What a week! Tonight is the first showing of our major production The Little Mermaid, with follow up performances tomorrow at 2.00pm and 7.00pm. As with any major undertaking the list of people to thank is never ending;

- The parents who helped with makeup, props and being there with helping hands before and on the night with hot food, makeup and support. - Melanie Phillips, Bronwynne Beaven and Ann Thomas for the amazing costumes. - Bruce Anink, Charlotte Campbell, Tony Stanton and Eve Reihana for the props and stage management. - To the performers and back stage helpers, the lighting and sound crew for such hard work and dedication. - Finally, to our very own North Canterbury legend Ms Katy Pakinga, musical director and the glue to hold everything together.

I cannot wait to see the show tonight!

There will be some door sales available for both Saturday shows - arrive early to ensure you get a seat.

Our Kapa Haka group once again represented our school with pride at the annual Area School’s Kapa Haka Festival on Tuesday in Rangiora. This group remains strong with new members always welcome.

The other major news this week was the pledge of $327,000 from the NZ Lotteries Commission to support our half turf development on the senior side of the school. When combined with support from Pub Charities, $20,000 the Rata Foundation $50,000 and significant funding from the Amuri Area School Board of Trustees we are delighted to say this project is now all GO!

More thanks must go to the turf committee consisting of Lou Mones-Cazon, Anna Armstrong, Blaise Davison and Jo McKenzie for having first the inspiration and then the passion to put together such a strong argument for this facility in our community. Great effort by Thea Mickell Services in securing the funding on our behalf.

I am delighted to announce two appointments this week to our admin team. Cath Petrie will be our sports co-ordinator supporting the organization and management of sporting opportunities both in and out of school. She will support Gavin Cate and Emily Shaw with this task.

Janine Jack will be joining us as our new receptionist as Lucy Newton heads away to landscape beautiful things. Janine comes to us with a wealth of administration experience and will be on board working alongside Lucy in the final week of term. Lucy has been a real asset to us covering what was originally a short term maternity position and she will be sorely missed.

Well deep breaths…..raise the curtain, and let the show begin!

Have a great weekend

Dear Parents and Whanau

This week we have had the Life Education Trust in school. Year 1-6 have been completing programmes based on the healthy eating learning they have been doing this term in Health with Mrs Jackson and Mrs Habgood. Many parents have said how fondly they remember Harold the Giraffe and the children were just as excited to see him, as always! Harold has moved into the digital world lately and now sports an interactive white board and software that allows children to explore the inner workings of their bodies.

P.T.A News:The Amuri PTA are holding our annual Rogaine on Sunday 8th July with Rotherham Home and School so we are calling for your help to support this event.

It was a great fundraiser for our school last year and we are working hard to be even bigger and better this time!

How you can help us: We need Pumpkin Soup and Baking!

(This needs to be delivered to school or Fiona Dwyer by 6th July).Any queries please contact Fiona on 0272602027.

Winter health tips - Thanks to Rhona our School Nurse.

#TIP 4.Try a New Form of Indoor Exercise

There will probably still be days during this time of year when you think it’s just “too cold” or “too rainy” to be outside, but you’re still looking for something to stimulate and strengthen your body. Don’t wait until the next year to start a new activity. Ask at the school office or look in the School Newsletter, The Peril or Waiau Citizen to see what is available. Currently there is Badminton, Squash and Basketball running over winter in the Amuri Area. Give it a go!

Miss Taylor is currently running a primary school talent quest on Wednesday’s at lunchtimes. We viewed our first week of talent yesterday and for the next two Wednesdays we will see two more shows. Thank you to Miss Taylor for her organising and to Miss McCulloch, Mr Hallaran and Ms Campbell for judging.

Assembly Roster for Term 222 June – Rm 4, 29 June – Rm 5, 6 July – Rm 1

These sometimes change due to unforeseen circumstances and will be advised on the school app.

Best wishes go to our participants in the school production. We hope to see everyone at one of the evening performances either tonight or Saturday or the Saturday afternoon matinee. To the cast, crew and director Katy, break a leg!
