THE BAND PLAYED ON

Congratulations to the students on a great Christmas Concert! We

worked very hard, and I think the end result was worth it.

I will be passing out solos for the February 25th Solo/Ensemble Contest

next week. This will give students a chance to start working on them over

the Christmas break. The earlier they start and the more they practice the

more rewarding the contest experience will be.

The Jazz Band is gong to be trimmed a bit for Contest. I will only be

taking one on a part. I will be letting students know who will be

participating in the Contest Jazz Band next Thursday. I’m determining

this group from the progress and positive participation I have seen with

the individual students the last three months. The Full Jazz band will

rehearse on Mondays & Contest Jazz Band on Thursdays beginning in

January.

The District Organizational (Full) band contest is March 25th & State is

April 29th.

7th Language Arts: We have finished the revisions for The Lightning Thief

comparative essay. Now, we will start applying those analytical skills to an oral

presentation in which students will pick a topic in the news, gather information, and

present their findings to the class.

week we will continue with reading and analyzing “The Most Dangerous Game”. We

will work on identifying and determining the purpose of figurative language and

symbolism in the text.

8th Language Arts: Students are working to complete their oral presentation

project on Wonder. For this assignment, students selected either an element of the

theme, setting, or character development to analyze, established a thesis, and

identified textual support in order to present their findings to the class.

8th Literature: We will have finished reading Part 8 of Wonder by Monday which

will finish the novel. There will be a test on Wednesday over the novel and reading

journals will also be due on Wednesday. Afterwards, we will begin preparing for a

final project focusing on the development of precepts to wrap up the unit on Wonder.
