Dear Member/s, I want to thank all of you who came in such large numbers to our Big Breakfast Morning. The event was a great social occasion and ensured that our Year of Celebrations had the best possible start. A special thanks to all the Brocagh members who attended and helped to create such a wonderful atmosphere. Looking ahead, I hope all the pupils of Laghey School enjoy working on their entries for our forthcoming competition. No doubt the judges will have a very difficult task. I would encourage you all to return to the Clubrooms on Monday 10th June when the GAA President will visit our club. This will be a very historic occasion. On Friday 28th June all golfing enthusiasts will converge on Dungannon Golf Club for our eagerly awaited Golf Classic. Later that evening, all of you are invited to attend the buffet and dance. Let us make this another memorable event. Yours sincerely, Terry Mc Shane Youth trip To close up the end of the Youth Club prior to the start of the football season a trip was organised by the club for our youth members for the Tyrone National League match against Dublin on the 16th March. The bus was full and everyone had a great day out helped considerably by a Tyrone victory. This follows the trend of previous organised trips by the club to Croke Park and every time we come back with the same successful outcome. Big Breakfast and Launch of Golden Jubilee On the 6th April the clubrooms were thronged with people from the local community and a number of invited guests from Brocagh our first opponents in 1964. This was an excellent start to our events and as well as enjoying a great breakfast served up by “Hot Stuff” details of the formation of the club and the first match were recounted by some of those involved. The day was rounded off with Killyman and Brocagh Under 14 league match with our lads coming out on the right side of the result. 107 Drumaspil Road, Dungannon, BT71 6HZ Issue 2 Apr 2013 Printing kindly sponsored by What’s been going on!! The Under 14’s are now well into their league fixtu res and to date have performed very well in a very competitive league. They have recorded victor ies over Brackaville, Brocagh and Aghaloo as well as playing out a hard earned draw in the home match against Eskra.

Feile

The Under14’s also took part in the Féile competiti on in Greencastle. They performed well against the hosts Greencastle and were narrowly defeated. In the Drumquin game they were piped by a point while in the final game Rock proved too stron g for them and the team was well beaten.

Go Games

The Go Games are now underway with Under 10 and Und er 8 competitions taking place on alternative weeks. These are great opportunities to bring on the young players and every attempt is being made to ensure that we participate in as m any of these as possible over the year. Our thanks to those who have helped with transportation over the last few weeks.

The Reserves had just one challenge game against St ewartstown and were well beaten. As always we never knew exactly who would turn up, how many players would turn up and how the team might perform for the start of the league. On all counts the Reserves surprised many with an excellent turnout of 21 players and an excellent performance by defeating Glenelly by 1.7 - 0.4.

The seniors finally kicked off their league campaig n on the 21st April with a home game against Glenelly. The team had shown a lot of good form in challenge games against Derry league teams and were optimistic of continuing this form into the league. This was a tough challenge and a goal by Michael Donnelly half way t hrough the second half created the space for the team to hold on to record a 1.11 - 0. 10 win. The next league match is planned for the 5th May against Drumquin.

In her 92nd year, I am pleased to report that Bridget Donnelly is in great spirits and still full of her usual jovial, happy and vibrant spirit. As usual, a cup of tea was produced and Bridget began to recount her move to Killyman and some of the challenges she faced when she arrived there.

The move from Pomeroy to Killyman is one which can only be described as swift. Bridget left her home in Pomeroy on a Monday morning without breathing a word of her impending marriage to Micky Donnelly, which was due to take place later that day.

It wasn’t until the following day, a Tuesday, that Bridget got on her bike and informed her father that she had married and had decided to move to Killyman where she would begin the next chapter of her life.

Bridget recounted the day she arrived in Killyman or to be more precise the “Holla”, where she lived beside her niece Mary Hughes. Bridget recalled the day she moved into the empty house, on which white wash was still being applied to the walls.

Although they didn’t have much, Bridget tells us herself and Micky made the best of what they had, even resulting to covering their second hand suite of furniture which she purchased from Ruby Hunter, with mail bags which she dyed herself.

Bridget looks back at her first home in Killyman, in which she raised seven children, with fond memories. She recalled how she gave birth to her children in this very home, in some cases among the chickens and pigs which Micky would bring into the kitchen during the winter months to provide some heat.

Although Bridget and Micky experienced many milestones and life changing moments in this home, they left the “Holla” in 1966 and moved to a new home in Drumcrow. Bridget tells us it was not a matter of simply moving into a brand new home, but rather she and Micky spent many days creating the bricks which would become their home for the foreseeable future. It was in this home Micky built Killyman’s first swimming pool in their back garden which provided their own children, as well as the local children with much laughter and craic. Bridget lived in this home until 1997, when she moved to her current home a few yards up the road.

Bridget is a staunch Killyman GFC supporter and was the rock behind Micky as he helped chair the club over many years through its initial set up, right until after the building of the community centre. She still continues to support the club, especially with her grand children Ryan McKenna, Declan and Conor Boyle, Michael, Sean and Eamonn Donnelly and her great grandchild Ciaran Boyle, playing at both senior and under age levels.
