Our Parish Mission: Christ calls our parish family to be a
beacon of hope in a rapidly changing community.
NEVER ALONE The local support group for parents, family, friends and community interested in drug and
alcohol addiction is now meeting here at St. Paul’s in our parish office conference room on Monday evenings at 6:00. This wonderful group has been providing encouragement as well as education and support to those in our area struggling with issues related especially to the abuse
of substances. If you have these issues in your family or know someone who does, come on Mondays to find a welcoming group of folks, many of whom have been there and/or are there!
TABLE OF HOPE Free Hot Meals are provided at First Methodist Church on West Street 5-6 pm Monday,
Wednesday & Friday. Everyone is welcome to come to share the meal and the fellowship. Some new volunteers are needed during the summer months. Our next parish day to serve is July 22nd. Please consider signing up as a family and sharing with your children the joy of
helping others.
COMMUNITY BREAD B ASKET Every week we continue to offer non-perishable foods, soaps and paper products for those in our community who need a little extra help to make ends meet. Our parish along with other
churches, businesses and groups in the community provide these items after the command of Christ to take care of one another. Bring anything you can to the offering baskets in the back of
church on Sunday and a volunteer will see they are delivered to the Bread Basket.
A NOTE FROM YOUR PASTOR While we all wonder where time flies so quickly, I note that this weekend marks my eleventh anniversary as pastor of St. Paul Parish. I came among you in July of 2005. Certainly I note with gratitude the love and affection so many have shared with me over these years I have been here as your pastor. In this time I hope you have benefited from some of my gifts and
ministry; I know you have had to put up with my sins and weaknesses. I hope and pray God, you and the Bishop will allow me to pastor your community for a few more years and keep in good enough health to do so well. For now at least we go on together amidst the joys and
sorrows of life toward the kingdom of God. God bless all of you and God bless St. Paul Parish. (Next weekend I will be away as most of my family will be gathering for our annual vacation
together at the beach. Fr. Tom Magary will be covering all the Sunday masses.)
West Virginia Flood Disaster Collection
Last Sunday’s special collection to assist our fellow West Virginia citizens who are coping with the disastrous floods of
two weeks ago was nothing sort of EXTRAORDINARY. Nearly $3000 dollars was contributed to Catholic Charities West
Virginia to assist in the long-term relief. Further contributions can still be made in this week’s regular collection by marking an envelope “Flood Relief.” You can
find more information on flood relief efforts at: http://www.catholiccharitieswv.org/ May God give strength and perseverance to those effected by the floods and by those who have gone to assist in
the recovery.

“NEVER TOO YOUNG TO HELP WITH FLOOD RELIEF”
Students of St. Paul School in Weirton with help from younger brothers and sisters (and moms) sold ice cold lemonade at Central Park in Wellsburg over Fourth of July Weekend to raise funds for West Virginia Flood Relief. These young volunteers raised $355.50 for Catholic Charities West Virginia’s long-term help in areas hit by the June flooding. They were especially proud that they sold more lemonade than their dad sold flavored snow cones and that the commercial lemonade salesman in park came and bought lemonade from their stand.
These enterprising lemonade salespersons included St. Paul School students: Avery Morris, Santino Sperlazza, and Madison Owens with help from Liam Morris, Amelia Sperlazza, Maggie Diserio, Madyson Kostur, Parker McMahon, Maria Diserio and Angelo Paton. Supervising moms were Ashley Sperlazza and Marcie Morris.
Catholic Charities West Virginia is not a first responder, but is active in long term recovery. We work with people throughout the state in response to widespread and personal emergency and disaster situations. Catholic Charities WV is a member of the State VOAD (Voluntary Organiza-tions Active in Disasters), and participates in the Long Term Recovery Committees.
This week: Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Deuteronomy 30:10-14 Colossians 1:15-20 Luke 10:25-37
Background: One of Jesus most beloved parables poignantly illustrates just what
Jesus’ means by “love your neighbor as yourself.” It breaks down all barriers of
prejudice and segregation; it allows no excuses of lack of time or money; it forbids
holding back even on future developments.
Jesus final words to the “scholar of the law” cuts through any reason for not loving: “Go
and do likewise.
