PATRON EVENT JANUARY 18 TH 2014 The decorations transformed the Skylight Room into an African Adventure. Good food throughout the evening added to the buzzing conversations of friends sharing stories of Kenya and thanking God for His faithfulness. While Herb was not feeling well enough to attend, we were blessed to have Virginia join us and share some of her thoughts. Jim Whiteman presided and asked Virginia to say a few words. She shared about her first trip to Africa saying that her first and primary reason was to see the animals. It wasn’t long before God touched their hearts as they provided food and chatted with the street children. As the story goes, they went back to the USA and continued supporting the Pastor in his work with these street children. He soon died, which necessitated the opening of their first orphanage. Other speakers were Board members, Randy Nickel and Everett Jones. In addition a representative from The East African Committee from Cleveland also spoke and presented a check to MTTF. A short video featuring the history of MTTF and an interview with Herb and Virginia was shared with the patrons. A major highlight of the event was the presentation of a special quilt that was created specifically to honor Herb and Virginia. The squares contained messages from each of the 90+ orphans MTTF cares for from Kakamega and Oyugis. Their messages and pictures were such a wonderful encouragement. Thanks to the Whitman’s for organizing the many children who wrote and/or drew artwork on each square during their trip to Kenya in November of 2013. Many thanks also to Forest City who donated the venue, the many donors, organizers, decorators and those who cleaned up and made this possible. Thanks especially to those patrons who attended and make the work of MTTF possible. As many of the children that Herb and Virginia brought to the orphanage many years ago grow up and enter high school, MTTF education costs continue to rise significantly. Your financial gifts are needed and appreciated now more than ever. Donations can be given directly through Paypal @ www.missiontothefatherless.org Mission to the Fatherless, P.O. Michael is an energetic child from Oyugis. He just qualified for High School and will be starting soon. He plans to study hard and dreams of a career in law. Michael joined the Oyugis home in 2007 after his father died of AIDS. His grandmother was caring for him as his mother and her co-wife were ill with HIV /AIDS. Every year the Oyugis and Kakamega homes have a soccer match as a time of fellowship between the two homes. Michael is a key player for the Oyugis

team, the Black Mambas, and says he will lead them to victory this year. He would like to thank the sponsors for his new home, saying that this is a very exciting time for the Oyugis family. Michael says that he is praying that God would bless the sponsors, their work, and also their family. Michael is a loving, friendly child who has overcome so much and is a testimony to God’s working in his life.
