As the newly elected President of MCPOA for 2017-18, I truly welcome your support and input. A big thank you to Mahew Atchley for his service as President during the 2016-17 year, and to all the board members and volunteers who served during his tenure. Also, I cannot emphasize enough, our gratude to Execuve Director Joy Junsay who holds the ship we call MCPOA together; without her support and guidance it would be a daunng task for sure. A quick introducon of myself. I am a 15-year veteran with the California Department of Correcons & Rehabilitaon. I have spent my career at Correconal Training Facility (CTF) and Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP). I started as a Correconal Officer, working my way through the ranks in various capacies, such as Sergeant, Lieutenant, Public Informaon Officer, Training Manager, and now Captain. Eventually my goal is to make it to rank of Tsar of Correcons. Ok, yes, I made that tle up … it sounded good, so I guess Director of Correcons will suffice;). Unless, of course, I can get Governor Brown to change the name. I am proud to have the opportunity to serve as your President during this upcoming term. As always you can look forward to our many events throughout the next 12 months, such as the MCPOA Peace Officer of the Year, Support Employee of the Year, Golf Tournament, Cioppino Feed, etc. Addionally, I hope to introduce some new events this year to help nurture and emphasize further fellowship between our Law Enforcement Agencies in Monterey County (yes, even CHP is invited;)). Can anyone say, PAINTBALL!!! Any takers?!? This last May we unfortunately saw the rerement of John Carr, our longme Range Master. Thank you, John, for your years of reless service as our MCPOA Range Master and guru of the range. I won’t date John (or myself), but I think I was sll in high school when he started at the range, lol. Thanks again John!!! I would also like to introduce and thank Dale Allen (Ret. Sergeant, Sand City) for stepping in and filling some big shoes by taking over the reins as our new Range Master. So if you have a range issue, Dale is the guy to bug, not me! Lastly, I would like to thank and congratulate all our incoming board members (elected or appointed) for your dedicaon to this organizaon. Your connued service of cycling through the various posions (mulple mes for some) within MCPOA is truly appreciated. With that, I truly hope to see more members step up and support our cause. Don’t be shy, we can always use the help, we are all volunteers here. For you Millennials that may be hard to understand, but ask and thou shall receive;). Greetings to all Monterey County Peace Officer Association members.

Firstly, I would like to take a moment to thank you all for your support of MCPOA throughout the preceding years, and look forward to your continued support in the coming year. As the newly elected President of MCPOA for 2017-18, I truly welcome your support and input. A big thank you to Matthew Atchley for his service as President during the 2016-17 year, and to all the board members and volunteers who served during his tenure. Also, I cannot emphasize enough, our gratitude to Executive Director Joy Junsay who holds the ship we call MCPOA together; without her support and guidance it would be a daunting task for sure.

A quick introduction of myself. I am a 15-year veteran with the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation. I have spent my career at Correctional Training Facility (CTF) and Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP). I started as a Correctional Officer, working my way through the ranks in various capacities, such as Sergeant, Lieutenant, Public Information Officer, Training Manager, and now Captain. Eventually my goal is to make it to rank of Tsar of Corrections. Ok, yes, I made that title up … it sounded good, so I guess Director of Corrections will suffice;).

Additionally, I hope to introduce some new events this year to help nurture and emphasize further fellowship between our Law Enforcement Agencies in Monterey County (yes, even CHP is invited;)). Can anyone say, PAINTBALL!!! Any takers?!?

This last May we unfortunately saw the retirement of John Carr, our longtime Range Master. Thank you, John, for your years of tireless service as our MCPOA Range Master and guru of the range. I won’t date John (or myself), but I think I was still in high school when he started at the range, lol. Thanks again John!!! I would also like to introduce and thank Dale Allen (Ret. Sergeant, Sand City) for stepping in and filling some big shoes by taking over the reins as our new Range Master. So if you have a range issue, Dale is the guy to bug, not me!

Lastly, I would like to thank and congratulate all our incoming board members (elected or appointed) for your dedication to this organization. Your continued service of cycling through the various positions (multiple times for some) within MCPOA is truly appreciated. With that, I truly hope to see more members step up and support our cause. Don’t be shy, we can always use the help, we are all volunteers here. For you Millennials that may be hard to understand, but ask and thou shall receive;). Remember, there is always a Baby Boomer or Gen X’er to help guide you.

As always, stay safe and continue representing our county with pride and professionalism!!!

EXECUTIVE DIRECTORWow! These past six months have been busy managing my health issues around my duties and responsibilities for the Monterey County Peace Officers Association (MCPOA). Can’t believe a new fiscal year is just around the corner.

I completed Chemo treatments March 30, 2017 and have been informed that I won’t need to undergo radiation treatments to a mammory lymph node cancer since the chemo did exactly what it was to do – kill the cancer. Can I get an AMEN?

There’s some new things happening with CalStar, now known as AirMedCare Network. Enrollment Period will be July 1st through September 1st each year for memberships (new and renewing). Membership rate for CalStar has increased to $55 per year for individual or family. More information about the new scope of services and a ‘Fly-U-Home’ program ($139/year) will be included in this newsletter.

Come July 1, 2017, the 2017-18 Board of Directors of the Monterey County Peace Officers Association will welcome a New Year. Join me in welcoming the 2017-18 Board:
