The Board adopted a motion that it reaffirm its previous action; that itcontinue to delegate approval of MICN programs to the Office of EMS;that a proposal to revise the approval process be referred to the Officeof EMS with a letter indicating that this office may, at its discrection,discuss this proposal with consultants. The Board also adopted a motionthat the Office of Emergency Medical Services be requested to reportto the Board in August, 1984, concerning how the proposal differsfrom the current MICN educational requirements. The Board of MedicalExaminers adopted a further motion that the Board of Nursing be informedthe North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners has once again considered theprocess of reviewing and approving MICN educational programs and hasreaffirmed its previous action that this process continue to be delegatedto the Office of Emergency Medical Services.

Report on Revisions to the Approved Formulary Accepted by the Board as Information

The Executive Secretary reported that the Joint Subcommittee recommendedrewording of certain existing statements in the "Formulary" forclarification purposes.

Meeting Iboms for Joint Subcommittee and Joint Committee on Midwifery

The President directed the Executive Secretary of the Board of MedicalExaminers to work out meeting room arrangements for the JointSubcommittee and the Joint Committee on Midwifery and to inform theBoard of Nursing of these arrangements.

Nurse Practitioner Application

The Chairman of the Joing Subcommittee reported that this Committeewishes to delete the Routine Questions and that the Joint Subcommitteerecommended the staff of both Boards revise the "Interpretations"and the Instructions for Completing all types of Nurse Practitioner applications.

Dr. Koontz reported to the Board that he informed the Joint Subcommi tteeof the 1 imitation placed by HCFA on the number of nurse anesthetists aphysician may supervise.

Nurse Practitioner Program Review and Approval Process

The Board adopted a motion that a phys i ci an and nurse member of the JointSubcommittee continue to review each nurse practitioner program submi ttedfor evaluation. The Board of Medical Examiners adopted a further motionthat the Board of Nursing be informed of this action.
