The meeting time is 7-9pm. The first half of the meeting this month will be a discussion on favorite or unique equipment and tools you have found to enhance your photography. OUR JULY PRESENTATION IS BY THE MEMBERS!

“LIGHTING TRIGGER Member Steve Yabek will give a short 15-minute presentation on the equipment and methods

used to get this fabulous shot.

Next, we’ll have "SHOW AND TELL” We invite any and all members to take turns showing their favorite piece of paraphernalia that helps them to create fantastic, unique, inspiring photographs. We do not want to focus on the main components of camera bodies, lenses, or point-and-shoot models. The focus will be on tripods, panorama attachments, filters, monopods, tripods, variable neutral density filters, grad-ed filters, color meters, lighting systems, etc. etc. We'd ask each person to explain what they

brought, how it works, and why it's special to them. Along those same lines, we are having a SUMMER SWAP MEET! Bring photography gear that you would like to sell or swap. Maybe it’s a duplicate. Maybe you’ve upgraded. Please only bring equipment that is in good, clean, and working condition! Be sure to label it with your name and asking price. It will be placed on tables in our meeting room for members and guests to peruse. People can barter/haggle during the mid-meeting break or at the end of the meeting. If you are looking for an item, make a small sign with your “ISO” (in search of) item(s) and hopefully someone can hook you up with what you’re looking for.

PHOTOGRAPHER CHALLENGES: THE CHALLENGE FOR JULY 2014 IS “NEW TECHNIQUES”

Encouraged by what we learned in Deb Sussex’s June presentation, we challenge you to create and submit images in which you have stepped out of your usual settings to create a unique photo. Be prepared to share with the audience that new angle, technique, filter, or setting that you had not used in past images. Paper submissions will no longer be accepted, only electronic submissions on Flickr. Direc-tions for uploading are on the Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/groups/durangophotographyclub Don't forget to put "July 2014 Challenge" as a photo subtitle in up to three photos. You may add as many of your photos to the Club's Flickr site as you'd like but only three will be displayed. At the meeting all photos entered as of 8pm on meeting night will be shown for comment and critique. You may be asked to give a short (90 seconds or less) description of each photo for the attendees’ edification. If you'd like to receive suggestions or critique on photos not meeting the topic of the month, you may upload them to the Club site for discussion. Time permitting, they may be shown for open comments after the Challenge photos have been shown. Please note: Monthly Chal-lenges are for members only. It is always nice to see what our members are shooting! Thanks to everyone who sends in entries. They definitely make the second half of our meet-ings much more fun and educational! If you have any questions or problems, e-mail Howard Rachlin at [email protected]

THE CHALLENGE FOR AUGUST 2014 WILL BE

“ESSENCE OF SUMMER” Show us through photography what summer means to you. May-be it's a backyard bbq, a campfire, swimming, tubing, rafting the river, connecting with Great Aunt Lucille at a family reunion, flowers along a high country lake, a June wed-ding. Show us YOUR summer best!

It’s time for the 2014 La Plata County Fair!

Even if you don’t have any other entries, we hope to see your photos entered in one of the many categories and levels in the 2014 La Plata County Fair! It's also the time of year to again request volunteers to help handle the photography section at the La Plata County Fair. The Durango Photography Club has total responsibility for managing this. We'd appreciate it if you could work for a four hour slot. If you can do more than one slot, that's great! I'm sure that this will be our biggest "show" yet! The Club NEEDS your help to keep this event going! Please thoughtfully consider your availability. It’s a lot of fun and you meet so many interest-ing people and often hear the stories behind the photos they submit! Most of the duty involves "Booth Sitting." What does this mean? Mingle, talk, socialize! Talk to people about the Club, photography or whatever. Ask them to vote for the "People's Choice" award and make sure they only enter one vote for each group (Children, Juniors and Adults). Show them the Fair booklet if they have questions about entry and category details. Make sure that nobody walks off with, or damages any of the photos. Enjoy a free meal and drink if you work at least four

hours (what an incentive!). Howard will be there every morning to "indoctrinate" the first shift people and each shift will indoctrinate the next. Let me know what day and times you can work at [email protected]. Respond quickly If you want to get the best slots :-) Here's the schedule for this year’s fair. Monday, August 4 - Setup of the booth - 1:00 pm. We need about six people for about two hours. For the rest of the days, we need two volunteers to "booth sit" at all times. Wednesday, August 6 - Check in of Entries, data entry and hanging of photos – 7:30am - 6:00pm. Thursday, August 7 - Judging - 9:00am - 1:00pm, Booth Sitting - 1:00pm - 8:00pm Friday, August 8 - Booth sitting - 9:00am - 8:00pm Saturday, August 9 - Booth sitting - 9:00pm - 6:30pm Sunday, August 10 - Booth sitting - 9:00pm - 2:00pm Returning photographs and tear down of the booth - 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Need about six people for this! Any questions or comments, please e-mail me ([email protected]) or call me at 970-375-7877. Thanks for your help, Howard Rachlin County Fair Photography Superintendent
