First Friday Holy Hour for Vocations Seminarians Matthew Collins (3rd Theology) and Jeremy Belk (2nd College) will be hosting a Eucharistic Holy Hour for the intention of an increase in religious vocations to the Arch-diocese of Hartford. Please join us on Friday, August 2 from 7 to 8 pm at St. James Church to pray for more vocations.

The Eucharistic Holy Hour is a beautiful devotional prac-tice observed by the Catholic Church for centuries. As Catholics, we believe that Jesus Christ is truly and substan-tially present in the Holy Eucharist. By praying before our Lord in Eucharistic Exposition, we present ourselves to Him, thereby offering ourselves and our petitions more fully to Him. ‘The harvest is great, but the laborers are few.’ Please pray for vocations!

tion period – for a total of $664,345.17— 89% of our $750,000 goal.

Parishioners who have so generously responded to help us reach our goal!

SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES

Have you heard of Small Christian Communities? Once a week fellow parishioners meet to look at the up-coming weekend scripture readings and try to relate them to their everyday lives. Using prepared materials, we read, talk, listen, pray, and sometimes laugh, but always learn something new. We would like to form new groups this fall. To find out if this could be some-thing you might find interesting, come join a SCC meet-ing over the summer and just check it out! We will be meeting at 7 p.m. in the Assumption Church library (off the church hall) on the following Thursdays: August 8 and 22 . (Please use the back door.) Come to one or all of these meetings and, if it speaks to you, join a newly forming group in the fall. If you have questions or want more info, call Joan O’Loughlin, 860-643-4031.

If you are being called to serve as a priest or reli-gious visit www.hartfordpriest.com or speak with Fr.

Cavanaugh or Fr. Janusz.

Cruisin’ on Main Street

This annual event will take place on Sunday, August 4th,

from 10AM to 3 PM (rain dates, Sun. 8/11 & 8/18). We would like to give you some info in advance. Main St. will be closed to all traffic from 7 AM -5:30 PM be-tween Center St. & Charter Oak St.. Side street access to Main St. will not be permitted. Main St. and side streets will reopen at 5:30 PM. Parishioners attending 7:30 AM and 9 AM Mass may travel Spruce St. to Oak St. to Main St. where a police officer will assist cars in crossing over Main St. and entering St. James St. where you will be able to en-ter the parking lot. At the end of Mass parishioners should plan to exit the church parking lot via Park St. and proceed westbound as Main St. will be closed. All other church ser-vice times, please access and exit the church parking lot via Park St. Church traffic should plan to approach Park St. from the west, avoiding Linden and Myrtle Sts. where show car check-in will be taking place. There will be no parking permitted on Main St. after 7 AM.

The Connecticut councils of the Legion of Mary are sponsoring a pilgrimage to Lourdes in Litchfield, located in the beautiful hills of Litchfield CT, on September 7, 2019. A bus will leave the Church of the Assumption at

7:30 am and return around 5:30 pm. The cost for the bus is $20.00 per person. The day will include Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation (if a priest is available) and a Marian talk in the afternoon followed by the Stations of the Cross concluding with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. If interested in going or for information, please contact Nancy Ecabert at 860-646-4325 by August 15.

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

We do not need to use a lot of words in order to pray well. Keeping things simple often works best, and it ap-pears to be the form of prayer most preferred by Jesus. The simplicity of the Lord's Prayer, the Our Father, gets quickly to the heart of all of our important relationships in life and sets us straight. Praying simply provides proper focus and helps us develop greater trust in God's providential care. We never know how each day will unfold and cannot control a good measure of what hap-pens to us. What we can control is the disposition we bring to life and how much we trust and hope in God's desire to make all things new and right. Pray simply and listen deeply. Our Father is calling.

Thursday, August 8 7 PM—Small Christian Community will meet in the Assumption Church library.

7 PM—K of C Council 1155, Assumption Church hall. Membership questions, please contact Grand Knight Joe Congdon, 860-372-1738.
