NAMALAKA NEWS “Dear brothers and sisters, greetings from St. Joseph Parish. It is winter

here in Malawi. Usually this month is cold. People are starting to cover them-

selves with heavy coats. I am writing to update you on the feeding program.

We have started very well during this third term. We are using some bags of

maize we bought last term.

On May 13, we had a farewell party. We were bidding farewell to STD 8 stu-

dents who are writing their examination that will allow them to enter second-

ary school. Feeding program has performed wonders. For the first time the

school has 72 students who are sitting for the examinations. 44 are girls

and 28 are boys. Out of 44 girls, 3 are young girls who have come back to

school after giving birth to their first child. They came under back to school

program. Join us in praying for their success in their examinations.”

PRAYER FOR THE

CHURCH IN

TRANSITION Lord and Source of all

gifts, We thank you

now for the gift of

change, the gift of

newness that opens

doors closed by habit

and routine. We bless

You and thank You as

well for that which is

stable and unchang-

ing, for the ancient

and traditional which

give meaning to the

new and different.

May we open our

hearts to this change,

embracing it with full

participation in the

life of the parish. We

pray for both Fr. Jim

and Fr. Wichert as

they begin this time of

transition. And we

pray the transition we

are now experiencing

may strengthen our

parish and the faith of

all those touched

by it.

Amen

Questions for Students Name the 6 seasons of

the Church calendar,

and the three main

colors.

Which Church season

starts after Pentecost?

Who was the first king

of the Israelites?

Who moved from Moab

with her mother in

law?

Who were Jesus’s first

disciples?

PENTECOST

Pentecost is the birthday of the Catholic Church. Just im-agine the 50 days that the Apostles spent after the day that Jesus rose from the dead. You can read all about the Pentecost experience in THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES chapter 2.

KNIGHTS CORNER

Building the Domestic Church Pope Francis describes the Church as “a family of

families.” This is especially true of our parish

churches and is the fundamental premise under-

lying our Building the Domestic Church While

Strengthening Our Parish initiative. In promoting

each family as a domestic church, the Knights of

Columbus primarily seek to integrate our mem-

bers and their families

more fully into the sacra-

mental and social life of

the parish.

the RCIA process is for you! The RCIA is a flexible mul-

ti-step process that meets people where they are and

guides them in discerning whether or not God is lead-

ing them into full initiation into the Catholic Church.

SPIRITUAL BOUQUET FOR FR. JIM

In gratitude for his 12 years at our parish and his 20 years as a priest, we are

giving Fr. Jim a spiritual bouquet along with the memory book. A spiritual bou-

quet is a collection of prayers from many people, presented as a single gift.

The total of each type of prayer will be listed, along with the names of all con-

tributors, but the name will not be attached to the specific prayers offered. To

participate, send your prayer offering (Our Fathers, Hail Mary's, Rosaries,

Chaplets of Divine Mercy, Masses, Adoration Hours, etc.) in English to

[email protected]. They may also be turned in to Diane at the

Parish Office or to the Memory Book table in the Narthex after Mass.

BE A PART OF FR. JIM’S MEMORY BOOK! There will be tables in the Narthex for the next four weeks for you to pick up

your memory page to fill in with your photos, notes, quotes, verses from scrip-

ture, recipes, prayer, drawings, etc. Let’s not let Fr. Jim forget how loved and

appreciated he is for all he has done for us over the past 12 years. There will

be boxes in the Parish Library or at the Parish Office to return your pages.

Complete your page by June 11 to allow us time to assemble the book. You

may make a family page or have each member create their own page.

Questions? Contact Colleen Danforth at [email protected]

FR. JIM’S FAREWELL GIFT If you wish to contribute a gift for Fr. Jim, please make checks payable to

Tony Partington with a “for gift” note on the memo line. Please do not drop

it in the collection basket. You may mail or bring it to the Parish Office, Atten-

tion: Tony Partington. Please contact Joyce VonFeldt ([email protected]) or

Colleen Danforth ([email protected]) if you have any questions.

REGISTRATION

&

ONLINE GIVING

Every person’s finances

and family situation is dif-

ferent. Jesus makes it

clear that it matters not

how much one gives, but

that it is planned, calculat-

ed, at least some-

what sacrificial (see Luke

24:1-4), and not simply

from what is “leftover” at

the end of the month. We

propose the tithe (10%) as

the ideal every family can

consider working to-

wards. This means taking

steps to give 5% to one’s

parish, and 5% to other

charities or causes you

have personal passion for.

You can register online at

www.saintbrendan.org

and click on the link

“Online Registration/New
