PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Linville weather was near perfect with afternoon tem-peratures reaching the high 80’s. The only rain showerswere at night and felt wonderful. The mountain laurelswere in full bloom with that classic mountain beauty.

Our new gathering at “The Camp” introduced six new-comers to Southern Seniors. The party was a great suc-cess as was the cocktail supper at Linville Ridge. Howcan you describe the seafood buffet at Eseeola Lodgeexcept to say fantastic!

Congratulations to Chuck Joye for winning the HamillTrophy and to Chip Landon for winning the GrandSeniors Championship.

Several members opted out of the Thursday Stablefordat Linville to take advantage of the opportunity to playGrandfather Golf & Country Club.

Mary Ann has been keeping up with the ladies sponsor-ship activity and so far this year, a total of seven ladieshave received awards.

We encourage each of our members to sponsor one oftheir friends as a new member so they can enjoy the golfand fellowship that Southern Seniors has to offer.

FROM THE SECRETARY

“Perfect weather and Donald Ross...what more can youwant?” That was member Steve Waterfill’s happy assess-ment of the 35th Hamill Trophy. As Bill said, and it bears

repeating, with plenty of sunshine, warm daytime temper-atures and abundant color, it was a spectacular week in theHigh Country.

In addition to tournament winners Chuck and Chip, TomMetzgar won the Stableford, helped by a hole-in-one! Itwas his fourth, a five hybrid shot on the 173-yard sixthhole.

This year the tournament ran four days with final matcheson Thursday, allowing everyone to head home ahead ofMemorial Day weekend. Sunday dinner at The Camp fea-tured bluegrass entertainment and our version of “DancingWith the Stars” featuring Mary Ann Jones and J.D. Kirby!

Non-golfing ladies enjoyed a delightful outing to the veryartsy Penland Gallery enhanced by scenic drives and con-versations with artisans and potters. Eseeola packed a deli-cious lunch-to-go for the group’s picnic.

A big thank you goes to the members and ladies who aresharing Southern Seniors with their friends. Another foursponsor awards were presented to wives at Linville. Don’tforget about the drawings we’ll have at Sea Island for free2012 tournament entries and spa-days. For every membersponsored, the sponsor and lady’s names will be entered inthe drawings!

Enclosed is the tournament announcement for TheColonial Challenge, a three-day event that is open toguests. Williamsburg is an extraordinary setting to enjoy Southern Seniors while learning about the founding of ournation. We hope you’ll come enjoy the spirit of it all!
