www.KalDream.org From the Desk of the Director Did you ever stop to notice that those who serve the needy are some of the most joy- ful people there are? It’s true; they seem to be people who are the most positive, ambitious, and generally cheerful in their disposition and attitude. It’s no mystery that God’s desire is that we help the poor but we seldom think much about what that does in us, The bible says in 2 Corinthians 9:12 “This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Yes, serving others does provide for needs and is a loving expression of selflessness that many can ad- mire, however the outward character of those who serve according to this portion of scrip- ture is overflowing with more than just acts of kindness. Those who set themselves aside to be used to serve others also place themselves in a position to overflow with a thankful heart. We are very blessed to have these types of volunteers who give of themselves so faithfully. Churches Help Bring Warmth to Families Winter is in full swing here in Kalamazoo, the roads are covered in snow, schools are closing and you don’t dare step outside without first putting on a heavy winter coat. But what if you had fallen on hard times and were not able to purchase a winter coat. That’s what we have been seeing a lot of down here at the Dream Center; many people have been coming here without a coat and because of many generous coat donations they have been leaving with one. This winter coats have been provided for these people through church’s coat drives. Many local churches have rallied their congregations to action donating their old coats that would otherwise be taking up space in clos- ets. Through donations like these, at least 400 coat needs will be met this winter. One mother came into The Dream Center having already purchased a coat for her daughter. “I already bought her a coat but halfway through the winter she sprouted up and couldn’t fit in it anymore, I couldn’t buy her another one so we came here.” Anyone with kids knows how that goes. Stories like that are not rare around here. But, through donations of old clothes many people who would have otherwise gone without are able to walk out of our doors having their needs met. If they are cold, they will leave clothed, if they are hungry they will leave with food and if they just want to talk, they will leave, listened too. Ministry like this cannot be done alone; it takes the support of churches and individuals to keep the Kalamazoo Dream Center afloat. It is through that support that hundreds of people are able to walk through our doors and leave not only having their physical needs met but also having a very real encounter with the love of Christ, and that is the reason we are here.
