The events of 150th Sesquicentennial are now in full swing. I've taken part in a few of these events as others have also. There will be a lot more events over the next few weeks with the "150th" of SEVEN DAYS BATTLES. Please come and bring your children and grandchildren out to these special events to learn of the history of our city & area. Please, don't forget June 2nd. It will be a very big & exciting day! First, it will be a day to Honor our President, Jefferson Davis. Secondly, it will be a time to Honor the Bravery and Courage of one Pvt. Lawrence Berry, of the 3rd Co. Washington Artillery of New Orleans. Pvt. Berry will receive a Confederate Medal of Honor from the Sons of Confederate Veterans, which Commander in Chief Givens will be on hand to present. This is made possible through a lot of work and dedication from M ike Thomas, also assists from John Henry Taylor. Come January 2013, the Medal will be handed over to the Petersburg Museums and will be put on display at the visitors center at Blandford Cemetery in the spring. There will be an opening reception of the display and exhibit opened to all. Details to be announced. At this time, I request your time and support for this event taking place on June 2nd.  With this in mind, we need to arrive by 8:00 am on the morning of, June 2nd, to assist the Memorial Committee in anyway we can. They will need help with set-up before & take down after the program. I've spoken with Everette Ellis, have offered our services in whatever way it may be needed to assist. This is our way of saying THANK YOU, for allowing us to take part in the program. We had a great turn out at Chesterfield Court House back in April. I would love to see that and more on June 2nd! The more we have for help the easier and more quickly it can be done. We had 9 people sign-up at the last meeting, WE NEED TO DOUBLE THAT!!! Please come out and support the program and our camp. June 16th is our 2nd Annual Camp Picnic.
