FRENCH: Students of class 9 worked on presenting five famous monuments in France. They did

this with the help of posters and a brief description on the importance of each in French.

BIOLOGY: Using chicken‟s eggs to demonstrate osmosis:

It may be hard for chick to break through a eggshell but what if it could make the shel

dissolve; it was amazing to see the shell dissolve in dilute Hydrochloric

acid. We have seen a lot of hardboiled eggs but students were amazed

to see an unboiled egg without the shell. The students caught on to the

concept of Osmosis by watching the shell-less egg swell when placed in

water and shrink when put in salt solution. Students enjoyed the activity thoroughly.

DNA EXTRACTION:

DNA-the finger print of life Watson and Crick proposed the DNA structure. But class 9 stu-

dents felt the same excitement while they learnt to extract DNA from the banana pulp and ob-

served them under the microscope. The most fascinating aspect was that they extracted DNA

not with the help of complicated procedures and apparatus but with simple

materials used in their kitchen. Students were very proud of their accom-

plishment at the end of this activity.

ENGLISH The students of class IX got an opportunity to hone their oratorical skills dur-

ing their English classes. A debate on the topic “Should the age for the issue

of the driving license be revised and lowered?” was conducted in all the IX

standard classes. The students not only presented their ideas but they also learned to defend their

ideas. It was a great confidence building activity

GEOGRAPHY Students are very much familiar with jigsaw puzzles. In class 9, students were given one such

puzzle to solve. ‟The Pangea‟ cutouts were given to assemble to understand the concept of

plate boundaries and the tectonic movements. The students thoroughly enjoyed this activity.

MATHEMATICS

Students of class IX did an activity on Real Numbers. They made beautiful and

perfect square root spirals with great enthusiasm. Through this activity, students

understood one of the ways to represent real numbers on the number line.

PHYSICS

Understanding Newton‟s three laws of motion: Nature and nature’s laws lay hid in

night; God said “Let Newton be” and all was light. (Alexander Pope-

an English poet) “Physics can be fun”. This might seem hard to believe but students

of Std 9th aptly realized this. It was a simple activity but so informative

and interesting that our students couldn‟t stop themselves saying “This is

awesome”. They made a working model of a fan car using simple items like a 3V DC motor, 2

AA size cells, 2 pipes, 2 rubber sheets,1 AA size battery holder etc using an „activity kit‟ and a „tool kit‟

that was provided to them. The objective was to demonstrate the Newton‟s 3 laws of motion by study-

ing the motion of a fan car and correlating it with the motion of different bodies we observe daily. It was

an unconventional way of studying Physics without the use of a blackboard and a chalk piece. Stu-

dents truly loved it.
