About the Summer Institute Sponsors & FacultyThe Summer Institute is sponsored by the Center for Population Research in LGBT
Health (the LGBT Pop Center), housed at The Fenway Institute (TFI) of Fenway Health
in Boston and by the Department of Community Health Sciences at Boston University
School of Public Health (BUSPH). Our data resources education partner is the
Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), housed at the
University of Michigan.
The LGBT Pop Center develops and supports collaborative research and education programs to understand and improve the health of sexual and gender minorities.
The LGBT Pop Center coordinates a mentoring and training program, sponsors a data
archive in LGBT health in conjunction with ICPSR, and supports research collaborations
among a national faculty of participating scientists.
The LGBT Pop Center’s participating scientists are a diverse and interdisciplinary
community of scholars based in universities, research institutes and community
organizations across the United States. They study the spectrum of sexual and gender
minority populations from a variety of perspectives, including public health, medicine,
community health, nursing, sociology, intervention research, social work, psychology
and economics. Their research expertise includes the sexual transmission of HIV,
LGBT families and households, and demographic aspects of LGBT health, morbidity,
disability, and mortality.
The Summer Institute program is led by LGBT Pop Center Director, Dr. Judith Bradford.
The Data Analysis Course will be taught by an experienced member of the faculty of the
ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods, held annually at the University of
Michigan and sites across the country. Dr. Judith Bradford and Dr. Aimee Van Wagenen,
Program Manager of the Center, will lead the Cornerstone Seminar. Additional members
of the Center’s participating faculty will contribute guest lectures. For an up to date list
of the Center’s participating faculty and for more information about the Center,
