[ Anointed One ] Do WE really know what that means?
QUESTION: "What does Messiah mean?“Answer: Messiah comes from the Hebrew word mashiach and means “anointed one” or “chosen one.”
The Greek equivalent is the word Christos or, in English, Christ. The name “Jesus Christ” is the same as “Jesus the Messiah.”
In biblical times, anointing someone with oil was a sign that God was consecrating or setting apart that person for a particular role. Thus,
an “anointed one” was someone with a special, God-ordained purpose.
Messiah – Mentions in our Bible
John 1:41 He first sought out and found his own brother Simon and said to him,
We have found (discovered) the Messiah! — which translated is the Christ (the
Anointed One). [AMP]
John 4:25 The woman said to Him, I know that Messiah is coming, He Who is called the Christ (the Anointed One); and when He arrives, He will tell us everything we need to know and make it clear to us.

MESSIAH: 502 in ‘Complete Jewish Bible’CHRIST: 530 mentions of ‘Christ’ in ‘NIV’
There are over
350 prophesies in
the Old Testament that are fulfilled by
Jesus Christ
THE CHURCH A work in progress!
All of our foundations are different – so how
does that affect the building?
It was not like that for the Disciples.
They were all on the same page.
They came from the same background.
They had all learnt the same things throughout their lives.
They knew the O.T.They were LIVING the N.T.
They knew how the things that Jesus was doing linked into the
O.T.
Mark 8:27-29 27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"28 They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets."29 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ.“
[NIV]
Matthew 16:15-18 15 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."17 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. ...” [NIV]
Matt 16:16-20 16 Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 Then Jesus answered him, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are you, Simon Bar-Jonah. For flesh and blood [men] have not revealed this to you, but My Father Who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter [Greek, Petros — a large piece of rock], and on this rock [Greek, petra — a huge rock like Gibraltar] (the TRUTH that He is the MESSIAH) I will build My church, and the gates of Hades (the powers of the infernal region) shall not overpower it [or be strong to its detriment or hold out against it]. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose (declare lawful) on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven20 Then He sternly and strictly charged and warned the disciples to tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ. [AMP]
So if the disciples understanding that
Jesus ‘is the MESSIAH’ is the“rock I will build my church”,
that knowing Jesus is the Messiah
is the foundation stone of their faith:
What ‘understanding’ is our faith built on, what is our
Church built onDo we need a better/fuller
understanding of what Messiah means?
Do we need to know what the Disciples expected?
JESUS MESSIAH
Is the ‘Foundation Stone’ of the Disciples’ faith.
It should to be ours too.
The Disciples knew!
They understood the concept.
They understood its meaning.
They understood how it impacted on THEM.
Do WE? Do YOU?
What is a ‘Disciple’?
A disciple is a follower and student of a mentor, teacher, or other figure.
Jesus’ disciples spent their time
learning to be ‘LIKE’ Jesus.
When you take the trouble to learn how to do something, for example, learn to speak French;
or learn how to maintain your car. At the end of the training period you would have an expectation of being able to do the
thing that you had taken the time to study how to do?
SO: What did the Disciples learn how to do from Jesus?
A P R A Y E R Dear Heavenly Father, Please help me to understand the FULLNESS of just WHO JESUS IS and to appreciate ALL that was achieved by Him - all that has been fulfilled in Him. Widen my understanding of the magnitude of all You accomplished by releasing your prophecies throughout the Word – for them all to come to completion in Him - and through this knowledge, help me to make the ROCK a firm foundation for my faith and for our Church.
In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
