Hi gang, I decided instead of a lot of text I would send the above Christmas card. I will give you a lot of text next month, hi hi

u The 2015 Kansas QSO Party preliminary results are out one day after logs were due. This year we had 316 logs (52,588 QSOs) which beat our 2014 record of 275 logs. Once again, John/n6mu completed the Kansas Sweep of 105 counties, and he got 104 of them already on Saturday! We had 44 1x1 calls on the air including 16 mobiles. Final results will be out in about a week. Look for 2015 Results on the KSQP web site: http://www.ksqsoparty.org/. 73, Bob, w0bhKSQP Coordinator

u Now, "Clarity on Parity" -- the Video! In August, the ARRL acted to address objections and concerns being raised by representatives of community and neighborhood associations regarding the Amateur Radio Parity Act of 2015 -- H.R. 1301 and S. 1685. "Clarity on Amateur Radio Parity" made it clear that the bill would not create new federal policy with respect to outdoor amateur antennas, nor would it require homeowners associations to approve huge radio towers. Now, anew video -- "The Amateur Radio Parity Act of 2015 -- Separating Fact from Fiction" -- doubles down on the arguments contained in the League's August statement. ARRL President Kay Craigie, N3KN, said the video will be made available on Capitol Hill to make sure that Members of Congress have correct information, instead of misrepresentations.

The McPherson Co. ARES group was activiated by Emergency Management from Dec 2-5 as a result of the damage from an ice storm in the area. A bank of phone numbers were assigned to the Emergency Comm. Center and we helped take request for assistance for tree/debris removal in the area. We also relayed these request by VHF repeater to a church where crews were being dispatched to assist the public. Paperwork was also shuttled to the dispatch site for adminstrative needs. A total of 40 man hours were spent working costly withEM and all systems functioned well. The following ARES members took part in this operation: WX0RG Marion Co. EC

u 1936 Chevy......................Notice no body wood. 1935 was the first year for all steel bodies with full roof shells instead of the chicken wire and canvas roofs. Whoever choreographed this with the music did a pretty good job. This was 77 years ago. This is some good footage from a long time ago. Really interesting. I wasn't aware they had robotic welders in 1936! Amazing - these people actually worked to earn a living. None of them were overweight either. This was state of the art at one time........................... 1936 Chevrolet Assembly Line Interesting stuff For car buffs This is an amazing video !! 1936 Chevrolet Assembly Line This is really awesome footage. A 1936 Chevrolet assembly factory.. Note the automation that was already in place, the workers lack of any and all modern safety equipment, glasses and helmets, and they ALL know exactly what to do and it's getting done. Note also that when the body comes together with the chassis that it isin FULL trim, Interior, windshield, all glass etc. is already in place as it is dropped onto the awaiting rolling chassis, "AMAZING". Simplicity at its best. Note that while the metal finishers are checking the sheet metal for minute and tiny flaws and defects that they are wearing heavy leather work gloves. How would YOU like that repetitious job of placing 3 rivets in the 3 holes on the chassis for about 35 to 40 years?

=========================

Hi Ron, I know I replied to this but it keeps popping up and I can't find it in my "sent" file so........ The Kansas Amateur Radio newsletter, KAR was origionaly a paper magazine originated by Ken Blair KCØGL in Lawrence, Ks. He retired from being a printer and so did KAR. He and his XYL are enjoying retirement and serving his Club. Later, I put KAR out on packet and it got all the way across Ks because one ham made it possable with his $ and nodes. It got TOOOOO expensive for just him and so he had to pull all nodes. Don't ask the next question???? When the Internet got going I sent it out to who ever wanted it. Than Kent KBØKWI in Newton gave me space on his server and you can read or down load it at http://ksarrl.org TUuuuuu, Kent. KAR is the voice of Ks hams who have some text and photos to share with ALL hams. TU 4 asking Ron and enjoy KAR. Orlan wØoyh, kar ed.

u Orlan,Please add me [email protected] to the Kansas ham radio news and call on me anytime I can help you.

Thank you & 73

u Of interest to radio amateurs concerning satellite communications:

An American satellite, abandoned in 1967 as a piece of Space Junk has begun transmitting again after 46 years.

It is likely that the on board batteries have now disintegrated and some other component failure has caused the transmitter on 237Mhz, to start up when its in sunlight.

Listening to the signal you can easily imagine the craft tumbling over and over every 4 seconds and the transmitter starting up as the sun rises. He refers to the hobby as ‘Radio-Archeology’!More info may be found here... u I was recently given one of these (had one before), and after new rechareable batteries (Gate X cells - now called "Cyclon"), and a generous amount of DeOxIT and "exercise" of the switches and controls, it works again. Sweep is still in calibration and vertical sensitivity was very close. I remember when they first appeared at BA in KC, in 1972. Not sure how many they sold, but NLS is still in business and only stopped making them about 10 years ago.. due ONLY because they couldn't get the CRTs anymore. Based on the Chinese competition with LCD hand-held scopes for relative "pennies", it didn't make sense for them to redesign it. I might make a modulation monitor, using it. TC

u Subject: Re: It'za goin' now...

Checking the tubes on the Heathkit RX-1 "Mohawk" (I was given), I found that it used two 6CS6 tubes for 1st. & 2nd. Mixers (it's a pentagrid converter)... one of 'em was bad, the other had a 6BE6 in the "hole"... just for grins, Ichecked out the tube manual, and they're identical.. same pinout, same specs, same plate & supressor dissipation.. kinda explains why it was in there, so if you ever run across this tube, know that you can directly suba 6BE6 for it, as the original type is sorta rare.

u http://www.cowardstereoview.com/analog/philbrick.htmThese were the ORIGINAL.. and I mean ORIGINAL... "operational amplifiers", that made digital computers a REALITY. The average op-amp these days is nearly microscopic, and numbers in the thousands, on a tiny "chip"... of course we all remember the 741 series of Dip-14 chips, but these guys were the building blocks of what we know today.

I have (3) of the K2-P models.. , 1 is comple with tube, module, AND original box w/spec sheet, 1 is complete with tube and module, and 1 is just the molded unit. They use a 12AX7 tube as the logic element (9-pin tube socket), and I'm not sure what's contained within the plug-in "Airpax A-175" which goes into a standard 7-pin tube socket.

Haven't made my mind up yet, but think the complete unit, w/box, spec sheet, & packing should be worth a pretty penny to a collector on "E bite".

(These came in a couple of boxes of tubes that were given to me; they came with a Hickock 539C tube-tester I got)

u When we moved here, Kat' had an "entertainment center", which I didn't see the use in keeping, but she got it here, anyway. Well, I just put up several shelves to hold my electronic parts, tubes, and such.. and she suggested I might use the E/C to "display" my restorals.... so, taking it partially apart to remove partitions (where they'd be in the way), I wrestled with the SOB, but finally got it together again.. so - HB Wadley-Loop Receiver HB speaker w/Drake 2B receiver SWAN 350 w/matching PS-Speaker Heathkit SA-2060 tunerw/ matching SWAN SWR meter Palomar 500 SWR meter Heathkit IO-10 modulation monitor
