As indicated last term once the Facebook page is up and running effectively we will be transitioning to a fortnightly newsletter. We will notify everyone before the new fortnightly cycle begins.

Loller Children Feature on TV On Thursday 27th July, the Loller children had a wonderful experience featuring on the Channel Eleven Science Program, Scope. Please click on the link below to view the footage or if you have the tenplay app, search Scope Season 4 Episode 6. https://tenplay.com.au/channel-eleven/scope/season-4/episode-6 This is a great program for school age children to expose them to a wide variety of scientific concepts and this particular program featured the Loller children talking about Agriculture.

Woolworths Earn & Learn We are excited to be taking part in the 2017 Woolworths Earn & Learn program.

During the previous campaign, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned, thanks to you.

From Wednesday 26th July to Tuesday 19th September2017, you can collect stickers at Woolworths that go towards Earn & Learn points. For every $10 you spend at Woolworths (excluding the purchase of tobacco, liquor and gift cards), you will receive a sticker. These stickers can then be given to your children to collect on a special sticker card. These are available at school or on the website woolworths.com.au/earnandlearn.

Once it is completed, they can simply bring it back here to school or you can drop them into your local Woolworths collection box.

The more points we earn, the more we can redeem from a choice of over 10,000 educational resources including mathematics and English resources, art & crafts materials and much, much more!

We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program. If you have any questions, please ask at School.

Reception/Year One Update Written by Julie Boughen We had a great week one, once we all got back into the swing of the school routine. We began new topics in History, Science and The Technologies.

Within The Technologies this term we are dividing into two groups and over two week periods both groups will experience Design and Tech tasks and Digital Tech activities. Last week and this week the children will make a lizard mainly out of paper plates. It will be like a pressure test from Master Chef. They will have the prototype to refer to and they have to make it all by themselves. Although it is good to have the end product looking as close to the prototype as possible, the process is most important. Later this term we will extend this to

creatively designing and making their own product. Meanwhile the other group will rotate through a coding board game, designing your own playground kit and use an electrical kit. Within Science we began an ‘On the Move’ Science Connections topic. The first lesson involved observing partners moving while playing Musical Statues, Simon Says and the Mirror game. Some involvement in discussion and questioning also occurred. This was a great way to begin a topic with young students who love to be on the move. During History we looked at what the study of History would be about and many of the Year Ones could remember what we had studied with Miss Boughen during 2016. We will be studying History during terms 3 and 4. We studied Geography in terms 1 and 2. We talked about the terminologies past, present and future and made up a movement game together to try and help us remember one from another. We will revisit this from time to time. We also brainstormed some events that our families, community and country celebrate that are historically significant and why all people do not celebrate all events we mentioned. This is to be continued.

In Maths we began studying time, which is a much broader topic than just learning to tell the time. Last week we made a list of different amounts of time, beginning with a century and ending with a second. We played some games to help us gain awareness of the length of a minute and a second. The Receptions did some work on Days of the Week and the Ones matched analogue, digital and written time words in a game for O’clock.

Just a reminder to return your photo forms to school before Thursday, as school photo day is this Thursday the 3rd of August.

KAS’s Handy Work Over the last term I worked on all students tracing and cutting out one hand from Preschool to Year 12. I also included ALL staff. This amounted to just under 200 hands – WOW that’s a few!! They are displayed in the secondary building, starting at Jaslyn’s office and continuing down the corridor. As I was searching for ‘handy’ quotes, I came across one that I would like to think we can instil in our young people. ‘You have two hands, one to help yourself, the second to help others’ Sometimes, this world can make us selfish and self-centered and we just need to remember that the small things we do can add value to someone else’s day. Not everyone is like this though. So start today by opening a door for someone, asking how they are, and just giving a smile. It can be that easy! Enjoy your week!
