other resident amenit ies.
The dual tower + podium + courtyard massing al lows
for both the optimum amount of natural l ight to reach
the units and extensive community spaces and l ive/

The eroding f igure-ground pattern of the c ity of Toledo
has left many gaping holes in i ts urban fabric. This
urban park proposal works to f i l l one of the holes with
a community center focused on connection.
The park derives i ts form from extending the surrounding
street gr ids into the interst it ia l space to create a pattern
of interlocking “f ingers.” The f ingers incorporate
exist ing s ignif icant cultural bui ldings as wel l as new
community, commercial , and civ ic constructions.

The famil iar gr id of NYC breaks down in lower Manhattan,
result ing is a loss of spatial def init ion and orientation
for pedestr ians. The s ite, Edgar Plaza, is an awkward
space that interrupts a major street of Greenwich
St. This k iosk proposal offers a gateway that v isual ly
reconnects the north and south ends of Greenwich St.
Based on the changing needs of pedestr ians throughout
the day, the kiosk’s program transforms from a
commuter-oriented newsstand and wireless hotspot
during the day to a community project ion screen and
tourist information hub at night.

Concrete acts as frame for people-watching using the city as a backdrop.
View down Greenwich St. is unobstructed by thin program elements.
Kiosk highlights sharp slope of site by remaining level.
Neighboring subway entrances and exits allow easy access for commuters.

The work explores individual and group inhabitat ion,
agency over materials , and environmental interact ion
using f ict ional characters and scenarios.
The players are abstract ions from several of my works
of or iginal f ict ion. Removed from their or iginal l i terary
context, they become three archetypal characters with
dist inct spatial att itudes.
After establ ishing the characters in their current
s ituation, the work explores their roles and engagement
with creating a new situation for themselves by way of
a v isual narrat ive.
The imagined world of the f ict ion inspires architecture.
Architecture expands f ict ion to i ts v isual and spatial
l imits.
