreshing breeze permeating our

being with the recognition of plenitude. It is witnessing life with

acceptance and joy.

Practicing thankfulness is also an act of faith. It is being grateful

for the good weather as well as the storms. This is the willingness

to accept our challenging situations, to see them as our growing

edge and the means for our evolution. They are the gateways

that move us in a new directions to our better good.

As we open our hear to the appreciation of life, we enter into

life’s appreciation for us. It’s this glorious sharing of love where

the sense of separation falls away. Gratitude is an act of healing.

"DON'T BE FEARFUL, JUST BE CAREFUL”

I often share a personal quote with others in special moments when I perceive it to be

appropriate. Some may remember me saying "Don't be fearful, just be careful.” On

occasion, I have been asked, "What's the difference? Doesn't the feeling that we need

to be 'Careful' come from fear? Fearful of something negative to happen in our life? So,

we BETTER be careful!?

Well, I personally, don't perceive Care and Fear as necessary companions. I do agree

that, if we are fearful, full of fear, a certain type of energy seems to occur that influences

and attracts potential negative experiences in our life. While on the other hand, to be

'Careful', to be full of Care, to take Care, seems for me to be a state of Compassionate,

Spirit-filled Awareness and expectation which works with the Positive energy of the Great

Law of Attraction! AND, Caring, even the Intention to Care, is willingness to share Loving-

kindness for everything in our corner of the World. Thus, both, Fear and Care sets in

motion energy that impacts our life, but Each have different qualities of using Energy for

Positive or Negative experiences in our Human Journeys through what we call 'Our Life'.

So, I will continue to send my intentions of Caring for ALL in my corner of the World and

try to Not to be Fearful, but I will continue to be Careful, full of Care intending to contrib-

ute the type of Energy that cooperates with Spirit and my Human companions to create

a World that works for Everyone!

Blessings always, all ways Rev. Don

HUMAN TRANSFORMATION

Human experience on Earth is a series of transformations. We are here to expand our

consciousness by expressing ourselves fully and to the highest potential of our Soul.

How far with this we wish to go is entirely up to us. No one is forcing us to grow, shift, or

ascend. It is all merely about the desire and ability to be us without any holding back

or being ashamed of our human imperfections.

There will always be something to heal, something to transform, there will always be

another wave, another lesson, another eclipse, a retrograde, or another storm to

move into the eye of!

If we are living our Spiritual life based on what lessons we have left to learn until we get

this and that, we will be learning them for a very long time and with that attitude, we

will never really be ready simply because we refuse to perceive that we are, and have

always been capable of choosing to be ready, willing and able to freely and fully

commune with Our father/Mother.

How about allowing the possibility that life is a series of lessons designed by our Divine

Indwelling Christ-Self and what we get and when is entirely up to our freewill choice

and we alone determine our design on our individual and unique path.

The entire universe rearranges itself to accommodate our perception of reality. It

becomes misperceived miscreation if it is not aligned with Our Father’s Truth and if we

are willing to give it to Holy Spirit, we can be assured it will come into actual Spiritual

alignment as well as all that we co-create in Truth.

This is the only way we can truly learn, ad that is through our own experience. But it is

the awareness in every moment, along with the experience of our human energy

patterns that we have to be willing to discern in order to be who we are as fully and

completely as is possible, with complete self-observation as well as fully acceptance of

all our flaws all our human patterns and all our ego value laden judgements and

comparisons. This is how we learn to be ourselves and be willing to be transparent all

the way, and be ever willing to keep our cup empty in every moment so we remain in

the learning modality.

When we own the right to acceptance of our human identity and Forgiveness of all

our disowned selves, and then finally ourselves alone for allowing all of our human

perfidies, that is when our Heart-Mind, Soul and Personality achieves the capability of

letting go and letting God create miracles in every moment.

PRACTICING THE PRESENCE: HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR FILTERS LATELY?

One quote from the Bible synthesizes and distills my understanding of the Science of Mind: “Do not

be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you

may discern what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2) It is by the renewal of our

minds we discover new ideas. These new ideas can then translate into new conditions in our lives.

We can then look and decide if that is the way we want to go.

But what is even in back of the world of ideas is the world of beliefs. These beliefs underlie the ideas

that come to us. And it is difficult to actually step back and see what these beliefs are. They are so

interwoven into our lives and are sometimes so subtle it is hard to be objective about them.

I will label these beliefs as filters for purposes of discussion. People need to have filters. The purpose

of these filters is to sift through all of the sensory experiences of the world and then put it into a pack-

age that will make sense to us. We are probably unaware they even exist. Some filters are put in

place by our family upbringing. Families think and react in certain ways and they have rules. We

can grow up still believing these rules are the laws of the universe. In actuality, they are simply a set

of beliefs one person had at one specific time. We might take a look at some of these long held

“truths” and realize we can be free of their tyranny if we are clear enough with ourselves.

Sometimes we will completely block out certain pieces of information like a horse wearing blinders.

The blinders are worn on the outside of their eyes so they don’t see something unusual and get

spooked and bolt. Sometimes we wear blinders to keep us from looking around too much to feel

safer by reducing our field of vision.

Another filter we all have is a national filter. We all grow up in a certain country. In that country

things are done a certain way. We don’t even question it. We assume everyone does it that certain

way. I recently had an opportunity to travel in Scandinavia. There I came face to face with the fact

there are other ways of living that work just fine for them. One example is in the entire month we

were there nobody shot anyone else. In fact the U.S. was rarely mentioned in their news media for

any story. Their history, geography and culture have all melded to make the country they live in

today. Stepping outside of our usual circle, we can look out and see perhaps there are other global

stories more important than our own. So our national filter is one we can try to look at objectively.

Personal filters are those we have accumulated over a lifetime of experiences. We have certain

beliefs drawn from “lessons” learned in sometimes painful ways. These beliefs are so personal as to

be invisible to our thinking mind. We make assumptions based on the beliefs we think are truth. But,

many times these beliefs are simply one way we had of responding to experience. Would it be possi-

ble to heal and release some of our most deeply held “stories” we have told ourselves?

So this is what I mean when I say “Have you checked your filters?” Just as we clean the filters in our

heating systems yearly, we also need to examine the filters of our beliefs. We all need filters to keep

from being overwhelmed by the world. But, try to keep them in line with the principles of the

universe and they will work for you instead of against you. Test them to see if they are in line with the

attributes of God which are: Abundance, Balance, Beauty, Freedom, Harmony, Joy, Love, Order,

Peace, Unity, Wholeness, and Wisdom. If you think on these things, you will have all of the power of

the Universe working to fulfill your dreams.

And think about this: What are the choices we could make in our lives might be truly unique to us?

Many Blessings,

Kathy Prather

AUGUST SPIRITUAL MIND TREATMENT

There are many facts making up our world but there is Only ONE TRUTH! The Truth

about Life is the Infinite Love of God within and for all Creation. Forever Present in ALL.

It is GOD-LOVE that moves through GOD-MIND to become manifest in all form. THIS is

the ineffable Secret of OUR purpose for being in Human Expressions on this planet.

This makes us Pure SPIRIT-LOVE, designed and desired as GOD in form. Thus, we need

not strive or strain to obtain immortality or fear punishment or seek rewards for our

actions as Being Human.

The Kingdom of Heaven awaits us all, in every moment. It awaits the Wise, the Foolish,

the Perceived Saint, and the Sinner, all temporary illusions of Reality as we clothe our

TRUE Selves in different roles in this moment of incarnation. In our True Self moments,

we see past the illusions of Ego and embrace the Majesty, the Grandeur, and the

Gratitude for the Loving-kindness in our glad, thankful Hearts.

Thus, we let this God-Love be in all that we see. We know we are contributing to a

world that works for everyone. We are One in and as, God-Love.

And so it is.

Let all that you do be done with love. 1 Corinthians 16:14
