CASE STUDY

In October 2016, Bollore Industrial Projects France entrusted Intermarine with the transportation of a total of four truss frames and approximately 20 x 40 ft. OT SOC from Singapore and Bintan in addition to six stand-towers from Tarragona, Spain, – to Porto Amboim, Angola. All cargoes were moved on the “direct sailing” basis and the trusses were loaded on ships with a service speed of +16kn - in order to cope with urgent need of the cargo in Angola.

“ When entrusting this project of four critical ship-ments to Intermarine for the KAOMBO Project, we were aiming to rely on Intermarine's abilities to cope with all parameters prevailing in the projects world: tight budget, tense planning, high technical skills required, permanent change of plans, and dedicated teams.

We created a strong sense of teamwork with Interma-rine to serve our client's interests, in all respects, with the highest quality standards.

Bollore Industrial Projects France and our final custom-er TechnipFMC were fully satisfied of the job done:

Intermarine’s performance exceeded our client’s high expectations.

Great vessels, educated and hard-working crews, cooperative Masters and Chief Officers, creative Port Captains, Operations Teams serving at all stages and times... What else can a customer ask for? “Olivier Dupart – Bollore Industrial Projects Europe

INTERMARINE CASE STUDY: KAOMBO PROJECT

CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS

CRANE OUTREACH

The length of the truss (78.19m) would not allow loading from portside. The truss would not fit in between cranes, so loading from the starboard side was required.

Within a short period of time we positioned three suitable vessels with the necessary crane outreach to accomplish the task.

HEAVY WEATHER AND LARGE SWELLS

Large swells at Porto Amboim made discharge difficult during the tandem lift.

Staff kept on eye on the weather reports to plan for cargo movement during swell ceasing periods. We noticed that swells increased daily at noon, ceasing by nighttime.

The ship was slightly listed at one side with maximum free room available as to minimize the risk of the cargo hitting obstacles on the opposite side. An increased number of stronger tug lines were controlled by the crew to minimize cargo movements. Additional shore facilities were used by request.

We successfully discharged the first truss frame by using lashing belts for stabilization and wooden mats ashore, instead of planned SPMTs, allowing faster landing.

We were forced to offload the other three truss frames directly onto SPMTs, still without any delays from our end.

A-FRAME STANCHIONS

As soon as we received the revised stopper requirement, the designated port captain picked up the phone and placed an order for custom made a-frame stanchions.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISESAFE DISCHARGE

With the assistance of local tugs and two forklifts we were able to better manage the cargo and succeeded in carrying out a safe discharge as planned.

A skilled Intermarine Port Captain was present at all ports ensuring safe and efficient loading and discharging.
