Wudhagaragarra Awards
A huge congratulations to Jonah Moss, Lily-Louise Walker and Kerrie Walden for their success in the
2019 Wudhagaragarra Awards. These awards are a celebration of the Excellence in Indigenous
Education achievements by students, staff, parents and community.
Jonah has received his award for his outstanding achievement in sport and Lily-Louise was
acknowledged for her outstanding achievements in the area of student leadership. Our Aboriginal Education Officer,
Kerrie Walden, was celebrated for her outstanding contribution to educational achievement by an Aboriginal staff
member. These three are very worthy recipients and I’m sure you will join with me in celebrating their successes. They
will receive their awards at a special ceremony in Dubbo tomorrow morning.
Year 6 Profiles
Today’s Kalori has the final in our Year 6 Profile series. I have enjoyed reflecting on all our Year 6 students have
achieved, in their participation and the opportunities our school has offered. To read their memories of Kindergarten
is heart-warming and to know that our school has given them such a strong foundation as they move towards their
high school journey is profound. Congratulations to all our Year 6 graduating students, enjoy these last few weeks of
your primary school experience as you prepare for the adventure ahead.
First Lunch, Second Lunch
I’m so excited to see so many of
our staff and students
embracing the change to our
eating routines with first lunch,
second lunch. There have been
some delicious, healthy and
nutritious offerings in
lunchboxes including wraps,
salads, sandwiches, leftovers in
thermoses, quiche and rice
paper rolls. This change to
eating routines sees our
students making healthier and
more sustaining choices for their school lunches. Students are encouraged to eat a more substantial part of their lunch
at 10.55am to maintain them through peak learning times followed by a fruit or vegetable snack at 12.10pm and a
smaller healthy lunch option at 1.10pm. As previously occurred, students are given time in class to eat their lunches
and outside playtime remains the same ensuring our students have plenty of time to be active throughout the day.

Our School Captains
Lauren Turnbull and
Andrew Smith
reflected on the
change with the
following comments:
“It’s a good change, not having the wait so long to eat our
lunch. It means we don’t get crazy hungry and we can
concentrate better in class. Our classes are calmer after the
food breaks,” said Lauren.
“Having my big lunch earlier means my food in my thermos
stays nice and warm and I’m eating less snacks now,” said
Andrew.
We thank you for your support in embracing this change
which is aimed at reducing high sugar, salt, and fat processed
snack foods in our students' lunches. To assist with the
change we will be hosting a Cancer Council Healthy Lunchbox
seminar on 13 November at 11am.

PBL News
During the lunch breaks, our PBL students, are being treated to extra sporting activities. We
have a new SLSO, William Coleman, who is running a range of physical activity challenges.
Some of these challenges include: tug-of-war, relays, basketball and squat challenges. William
has reported that there is good participation from students across all Stages. He has also
noticed that there has been an improvement in the skills of the students. Keep an eye out for
William in the playground with his sporting equipment.
Also, our new initiative of first lunch, second lunch has commenced where students are encouraged to bring healthy,
substantial and nutritious food. Well done to the students who are packing healthier alternatives such as salads, boiled
eggs and fresh fruit salad. It has also been noted that more students are bringing reusable containers. Healthy food
options provide the students the vitamins and minerals to promote good brain health to encourage and support their
learning.
Please remember for students to achieve BLUE level this term, they are required to have 213 points and for RED level
201 by Friday of Week 9. Also, there will be stage rewards during Week 5 for those students who have achieved 100
points.
Thank you to those parents and carers who have encouraged their children to be respectful, honest and responsible
learners by supporting our healthy food options. Healthy foods contain nutrients and vitamins that can boost brain
health and improve your mood. By fitting more of these into your diet, you’ll be on track to feeling good. Keep up the
good work! Thank you for your support.

Maths Matters
Fraction Fruit
In 5/6G we have been learning about fractions, percentages and
decimals. Students participated in a fun, hands-on lesson with healthy
fruit to consolidate and extend on their understanding of fractions,
percentages and decimals.
We cut different kinds of fruit up into proper fractions of 1/2, 1/4, 1/3,
1/8, 1/16 and compared the differences in fractions adding to the
consolidation of their understanding of fractions.
Within this lesson, students learnt:
• Comparing and ordering fractions.
• Cutting a whole fruit into proper fractions.
• Adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions.
• Solving problems using proper fractions, improper fractions and
mixed numerals.
• Applying mental strategies to solve problems involving addition
and subtraction of fractions with the same denominator.
• Mental strategies for generating equivalent fractions, such as
multiplying or dividing the numerator and the denominator by the same
number.

Sport
This term Year 3-6 are doing swimming for sport on Fridays from 11:30am-1pm in Weeks 4, 5, 6 and 7. Students will
be taken through a series of activities such as water confidence, water safety skills, stroke practice and diving. All
students are grouped according to the signed permission note from Term 1 and teacher judgement based on their
swimming ability. If you feel that your child is in the wrong group please send in a signed note to their classroom
teacher stating which group you feel they should be in.
Students are reminded to bring their swimming costume, towel, hat and sunscreen.
If students are not swimming one week, a signed note explaining why they are not swimming needs to be sent in to
their classroom teacher.

Dream Cricket Dream Cricket was an inspirational day that allowed students with special needs to engage with a variety of sporting
games, helping to develop their skills and confidence in a supportive and inclusive setting. We travelled by bus to
Dubbo, which included some lovely singing from students. Our favourite games were batting and bowling in front of
the sticky wicket keeper. We all participated with great enthusiasm and were rewarded for our efforts with a public
presentation, where we received a shiny gold medal. We would love to acknowledge and thank the Rotarians who
organised a fabulous event.
