Space Planning and Programming, Project Architect/ Coordinator, Design Architect, committed to this project for three years from initial concepts and presentations through construction. This Medical Office Building housed many of the outpatient departments of the hospital as well as physician office space. Patient services included: the Breast Center, Outpatient Surgery, Outpatient Radiology, Laboratory Services, Registration, Pre-admission Testing, The Heart Center, a retail pharmacy and uniform shop. This project was a three year commitment from planning through construction. The project concept tied the Deco interior of the historic portion of the facility to the new addition. (320,000 square feet of new construction and renovation of connecting atrium space)

Design Architect , Planner and Programmer for a new rehabilitation center to shelter ten women in their journey from drug addiction and prostitution to recovery. Ms. Johnson interviewed the director and women in the program, as well as the chief donor, to develop a design which blended with the nearby residences but reflected the sense of safety and healing of a sanctuary. The cost of the 4500 square foot freestanding project was $500,000.

HCA St. David’s Medical Center Vertical Bed Tower Addition-Austin, Texas

This project is a vertical addition of three floors to an existing patient tower. The existing entry is a well composed articulation on an otherwise simple, modern building. The three floor addition gestures to the entry vocabulary and will serve as a crown to the existing modernist simplicity. (73,000 square feet new construction and 34,000 of renovations)

This project is an addition of a new entrance with a two story lobby as well as a three story patient tower which will accommodate three future floors. Each floor connects to the adjacent medical office building. The project includes renovations and new construction adjacent to and above existing space, which required the project to accommodate multiple phases of construction in order to minimize disruptions to hospital functions. (95,500 square feet of new construction and 40,000 square feet of renovations)

HCA Rapids Medical Center- Alexandria, Louisiana-

This project was the rebranding of the Women’s and Children’s Medical Center on an existing campus. The client requested a new façade and finish upgrades for the dated facility. The interior renovation of the atrium was extensive with the addition of wood panels, new flooring, hanging mobiles, new elevator finishes, and new handrails at all stairs and balconies. A bright modern palette that would appeal to the clientele creates an atmosphere that is both high-tech and cheerful. The budget for the new entrance and façade would not allow structural changes, so the façade was changed with the addition of a four story transparent screen wall structure which was highlighted with graphics. The entrance was updated with the addition of simple forms and the addition of a new glass canopy.

During the planning process of this project, the team presented two concepts. One concept was a new replacement hospital on the site, and the second concept was a large addition. Both concepts will redefine the existing campus with a modern southern vernacular.
