K. S. D. S. Mandal, Malvan

Krushnarao Sitaram Desai Shikshan Mandal, Malvan was established in the year 1914 by

Krushnarao Sitaram Desai as ‘Womens Education Society’, with an objective of providing

education to the economically, educationally and socially weaker women of the society.

K.S.D.S Mandal is an educational society registered under the Indian Society’s Regestration

Act of 1860 and also a Public Trust registered under the Bombay Trust Act 1950. It is also

registered under section 12(a) od Income Tax Act 1961 and is exempted u/s G of the said

act.

K.S.D.S. Mandal is one of the oldest education organisations of Malvan and has done

pioneering work in the field od education for weaker sections of the society. Looking years

back, the society started with a humble beginning with a Kanyashala for women in a single

room with greater hardship, pain and an aim to spread education amongst the economically

backward people. Today K.S.D.S. Mandal is serving education facilities to more than

and the citizens by actively taking parts in social work by various means such as Tree

As a president, Mr. Kalam personified dignity and optimism throughout India

and abroad. His stirring speeches at the UN and the European Parliament are

among the best delivered. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam has and continues to influence

many students. For his achievements, he got honoured with Padmabhushan

award in 1981, Padma Vibhushan award in 1990 and Bharat Ratna award in

Tobacco is the biggest enemy of public health today. The effects of

tobacco use, as we all know, are destructive and widespread.

According to a recent study conducted by the American Cancer Society,

almost 30% of the Indian population, in the age group of 15 years and above

use some form of tobacco while the early forms of tobacco include chewing

tobacco leaves, ghutka and beedis, cigarettes, cigars, chillum and hookahs are

equally common, especially in the urban areas.

Tobacco smoke contains approximately 4000 chemicals in cigarettes,

100s of which are toxic like formddehyde, ammonia and cadmium. These

constituents of cigarettes have a detrimental effect on everything from the

body’s immunity to the functioning of the organs.

Smoking not only puts the active smoker in the danger zone of diseases

but envelopes the innocent passive smokers too into its fold. It has been

scientifically proven that smoking causes cancer and a host of other diseases

like emphysema, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary

artery disease, liver cancer, prostate cancer, erective dysfunction in men,

stomach cancer, bladder and kidney cancer, acute myeloid leukemia cataract,

cervical cancer, kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer,periodontitis, pneumonia,

oral, buccal, laryngopharyngeal and lung cancer, but somehow even

formidable list does not act as a deterrent for addicted smokers to quit

smoking. Research reveals that:

*Smoking tobacco triples your risk of a heart attack.

*Smoking just eight cigarettes a day doubles your heart attack risk.

*Light smokers (less than 10 cigarettes a day) who give up smoking,

return to normal non - smoking risk of heart attack after 3 to 5 years

*Heavy smokers (more than 20 cigarettes per day) who give up

smoking, have a 22% higher heart attack risk 20 years after they quit

(passive smoking) raises heart attack risk by 45%.

Nicotine is addictive and increases cholesterol levels in your body.

every part of the body, even in breast milk. Though not all of these health

problems related to smoking result in death, the illnesses can limit one’s daily

life by making it harder to breathe, work or play.

The maratha malwa kingdom, India Rajmata Ahilyabai was born in

the village of chondi in Jamkhed, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra She moved

the capital to Maheshwar south of Indore on the Narmada River.

Ahilyabai’s husband Khanderao Holkar was killed in the battle of

kumbher in 1754. Twelve years later, her father in law, Malhar Rao

Holkar, died A year after that she was crowned as the queen of the

malwa kingdom. She tried to protect her kindom from plundering

invaders. She appointed Tukojirao Holkar as the chief of Army.

Ahilyabai was born on 31 may 1725 in the village of chondi, in the

present - day Alimed nagar district in Maharashtra. Her father, Mankoji

Rao Shinde, was the patil of the village women there did not go to

school,but Ahilyabai’s father taught her to read and write.

Her Husband was killed during the siege of kumher in 1754, on

request of support from Imad - Ul - Mulk, the mughal Emperor Ahmad

Shah Bahadur Mir Bakhshi, Ahilyabai’s husband Khanderao Holkar in

the army of his father Malhar Rao Holkar , laid the siege of kumher fort

of Jat Maharaja Suraj Mal of Bharatpur state who had sided with the

mughal Emperor’s rebellious Wazir Safdar Jang. Khanderao was

inspecting his toops on an open palanquin in the battle of kumher

when was hit and killed by a connonball from the jat army. After his

death in 1754, his father Malhar Rao Holkar died in 1766, 12 years after

the death of his son Khanderao. Malhar Rao’s grandson and

Khanderao’s only son Male Rao Holkar become the rilar of Indore in

“AHILYABAI HOLKAR”

of Indore in 1766, under the regentship of Ahilyabai’s but he to died

with few months on 5 April 1767. Ahilyabai become the rular of Indore

after the death of her son with khanderao.

There are many stories of her care for the people. In one instance,

when her minister refused to allow the adoption unless he was suitable

bribed, She is said to have sponsored the child herself, and given her

clothes and Jewels as part of the ritual. To honour the memory of

Ahilyadevi Holkar, in 1996 leading citizens of Indore instituted an award

in her name to be bestowed annually on an outstanding public figure.

The Prime Minister of India gave away the first award to Nanaji

Deshmukh.

A commemorative stamp was issued in her honor on 25 August

1996 by the Republic of India. As a tribute to the great rular, Indore

domestic airport has been name Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport. Similarly

Indore university has been renamed as “ Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya”

Annual Report (2019-20)

In year 2019-20 for senior college total 355 books were purchased.

In 2019-20 for Junior college total 44 books were purchased.

In 2019-20 for BC Book Bank scheme total 48 books were purchased.

Total 447 books were purchased in the year 2019-20. These include text

books, reference books and competitive exam books.

Library also received 65 books as donation/specimen copies in 2019-20,

these books were registered in the gratis register.

Library received Rs. 9240/- financial grant from Department of Students

‘Development, Mumbai University to purchase books for BC Book Bank.

For senior college Rs. 59,509/- were Expended on books.

For Junior college Rs. 4,396/- were expended on books.

Total Rs. 20,506/- were expended on News Paper.

Total Rs. 10,262/- were expended on Periodicals.

Through Inter Library Loan our library borrowed 12 science reference

books from S. R. M. College, Kudal for one year period.

Library provides 34,792 (Total Number of books in library) books for

reference and home issue.

Book bank facility is provided to our students for the period of one year.

On 21st June 2019 International Yoga Day was celebrated Organised

Women and girls are facing insecurities due to increasing sexual

harassment, rape cases and molestation, etc. It has raised the need of self

defense training, hence, Gymkhana Department organised ‘Shakti Self

Defense Short Term Training Course for college students and women in

Malvan and the nearby villages. The course was conducted during 10th

January to 10th February 2020. College student and Marshall Arts expert

Shri. Vaibahv Valanju worked as the Instructor for this course. 15 candidates

participated in the course. The valedictory ceremony was conducted on 10th

February, 2020, during which, all the participants were felicitated by
