jediný zachovalý hrad na Spiši. Je dominantou podtatranského mesta Kežmarok a je súčasťou centra mesta. Hradný komplex mestského typu vznikol za účelom obrany mesta v roku 1463.

Kezmarok castle is the only preserved castle in the Spiš region. It is a landmark of Kezmarok and castle is a part of center of town. The castle complex urban type was created for defense of the town in 1463.

Prestavby RebuildingNajstaršia podoba hradu,

ktorú mu dali Imrich a Ján Zápoľskí, bola gotická. Súčasnú prevažne renesančnú podobu Kežmarský hrad nadobudol po rozsiahlej viacetapovej prestavbe v rokoch 1572 až 1624. Posledné prestavby hradu zabezpečili Thökölyovci aby premenili pôvodne obranný hrad na reprezentačné rodinné sídlo.

Laská, ktorá sa v roku 1565 vydala na výlet do neďalekých Snežných hôr – Tatier. Keď sa kňažná o tri dni vrátila od Zeleného plesa domov, rozhnevaný manžel hradný pán Albert Laský ju za trest uvrhol do hradnej veže, kde ju v drsných podmienkach väznil dlhých šesť rokov. Jediným milosrdenstvom pre nešťastnú kňažnú boli dve malé okná, jedno s výhľadom na milované Snežné hory a druhé na podávanie jedla.
