Introduction• Here you will be learning about blood. Yes! You heard me correctly

blood.

• I will teach you all I know about blood types, blood disorders, and the HEART!

• You will also learn about blood transfusions, donated blood, and the cardiovascular system.

Blood Types • The blood types are A, B, AB, and O.• The letters are representing chemical markers that are on the surface of the red blood cells.• Type A has one marker.• B has another.• AB has both.• O has neither A nor B.

The red blood cells

• The heart plays probably the biggest role in where the blood goes.• Lets start from the lungs.• The red blood cells start at the lungs. They exit and go to the left atrium. Then they go into the left ventricle. They exit through the aorta and go to all parts of the body.• After you would expect them to go straight back to the lungs, but they go to the right atrium into the right ventricle and finally back to the lungs.• The cycle then starts again.

Blood Disorders• Anemia: Low amount of red blood cells.• Iron-Deficiency Anemia: Low amount of iron.• Aplastic Anemia: Bone marrow isn't producing enough blood cells.• Autoimmune hemolytic anemia: The immune system overreacts and destroys the body’s own red blood cells.

Blood Transfusions• Blood Transfusions are a good idea.• You could save someone's life.• This will usually occur when someone lost their blood cells and need them replaced.• It’s also good to get a transfusion when you’re an anemic patient who needs to increase their blood count.

Donated Blood •When donating blood it is important to know these facts:• Platelet Pheresis: Many people are saved from getting

this.• You need platelets to make blood clots and that stops

your bleeding, without them you could bleed to death. Many people are saved from death by our modern medicine and transfusions of platelets.

THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM! • Blood is a very important part of the cardiovascular system.• Blood has hemoglobin in it and that contains iron which binds to oxygen, turning the blood a red color.• Blood carries oxygen to the rest of the body. • Blood also carries carbon dioxide to the lungs to be exhaled and then breathe in oxygen and the cycle continues.• Blood goes (starting from the lungs) to the left atrium, into the left ventricle.• Next it goes to the aorta which then carries oxygen to the rest of the body.• After that it goes to the right atrium, into the right ventricle with carbon dioxide, and finally to the lungs.

Blood’s Job• The blood’s job is pretty simple.• It brings oxygen to the body.• It brings carbon dioxide to the lungs.• Occasionally blood starts flowing out of a scrape or hole in the skin from someone getting hurt.• Then red blood cells help reinforce the hole and help keep the blood going around the body instead of out of it.

Conclusion• Blood is a very important thing to have.•Without it you could:• Suffocate because of not getting oxygen and having a bunch of carbon dioxide in the body,• Bleed to death next time you get a cut,• E.tc.
