The mission of Metroparks of the Toledo Area is to conserve the region’s natural resources by creating, developing, improving, protecting, and promoting clean, safe, and natural parks and open spaces for the benefit, enjoyment, education, and general welfare of the public.

Hours of OperationAll Metroparks open daily, 7 a.m. until dark. Admission: Free. Other hours and fees apply to specific attractions.

ProgramsMetroparks programs and activities encompass a wide variety of interests related to the park district’s purpose. Programs are open to everyone. Children must be accompanied by adults unless noted as a drop-off program.

Metroparks TrailsTrails in each of the Metroparks offer a variety of distances and experiences, from winding dirt paths through the woods and prairies, to hard-surface all-purpose trails suitable for bicycling and skating. Oak Openings Preserve also has horse trails.

This summer, get your little naturalists off the couch and out on a Nature Camp adventure. Metroparks offers a variety of camps including: new camps for adults, families, teens, new overnight camping, plus new locations at Swan Creek and Side Cut Metroparks. Naturalists, counselors and volunteers lead families on fun and educational adventures through the wild world of nature. Call 419-407-9701 to register or for more information. Registration for Metroparks Summer Camp is now open.

Wee Workshop Camp (Ages 3 to 5) Explore a different nature theme each day through songs, puppets and games. Enjoy multi-sensory activities, crafts and outdoor exploration. Adults play alongside their children. Register child only. Memories Are Made At Summer Camp

Metroparks Explorers (Ages 5 to 7)Explore the super world of nature at Metroparks Explorers Camp. Campers spend the week learning about the incredible “super heroes” that live in our own backyards. Super-strength, flight and invi-sibility are just a few of the animal and plant super powers that explorers learn about in this camp. Every week includes two off-site adventures (trans-portation provided). Pack a lunch and reusable water bottle for each explorer. Fee covers crafts and activities, one snack per day and a t-shirt. Nature Camp (Ages 8 to 12) Take an adventure through the many places that plants and animals call “home” and meet some dynamic wildlife duos along the way. At Nature Camp, campers discover what makes a habitat, explore different ecosystems throughout the Metroparks and learn about the wild ways that plants and animals live together. Every week includes two off-site adventures (transportation provided). Pack a lunch and reusable water bottle for each adventurer. Fee covers crafts and activities, one snack per day and a t-shirt. NEW! Art Camp (Ages 8 to 14)Nature is the greatest artist of all. At this special camp, use natural materials and nature as inspiration to create your own works of art. Campers’ appreciation and understanding of nature is sure to evolve during a week exploring art’s connection to the environment. Each day features a new theme making this a great experience for children who enjoy art, nature, history and the outdoors. Wildwood Preserve is home-base with exciting trips planned to Secor Metropark and more. Bring your own lunch and water bottle. Equipment, supplies and field trip transportation are provided. NEW! Camp Expedition (Adults)Ever feel a little jealous when sending the little one off to Nature Camp? Not this summer – go on your very own adventure at Camp Expedition. Spend the week learning some fundamentals of environmental science, and explore Metroparks like never before. Camp specifically focuses on the ecology of the Oak Openings Region. Adults from all educatio-nal backgrounds are welcome. Pack a lunch and reusable water bottle. Fee covers equipment and a t-shirt. Different parks each day.

NEW! Overnight Camp: Fun For Everyone For the busiest beavers out there, Metroparks crammed a whole lot of Nature Camp fun into an overnight expedition. Take a weekend getaway to the new White Oak campground located in beautiful Oak Openings Preserve. Metroparks naturalists lead canoeing, geocaching, hiking, ghost stories, s’mores and much more. Come alone, as a couple or as a family. Maximum 32 people, eight tents, individuals under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Overnight Camp begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday and ends at noon on Sunday. Saturday dinner and Sunday continental breakfast provided. Bring a tent, equipment and sleeping bag (Limited camping equipment available to borrow). Please register all participants. Campers must be five years or older. Under The Moon 5K Run/WalkJoin Metroparks, Toledo Roadrunners Club and Dave’s Running Shop for a special event under the light of the moon. Run against the clock or enjoy a walk on the 3.1 mile trail course. Special lighting will help guide the way, but flashlights and headlamps are suggested. This is a fun event for all; there will be no official timing or scoring so go at your own pace. Along with a great Autumn run/walk under the moon, enjoy roaring fire pits, apple cider, s’mores, music and a presentation about what sings in the night.

Wildwood Manor HouseThe stunning Georgian Colonial-style mansion at Wildwood Preserve stands as one of Toledo’s architectural icons. Enjoy free guided or self-guided tours every weekend at this 32,000-square-foot, Depression-era home and learn about the region’s rich history. Plan some extra time to visit the rare Ellen Biddle Shipman garden, Frank Stranahan exhibit and the Manor House library. Open April - October, Tuesday - Friday and Sundays, Noon to 5 p.m.Free. This is the only site in Ohio where mules still pull a boat through an original 19th century lock. Leopold Education Project Educator’s WorkshopThe Leopold Education Project (LEP) is an innovative, interdisciplinary conservation ethics curriculum for grades 6-12. Leopold, who is considered the father of wildlife management and the wilderness system, was a forester, philosopher, professor and writer. By learning about this great conservationist and his writing, educators will find a variety of practical hands-on ways to deepen their student’s awareness of the natural world.
