his year, more than 50 pupils at Ho Yat Tung

Primary School joined the prefect team. They

need to take care of the young students and

take them back to their classrooms after recess. When

the students run in the playground, the prefects need

to stop them.

We needed new prefects at Ho Yat Tung because

we did not have enough. Some old prefects from P.6

finished school, so we needed to replace them. The

students applied to be prefects by writing down what

they would do if they got chosen. They were chosen by

the teachers. “If prefects are good, the pupils will be

good too! The prefects are helpful and hardworking!”

said Miss Kung, the English teacher from 5B.

The prefects are important for the students and

teachers at Ho Yat Tung because they help the school

to run smoothly. “I think prefects are important

because if we didn’t have prefects at this school, the

school would be noisy and messy!” said Shita Pak from

5B.

We need to have prefects in our school so the

school will run well.

n 30th September, Ho Yat Tung Primary

School’s students and teachers dressed

casually. Many of them donated money to

the Hong Kong Community Chest. They could donate

money at the ground floor at 1st and 2nd recess and at

lunch recess. If you donated $100 or more, you got a

receipt.

Ho Yat Tung has Dress Casual Day every year.

Everyone was excited about that day.

The theme of this Dress Casual Day was hats.

Students and teachers wore hats on that day. The

class teacher chose the students with the most

beautiful hats to take a photo. Some students made

their own hats by themselves. Some were made of

balloons and other materials. Most of the students

wore caps, berets or sunhats.

Miss Leung, an English

teacher at HYT, said, “I liked

Dress Casual Day because it was

a very meaningful event. I could

help many people in need. I put a

little hat on my shirt to support this year’s theme. I

want to join it next year again because I can donate

money for people in need and I can have fun with the

students too.”

Most of the students thought that Dress

Casual Day was an interesting event. Students

enjoyed not wearing their uniform. They do not like

wearing uniforms to school because they like wearing

their own clothes more. They like colourful clothes.

Abby Wong from 6A said, “I enjoyed Dress

Casual Day very much. I wore a cap on that day. I

want to join it next year again because I can donate

money on that day. I think it is very meaningful.”

The students and teachers enjoyed Dress

Casual Day. They are looking forward to joining in

with a different theme next year.

Ho Yat Tung Sports Day

School News 4 Kaleidoscope January 2015

n 5th December, 2014, P.3-P.6 students had a

sports competition in Tang Shiu Kin Sports

Ground. Many students competed in the

Sports Day.

They met at school and went to Tung Shui

Kin Sports Ground by school bus. There were

running, high jump and long jump competitions. All

P.6 students had to join one of the competitions. P.4

to P.5 students could choose to join a competition or

not.

Most of the students thought the day was

good. Most of them liked it because they had a fun

day and they could play with their classmates. Gary

Hung from class 6A said, “I love Sports Day because

all students can have a chance to play with other

students.”

People who got first won a gold medal. People

who got second won a silver medal, and people who

got third got a bronze medal. Jay Lai from class 5A

said, “I liked the Sports Day because I won a medal

and it made me happy!”

Sports Day was a good day for the students

of Ho Yat Tung Primary School to compete against

their classmates.

School Exams

t Ho Yat Tung Primary School, students had exams from 28th October, 2014 to 31st October, 2014.

Some students felt happy because they had studied hard., but some students felt scared because

they hadn’t studied hard.

P.1-P.6 students had exams. The exams were in room 5B. The exams were for four hours each. The

subjects were Chinese, English, Maths and General Studies. Vinnie Kong from 5A said, “Some pupils like

exams and some don’t. I like exams very much because I can see if my knowledge is

good!”

The exams are important because the teachers want to know if the students

understand what they are learning. Jerry Lam from 5B said, “I like exams because I

am a clever boy. I think I will get high marks in all my subjects!”

We hope every student has good exam results!

A Trip Through the Door

One day, I went hiking with my friends. After hiking for one hour, we had a break, and we ate our lunch.

We ate sandwiches and drank some juice. After eating, we ran around. Suddenly, my friend Kelly shouted,

“Look! There’s a piece of paper on that flower!”

We saw some weird numbers on it: “192851”. We didn’t know what they meant, so

we took the paper and kept walking. Then, I saw a special road going into a cave door.

The door was closed. My friend asked, “Where will it lead to?” So, I tried the password

on the paper to open the cave. The password really worked!

We pushed the door very hard so that we could go inside. There was a big forest.

All the leaves on the trees were pink! I heard a laughing sound too. It was weird, so we

kept walking alone. We got lost, and I was a bit scared there!

“I hope we can find the exit,” I yelled.

“It’s just behind you!” Kelly shouted.

We walked to the exit and found a beach there. I asked one of the girls there, “Where are we?”

She said, “Welcome! You are in Relaxing Place!” What a good name! She also told us about the things

around there. There was pop music playing all around. It was a happy place. All the people there loved music.

They even sang when they were talking. They were happy every day because they didn’t have to work or go to

school.

“I wish I could live here for a long time!” I thought.

At night, the people there ate two good-smelling hamburgers and drank three cups of cola for dinner. I

was very full after eating, but it was tasty. The girl, Sue, told us the people in Relaxing Place never get fat,

even though they keep eating! It was scary!

After eating, I told my friend a secret, “Kelly! I miss home. Let’s leave this strange place tomorrow. Do

you agree?” She did. We decided to leave the next morning at six o’clock. But at night we couldn’t sleep

because the people were too noisy! They kept singing and playing through the whole night. Finally, I slept at

almost twelve o’clock. Kelly slept too.

The next morning, we tried to leave, but they didn’t let us! They were so mean! They made us eat lots of

food which made us feel full and tired. So, I tried another idea to leave when they were relaxing. It really

worked!

After leaving, we threw away that paper with the password because we didn’t want anyone to go there

again.

The Door

Last Sunday, when I was going to the car park to get my watch from my dad’s car, I found a button on

the ground. It was red and it had small words on it: “Press me so that you can have an adventure”. Because of

my curiosity, I pressed it.

Bang! Suddenly, I was in a lift. “Help!” I screamed, but nobody answered me. Finally, I landed in front

of a secret door. “What’s inside it?” I thought, with a bit of excitement. I observed the door carefully. It

was made of gold and it was yellow in colour. It was smooth and enormous. The weird thing was that it was C-

shaped! Last but not least, it had a card on it. It said: “Secret Door”. That was surprising! I decided to see

what was happening behind the door. I opened the door…

It was really heavy, so I used all of my strength to open it. At this moment, I found myself in a deep,

silent sea. I screamed, “I can’t swim! Help me!” There were green trees in the water. I was

really curious that trees could even live in the water without air! Moreover, there were a

lot of green creatures in front of me. I thought they were goblins.

“Who are you?” a loud voice which made me almost deaf said. “This is Seabolism.

You won’t die even if you drown! You can do anything!” I turned around and saw a short,

green goblin. After listening to his explanation, I calmed down and tried to learn more

about this weird place, Seabolism. “Seabolism is a kingdom on Mars,” he explained.

“Really? I have wanted to go to Mars for a long time! Hurray!” I interrupted him excitedly. I told him

I came from Earth, and he was interested in that. He introduced himself as Jack. We soon became good

friends and talked about everything.

During the conversation, I observed Jack and the world. Seabolism was very cold since it had no

sunlight. Jack dressed messily, and he smelt bad. “Maybe it’s a goblin speciality…” I thought.

“Why did you come here?” he suddenly asked. I told him what happened. He was really curious and

confused about it. We talked and tried to find out the truth about the button. We wondered who had

produced a button that could take people to Seabolism. This was very high technology!

All of a sudden, some strange people appeared in front of us laughing. “Oh, I forgot to remind you…”

he said nervously, “there are pirates here!”

The pirates walked up to us. We were really afraid and we prepared to escape from the danger when

one of them pulled out a microphone. “I want to interview you about Earth.” We calmed down, and I started

the interview…

Doorway to Adventure School News

n 11th September , 40 P.6 students from Ho Yat Tung Primary School went to the Legislative Council to

learn more about the government. They went there by bus. On the way, all 40 students talked to each

other on the bus. They were very excited.

When they arrived there, a tour guide told them to be quiet so they wouldn’t disturb the people who

work there. The tour guide took them to look around the building. They saw many special rooms. They saw the

room where the people who work there debate. They went into the room to have a role play. They tried

debating there.

The students all thought that this was a very

fun trip. “I enjoyed the trip because I learnt many

new things. I’ve never been there before. It was

meaningful,” said Henry Chung from 6A.

n the first of September, six new teachers came to Ho Yat Tung Primary School . The school needed

new teachers because some other teachers left.

There are three female and three male teachers. Miss Lam teaches English. Miss Tsui teaches

English too, and Miss Wong teaches art. Mr. Fung teaches Chinese, Mr. Chan teachers P.E. and Mr. Mak

teaches 6A General Studies.

Miss Leung said, “The new teachers are energetic and friendly. They

can teach very well. Sometimes they ask me about teaching to make the

lessons better and energetic. They prepare a lot for every lesson and they

always try their best to teach their students. I am sure their students

enjoy their lessons very much.”

Yoyo Wu in 6A said, “The new teachers are very nice. Mr. Mak is

very nice. He teaches our class General Studies. He has a lot of knowledge

too. We enjoy his lessons very much.”

The six new teachers are very kind. We think they can teach the students well and are talented

people. If we have new teachers at HYT, we can learn some new things in their lessons.

Ellie the Elephant

Ellie the elephant,

Big, grey elephant,

Skin smooth like a mirror,

Big, oval-shaped ears.

Playing with her hat,

As cute as a cute rabbit.

Having a dancing competition

With her friend Annie,

Moving their legs.

Playing ball games,

With her long nose.

Walking to her cousin’s house,

To give her cousin some food.

When she sees her cousin,

She always plays tricks on her.

Ouch!

Andy and the Snowball

On a faraway island,

Black spot walking,

Waddling quickly,

A little penguin - Andy.

Wears a fluffy hat,

White and blue,

Wears a red scarf,

And small black boots.

Builds a snowman,

With his friend Max.

They play happily,

Suddenly, they hear a sound.

“Be careful of the big snowball!”

“It’s going very fast!”

They run very fast,

But the snowball rolls after them.

Boom! It hits a rock,

The little penguin is safe.

They build the snowman again,

It’s the tallest in the world.

It has a carrot nose,

And a tall, tall hat.

It has two hands,

And three buttons.

The Special Door

On Sunday, when I was on my way home, I saw a typhoon. The typhoon was dark. I thought this was a

special typhoon, so I went inside. When I walked into the typhoon, I saw a house with a door! “Fantastic! It’s

cool!” I said. The door was bigger than the house. The door had a handle. It was old and made of gold. The

door was made from 1000 carat gold. It was very heavy.

I kicked the door, but the door was so hard. “Oh! My feet!” I said. Then I opened the door. When I

opened the door, it made a very noisy sound. I opened the door for about half a minute.

Suddenly, I saw a bright light. It was so hot because there were one hundred suns there. I heard

some people quarrelling. They were fighting. When they saw me, they stopped. I thought I was in another

place and not on Earth, but I didn’t know if that was true or not. I felt so hot there. They were curious when

they saw my body. “Who are you?”

“I’m Bill. I’m from Earth. Where am I?”

“You are in Typhoon!”

They let me live in their house. They were helpful. They helped me to bring my luggage to their home,

but I didn’t know where the luggage came from! I thought they were helpful and smart. They spoke in One

Direction songs.

The next day, I heard the rooster crow, so I woke up. I saw that there were many farms and many

animals there. After I had breakfast, I decided to go back to my world because I needed to go to school, so

I found the door. I opened the door and left.

A Surprising Trip Behind the Door

On Thursday, I was on the way to the supermarket in Yau Oi. I passed by a smelly market. Next to the

market, there was a dark street. There were no lights and no people. I was curious because no

one walked into the street, so I walked into the street. Then, I saw a red and black door which

was made of metal and fish bones. The door was on the left of the street. I was surprised and

a little bit scared too. On the door, there was a sign: “STOP!” The red part of the door looked

like blood. I touched the door and the fish bones started to move…

The fish bones were broken, and they made a small cut on my face. I hated it, but I went through the

door. The door creaked when I opened it. I heard someone talking in a clear human voice. Then, I felt that

something was on my shoes. I saw some crabs and jellyfish. They were as small as my fingernails. They could

talk! I picked them up and put them onto my shoulders. Then, I noticed that I was standing on some black

ground. No! It was black sand. I was on a dark beach.

It was foggy at first. I did not know if it was day or night, but I thought it was day because there was a

little light coming through the fog. I walked forward, and then a light was in front of me. I couldn’t open my

eyes because of the light. I discovered that there was a bright-red sea like blood. There were many fishermen

and fisherwomen who wore fish skin clothes and with fish bone mouths. They never smiled! They spoke with a

frog sound and sang when they talked. There were fish in the sea, but they were bigger than me! The

fishermen and fisherwomen were trying to catch the fish, but they were not successful.

I walked forward and I walked on the sea! Suddenly, a big red wave was coming right up to me. Then, the

tiny sea animals on my shoulders shouted, “Careful! Run! The Fish King is going to catch you!” The people

shouted in the deep frog voice too. I ran as fast as I could, but I was caught by the Fish King. I cried and

cried.

The Fish King put me in a cave. It was made of wood. It was hard and rough. Outside, I saw the tiny sea

animals and the people were talking. They nodded their heads together. When the Fish King went to sleep, no

guards were near my cave. I felt afraid, but the sea animals and the people came together and used a knife to

break into the cave. They saved me!

I ran away and I said thankfully, “Where am I? But anyway, thank you!”

They said, “This is Sealand!” They all smiled with their fish bone mouths. I jumped into a hole in the

middle of the sea and went home finally.

Although I got captured by the scary Fish King, the fishermen and fisherwomen and the sea animals

rescued me. Overall, I thought it was an amazing trip.

Doorway to Adventure Creative Writing 7 Kaleidoscope January 2015

He lives in Bear Ocean,

And comes to the forest.

When he sees his friend Sally,

He plays tricks on her,

Splashes water on her face.

He likes eating ice cream.

Every morning,

He eats two ice creams.

He is very heavy!

When he needs to walk anywhere,

It sounds like

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Forest animals are scared,

They run away.

He can’t see anyone,

He feels lonely.

Brown Bear Ben

The white, small, cute rabbit,

Fur as soft as a cloud.

Her nose is pink and round,

Moves quickly as a tiger.

Wearing a red and purple ribbon,

Playing interesting games with her best friend,

A heavy, brown kangaroo.

Chasing through the green, tall trees happily.

Jumping up and down, as naughty as me!

They eat chocolates and biscuits after playing,

Crunch! Crunch!

The biscuits are crunchy, yummy and tasty!

After that, they talk happily for an hour.

Playing in the brown, dirty mud,

They are as smelly as a pair of socks!

At last, they are tired,

Sleeping for a long, long time.

They don’t want to get up.

They are lazy.

The Pinake

Dear Zookeeper,

Hi! I have a special animal that I want to give you to keep in the zoo.

It has a snake’s head and a pig’s body. It is called a pinake. It has big snake eyes and long lips, and it

has the body of a pig, including a short tail.

It normally lives in the forest in Mainland China. It can sleep for 23 hours a day. It can eat anything,

so when you are feeding it, beware of your fingers.

First of all, people will like this animal because it will eat all the rubbish that people want to throw

away, so they do not need to waste time to throw rubbish in the rubbish bin. They will also like the pinake

because it runs very fast and jumps very high.

The zoo has a pig and a snake but it does not have a pinake. People will be surprised by this animal.

Please help by keepng the pinake at your zoo.

The Birdon

Dear Zookeeper,

How are you? My name is Tramica. I am a P.6 student at Ho Yat

Tung Primary School. I would like to tell you about a new animal called a

birdon. I hope you can keep this animal at the zoo!

It has a bird’s head and a lion’s body. It has a sharp beak and a

pair of wings. It has claws too. Birdons usually live in the forest. They

can fly so far and so fast. They can run so fast too. They need to have

enough space to run and enough food to eat. If they don’t have enough

food, they will get sick. They like to eat worms, meat and nuts.

Now, the zoo has birds and lions, but it does not have a birdon. If you take this animal, more people

will visit your zoo. After people see it, they will tell their friends about the birdon. People will always visit

the zoo, and it will be famous! People will like the birdon because it can play sports very well. It plays

basketball and can do a hand stand on the ball for five minutes!

Birdons are not scary, so children will like to see them. Children will feel amazed but not scared of

them because they are so interesting. They will be interested in this animal because they can’t see it at

home. They will take many photos when they see the birdon.
