Katherine News – Tanea Rudder

Thursday was a good night for all, covering a few more modules briefly just as

an overview of what had already been done throughout the year. One of my

first training nights I attended in Katherine was with Geoff Lohmeyer where

we covered invenomation. I found Geoff’s training very interesting, however I

have always had trouble remembering what marine stings gets treated with

what treatment. I’m sure

there are many others in this

boat with me, so I decided to

do a bit of research for

myself and create some

posters as a teaching aid for

the benefit of our members

in Katherine.

Thursday night we covered

this topic again with Christine

Sutherland one of our

accredited assessors. With a

quiz that Christine had made

that night by copying the

table (in the back of our re

accreditation book) and

cutting it up to make a

puzzle, we firstly had to put the puzzle back together and then looking at the

posters to see where we had gone wrong.

In making these posters I was able to remember the right treatments for each

envenomation as I had learnt by making the posters. Learning is different for

everyone, it is all very individual, and that was my way of learning. It might be

your way of learning, if you are a person who finds you learn from visual aids

then make something similar for yourself. More than just you will benefit

from them, your division will as well!

Procession. Thank you to our Colour Party Members Dean Franklin, Simon Spillett and Pat Murray for doing such a great job. A lovely morning tea was held after the service so members of St John could meet members of the church congregation.

It was a big weekend and I would like to give a special thanks to all the members who travelled from other centres to attend –

Paul, Glen, Geoff and Joylene from Alice Springs, Sam and Darrin from Tennant Creek and Geoff and Lenaire from Katherine. It was also great to see long time Katherine members Brian and Margaret Carnegie-Smith flying up from Adelaide especially for the weekend. We would also like to give a special thanks to our National CEO, Peter LeCornu for coming up for the weekend.
