increase the value of our chapter to all our members. THAT MEANS YOU!! I joined ASHRAE over 20 years ago, and didn’t become engaged until 5 years ago – and that was my loss. The more I’ve participated, the more I’ve gained in familiarity with the Society, local industry, and enhanced industry relationships. I want to help everyone who is a member get more out of the chapter. This year I have identified three key elements I intend to focus on:• IncreasedVolunteerism– Can

you help support a committee, or perhaps lead one? Every hour of assistance is appreciated. Help shape the chapter to meet your needs by participating! How can our chapter support you more? Tell us! Come and join our meetings, participate in a committee, lead a committee, maybe join a corresponding technical committee.

KEN’S BLOG Hello Orange Empire chapter…welcome back!! Our first meeting after the summer break is right around the corner, and we hope to see everyone there. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you as President of our chapter this year. While there have been no chapter meetings since the Board confirmation in May, we have had board of governor meetings including our various committee chairs, with one attended by members of our Student Chapter operating out of Cal State Long Beach. These meetings are in place to identify our programs for the year, work on fundraising events such as the Golf Tournament, and sets our budget to ensure that we are good stewards of the Chapter affairs. This year my greatest goal is to

•BetterInformationSharing – I think that we can do a better job of making our chapter aware of when papers and award submissions are due – The Society site is huge, and from discussions I’ve had with some very smart people, it can be very daunting to identify award opportunities and submitting for them. Orange Empire is going to start a new committee driving this locally. Right now it will be ad-hoc with a number of different people pitching in to build the new web page. The goal is to summarize what it is you need to do in order to get professional recognition for yourself and/or your employer. •ContinuedSupportofourStudentChapter

at CSULB – Two years ago Chapter members (Predominantly from P2S – thank you Kent!) reached out to CSULB to reinvigorate the HVAC program there, and we now have a functioning chapter. Do you want to mentor Chapter members? Would your company find value in supporting a senior project? You can share your experience and knowledge of the industry to help future HVAC engineers grow today.

I’ve gotten far more out of the Society and chapter than I’ve put into them. I hope that everyone in our chapter can say the same in the coming months and years. Thanks for your ear. Ken Golovko

support about the application of our products to mechanical engineers, design/build contractors, architects, inspectors, and our sales staff.A. Hold technical seminarsB. Respond to questionsC. Submittal process

1. provide technical support to our sales staff in putting submittals together when needed

2. provide technical support to the engineers in reviewing the submittals when needed

D. Budget pricing of equipment when requested

II. PRODUCT SUPPORT: Provide technical information about our products to mechanical engineers, architects, inspectors, and owners.A. Literature and computer software updatesB. Engineering tools provided by manufacturers’ (duct

designer, templates, engineering books, etc.)C. Equipment demonstrations and displaysD. Coordinating manufacturers’ visits with local engineers

and factories and/or job sites.

III. BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS: Create comfortable working relationships with mechanical engineers, architects, design/build contractors, and our sales staff.A. Frequent visitsB. B. Attend manufacturer’s training seminars on their products (All located out of state)

C. Attend engineering seminars or classes that pertain to our products

D. Visit with the manufacturer’s technical support staff about different applications of products.

E. Share information with other engineering staff

Your Board of Governors has once again authorized the offering of a Season Pass to our meetings for 2016-2017. There is only one catch. To maximize the savings, the pass must be purchased no later than October 31, 2017 (no credit for September meeting cost if purchased in October). You can even do it online!

The price is only $360.00! This includes all of our regular meetings at the Holiday Inn ($45-$50 each) as well as all of our special meetings throughout the year. This includes the December Holiday Meeting, our joint meetings with ASPE and the San Diego Chapter, as well as the Installation Dinner in May!

The cost of the latter four events is always higher than our regular meetings. That’s all nine meetings included with one season pass!

To get a Season Pass, simply indicate your intentions with your advanced reservations online or at check-in for the September 26th meeting while bringing your $360.00. One check…done… paid up for the ENTIRE YEAR!

Assuming you plan to attend all nine meetings, the Season Pass cost averages to less than $40 per meeting!

Thereafter, just register in advance online stating your meal choice and that you will “pay at the door”. Then, let Carlon Haywood know at the door that you’ve arrived the night of the meeting to receive your meal ticket.

But wait! There’s more! If you have an aversion to long term commit-ments, your pass is even transferable to a friend or colleague for an evening that you miss!
