Year 8 & 9 Boys - Tennis Champions of the South-East! The Year 8 & 9 Boys’ Tennis Team are now the top tennis team in the South East of England!! They played against Alleyn's and Twyford High School winning all their singles and doubles matches to win the competition. Huge congratulations to all the boys on a terrific perfor- mance. The team consisted of Mukhtar Andu, Luca Palazzi, Haroun Butt, Blaise Treverton and Jack Fellowes. The boys can look forward to more tennis later in the year. Well done! Tuesday 26th September was the European Day of Languages. To celebrate Kingsdale’s diverse student and staff body, different activities ran throughout the week. Portions of pupils’ lessons were taught in another language, registers were taken in multiple languages, and pupils searched the school on a Languages fact-finding mission. Questions included: “Where was the scientist Marie Curie from?” and “Find a person in the school who has the same name as the capital of Bulgaria”. On European Day of Languages itself, members of staff wore badges indicating which European and world languages they could speak. After success- fully completing the Quick-Fire Quiz asking pupils to track down members of staff who could speak specific languages, congratulations go to Hazel Blundell, Maria Korsell and Anaya Shah.

National Poetry Day – 28th September 2017 The Kingsdale English Department loves poetry. We live it and breathe it, and if necessary, we apply as as a healing balm to cuts and bruises. As such, National Poetry Day was a real treat for us. Across the school, junior English classes immersed themselves in projects centred on this year’s theme: Freedom. The results were intelligent, frequently funny, and often highly political. The most visually appealing poetry came from the Metro Projects, in which students cut up newspapers and reassembled words. They remixed the mainstream media in ways that were subversive, creative, and in many cases resembled Art School ransom notes fighting against politics and capitalism. The most eye-catching entries will be displayed on the walls around the Department in the coming weeks. Thanks to everyone who was involved in this exciting day!

House News On Thursday 28th September our Year 8 students had a wonderful experience with the Young Enterprise team.

Their task was to set up their own fictitious business. Each business had to be costed, given a brand name and have directors appointed including a business manager, financial and managing directors. Each group had to give a presentation based on how they would develop their business and how it would be promoted. In addition they had to come up with a slogan for the business, a logo and a design for a business uniform. These workshops were designed to encourage the students to develop their creative, communicative skills and teamwork approach to problem solving. We know that many of them will become leaders of a future society. They were thoroughly engaged and great ambassadors for the school. Well Done Year 8!
