FROM THE DIRECTOR This spring is going to be an exciting one for Bexley Public Library. In April, we will join the Central Library Consortium (CLC), a resource-sharing collective of 14 member libraries throughout Central Ohio. Membership in the CLC provides our patrons with access to nearly 4 million items through Bexley Public Library’s online catalog, all of which can be delivered right here to BPL. One great feature is that Bexley Public Library patrons will automatically go to the top of the reserve list for any item that is owned by Bexley Public Library before it is lent to patrons of other libraries. We are excited to share that this change also means an upgrade to our online catalog, with improvements ranging from text-message notifications to the ability to pay fines online.

In order to prepare for these changes, and thanks to a generous gift from the estate of Marilyn K. Limbird, we will also be able to update the library’s front lobby and circulation areas. Be on the lookout for new self-checkout stations, a larger community information area, self-serve reserve pickup, a library card sign-up station, and a new desk for your favorite staff members. Don’t worry: library staff will still be available to assist you with your accounts and materials.

These upgrades will not distract us from providing a wide variety of services and programs this quarter. A few highlights for adults: Our “WordPress Workshop”, taught by local expert Keith Luscher, is back by popular demand on March 18 and May 13; Dr. Koritha Mitchell, Associate Professor of English at The Ohio State University, will discuss her groundbreaking book Living with Lynching: African American Lynching Plays, Performance, and Citizenship, 1890-1930 on April 23; and beloved musicians Arkadiy & Friends return to the library to perform “Tangos from Around the World” at our Tea @ Three concert on May 18. For more about our packed spring quarter, including many programs for kids, parents, and families, just look inside our Program Guide. I look forward to seeing you in the library.
