Kingsgrove Cricket Club Yearbook 2015/2016 Page 3

Welcome to the Yearbook for 2015/2016 for Kingsgrove Cricket Club. Our 21st year of juniors and 36th of seniors saw continued strong registrations and we fielded a total of 21 teams - 15 junior competition teams, two non competition under 8s, two senior competition teams and an over 35 non competition seniors team. In total we had over 250 registered players. In addition, we continued our winter multicultural Milo In 2 Cricket Program with centres at Riverwood and Kingsgrove. A total of 60 participants aged between 5 and 12 from local schools provided the basis of further recruitment for our junior Saturday morning competition teams. On the field the club achieved unprecedented success. In total, 11 teams made the finals series, with five Minor Premierships, eight Grand Finalists, and four Premierships – 16A, 16B, 14A, and 12B Blue. KCC fielded a team in each of the two new Breakers League competitions for female cricketers. This CNSW initiative was designed to get more girls playing cricket by having a female only competition. For our girl players this replaced the Georges River competition. Congratulations to the under 15 team on reaching the Grand Final of their summer competition. Our 16As and 16Bs participated in an experimental mid week T20 evening competition, on turf and under lights at Cahill Park Tempe. While the Bs won their pool, weather and other factors outside the As’ control meant they did not get to play a game. The club once again entered teams in the Sydney wide junior winter competition. In total, five of our junior teams participated in this outdoor T20 competition, with the under 14A and under 10A teams winning premierships. This winter, we have five teams competing in the same competition. We are proud that the club retains its core values of being family focussed and investing in the development of its junior players. The Club’s strong financial position enables the management team to continue planning for the Club’s future with certainty. The highly successful school recruitment and development programs will continue in the off season. The Club’s playing depth was again highlighted with over 30 players achieving representative honours with Georges River St George Association. In addition, Matthew Iemma, Dilpreete Singh, Caleb Bartier and Ben Panayotopoulos were selected to play Green Shield for St.George. They were joined by Nivek Tanner who gained Green Shield selection with University of New South Wales and Shafique Nouree who was selected in Bankstown’s Green Shield squad. Congratulations to Ben Panayotopoulos who finished as one of the leading run scorers in Green Shield which saw him gain selection in the team of the tournament. Matthew Iemma, Eric Serra, and Ben Panayotopoulos achieved further Representative honours being selected in the under 15, under 14 and under 16 NSW Emerging Blues. Congratulations also to Clara Iemma who gained selection in the under 18 NSW Womens team and participated in several matches with the open age state Women’s team. Morris Iemma coached the Georges River St George under 14 representative team to win the Moore Shield and NSW Championship. Our teams proudly raised over $6,000 for Pink Stumps Day in support of the McGrath Foundation's awareness campaign. Several Kingsgrove teams established fund raising pages with the Foundation and organised morning teas, B.B.Qs and auctions at their matches in February. Special thanks to Kerryn Coldrey from the under 14Cs for her efforts in this area over the past three years. We are indebted to our loyal and generous sponsors whose support has been crucial in placing the Club in a strong financial position to fund our development programs and continue our general activities of providing cricketers with the opportunity to play and learn about cricket. In particular, KCC thanks PAYCE Communities, Lantern Club, Bulldogs Leagues Club, Club Rivers, Daltone House (Sylvania Waters), David Chambers Chartered Accountant, Hotel Macau/Tiger Bar Hurstville, Kingsgrove RSL, Mullanes Pharmacy Oatley, People Practices Australia, Ramsay Health Care, Sunnys Harbour Seafood Restaurant Hurstville. We would like to acknowledge the outstanding effort of the captains, coaches, managers and scorers in organising their sides. Without their contribution we could not field our teams. Thanks to the parents who do the transport of the players each week and provide other support to the teams and club.

We had many new volunteers coaching, managing, scoring and doing the many other tasks that enabled our teams to function smoothly on the field. These 'new recruits' and our existing network of volunteers and families are the Club's real strength and ensure that our players can pursue their passion for cricket. Special thanks to Bushy Pillay who oversaw coaching of many of our younger teams throughout the season, and coordinated our Milo Cricket program. This year saw our club management more involved at the Association level, with Morris Iemma becoming Vice President and Michael Venn Junior Competition Secretary. We believe it is important that our club is more active in the management of cricket in our area. This is more important since the proposed merger with the St Grade Club did not proceed. Thanks to the Association and the dedicated committee (especially Matt Boland and Danny Williams) for their continued promotion and management of cricket in our area. Everyone appreciates your level of commitment.

Throughout the season, the Association published on the MyCricket website all bowling achievements of two wickets and above and batting scores of 25 runs or more in an innings. Here we recognise four batsmen who produced five centuries, and twelve bowlers who produced 'michelles', which included three hat-tricks, and one double (four wickets in four balls) with one while playing in a higher grade. Take a moment to acknowledge these great individual efforts. BATTING ~ CENTURIES

Danny Ko: Best scorer in the association we appreciate you. Keep going with the leg spin, real talk you're the best spinner in the competition. Longest streak this year of not outs with the bat. Thanks for your humour and making everyone laugh. Rob ‘Pony’ James: Never has a long face always smiling and ready to party. Had a really good season with the ball and batted aggressively often scoring quick runs when we needed them the most. Rob McDowell: El captiano, best batsmen in the team and everyone nose it. Sometimes he communicates like scooby doo but he is a great leader and always plays with passion and effort. Thanks you Rob for everything you do always putting the team and the club first. Michael Moir: Scientific approach, opening batsman and consistent player. Good mid-off. Thank you for taking the kit most weeks and putting in scores. Peter Moir: Mystery opening bowler whoi spends a lot of time on the ground, as his ‘whiotes’ show each week. Andrew ‘AJ’ Morris: Best fielder in the team (the stats don't lie). Often the voice of reason during team discussions. Always positive. Did well with the ball and bat when given the opportunity. Craig Morris: Legend, funny stories made us laugh all year. Great addition to the team who did his best in the field and with the bat. Dale Phillips: Great enthusiasm, great person to have around the team. Best keeper in the comp up to the quicks, made so many opportunities. Great addition to top order took it to the opposition bowlers, fielders and umpires every time. Michael Phillips: If only we had him for the whole season it would have been a different story. Ran in all day, got a five -fa with a broken shoulder, big hitter with the bat and a brilliant fielder. Look forward to playing more cricket with you. Andrew Starks: Get on the beers the night before more often mate. Couldn’t ask for a better start to the season scoring 75 and having a game winning partnership with his brother. Went on holidays during the season and was missed. Great to have a discussion about cricket with. Thanks for organising many of the social events. Michael Starks: Captain of vice scoring all round the world this season, but his best work was done on the field with the bat. Had one of his best seasons. Funny man and lead the team well in Robert’s absence. Jake Talevski: The Prince, great bowler who did a lot of the heavy lifting during the middle of the innings. A good team man. Shout out to Jake’s grandmother for the Portuguese tarts. You the real MVP. Kyle Venn: Great allround player. Opened the bowling, batted middle order. Mr consistent. Fun to have around and a joke with. Also good for a blow up when he’s bowling - embrace the dark side. Thanks to everyone who helped out this year, including those who played up from lower grades. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all the juniors finishing this year to seriously consider playing seniors. Peter Moir ‘Acting’ Vice Captain

KCC’s third grade had an outstanding 2015/16 season. Everyone involved brought unique aspects reflecting in great team chemistry and ultimately a winning culture. We found ways to win, ways to have fun with Snake’s one hand fielding warning policy, and more importantly, ways to introduce The Dab brah! It was a slow start to the season losing the opening two rounds. We only grew in strength after those early round defeats, as our team character began to blossom with the introduction of our Facebook group chat, allowing us to stay in contact discussing tactics and more importantly a constant banter. Through this means of contact we were introduced nicknames that are not disappearing any time soon, and the boys are already itching for next season to avenge the rain affected Grand Final loss to our arch rivals ICC. Round 3: The formidable KCC went to Riverwood Park to play Beverly Hills Eagles. This was yet another toss that Raff “Golden Arm” Francone won seeing us bat first. The plan worked well in the first one-day game of the season as Matt “Fill In Skipper” Hanscombe played a sensational knock scoring 68 runs. This time in the field we had hustle and bustle, and a few butter fingers dropping catches, yet we hung on to ensure the first victory of the season thanks to some tight bowling from Jake “Snake” Redston. Matt “Fill In Skipper” Hanscombe top scorer with 68 runs. Jake “Snake” Redston best figures of 3/24. Round 4: KCC played host at Gardiner Park to the unpredictable Belmore Diggers. Bowling first we rolled Belmore for 74 in less than half the days play seeing us bat for the lead in the first day. It was the heroics of Alexander “Kimmy K (or Robbo)” Roberts that saw this feat with some blistering pace. Our first innings of 106

Page 13: KINGSGROVE CRICKET CLUB YEARBOOKkingsgrovecc.nsw.cricket.com.au/files/4113/files... · 2018-07-29 · Management Report Kingsgrove Cricket Club Yearbook 2015/2016 Page 3 Welcome to

gave us a 32 run lead to take into the second innings and second days play. Belmore’s opener gave them a glimmer of hope with 92 before Kimmy K got him. The chase of 144 and outright victory never looked in doubt, with Snake and Kimmy K establishing a crucial partnership in the middle order steadying the ship. Jake “Snake” Redston top scorer with 47 runs not out. Alexander “Kimmy K (or Robbo)” Roberts best figures of 5/25. Round 5: KCC went to Carss Park to play South Hurstville Cars Park. None of us have any complaints about travelling to this venue with the swimming pool shop seeing Mitch “BDM” Carey a frequent customer. Batting first saw a great opening partnership between the veterans of the team, Matt “Fill In Skipper” Handscome and Angelo “The Wanderer” Drakopolous, demolish their opening bowlers. We set South Hurstville 223 for victory where they stood no chance with the confident pace attack of the Third Grade Grovers. Another win to a team growing in confidence, registering our third win on the trot. Round 8: It was a round one replay against our arch rivals ICC at our preferred ground Gardiner Park. It was going to be a tough ask missing both openers, but we managed with Clint “Not As Good Kitchen” Kitchen and Angelo “The Wanderer” Drakopolous. A steady middle order established runs on the board thanks to Andrew “Better Kitchen” Kitchen top scoring with 63 runs as we totalled 164 for ICC to chase. We managed to roll ICC for a 115 as the formidable KCC dominated with ball in hand. Andrew “Better Kitchen” Kitchen top scorer with 63 runs. Jake “Snake” Redston 3/26. The “She’ll be right” Tribute – Round 13: It was the second last match regular of the season, which saw the formidable KCC play host to Ramsgate RSL at the glorious Gardiner Park. It was a game that had everything. From the get go we knew we would be chasing some runs on a lightning fast out field, as one of their openers reached 50. A long stand saw their second drop get 108no, largely, thanks to Clint “Not As Good Kitchen” Kitchen dropping a sitter off him on 85 at first slip, only using one hand (take note juniors….two hands always). We were chasing a mammoth total of 283 for victory, which a lot of us were sceptical about except for one; Jake “Snake” Redston who came up with the call of the season: “She’ll be right”. We used this call to climb the mental battle in this game and in the tougher games to come later in the season. Going into the second day of the match it was just as hot as the week before. This made for a tough day in the middle, but don’t worry, “She’ll be right”. And right she was. Losing Matt “Fill In Skipper” Hanscombe early it was a less than ideal start. Up stepped Liam “No-one Can Believe He Retired on 89* (Not even himself)” Mountford. He steadied the ship belting the bowlers to all parts of the ground. When Alexander “Kimmy K (Robbo)” Roberts walked to the crease controversy was ripe. A ball flicked off his pad that went straight down the keeper’s throat, which every opposition player was adamant was off his bat. It was team comradery that saw Liam “No-one Can Believe He Retired on 89* (Not even himself)” Mountford start sledging the opposition, backing up his mate in the middle before Alexander “Kimmy K (Robbo)” Roberts hit a cracking 6 which saw Ramsgate send out a search party for the ball in a not too delighted neighbour’s backyard. That shut them up. After that, Liam “No-one Can Believe He Retired on 89* (Not even himself)” Mountford retired on 89* due to commitments. Faisal Syed and Clint “Not As Good Kitchen” Kitchen secured the match, getting the team home. Liam “No-one Can Believe He Retired on 89* (Not even himself)” Mountford top scorer 89 not out. Clint “Not As Good Kitchen” Kitchen best figures with 4/86. Round 14: It was the last game of the regular season and Mitch “BDM” Carey was happy to be at Carss Park again to sample the pool canteen. Losing the toss for the fifth week in a row saw us bowl first which worked in our favour. It was tough day in the field which saw us have a hefty total of 188 to chase down, but it was nothing that we could not accomplish. Losing 3 quick wickets we were in a less then favourable position of 3/20. It was our determination and belief which saw Andrew “Better Kitchen” Kitchen score a remarkable 77 runs, steadying the ship with the middle order of Alexander “Kimmy K (Robbo)” Roberts and Jake “Snake” Redston to see us home as Minor Premiers. Andrew “Better Kitchen” Kitchen top scorer with 77 runs. Raff “Golden Arm” Francone best figures of 3/19. Semi-Final: The formidable KCC finished the regular season as Minor Premiers. It was first vs. second with KCC playing ICC at Peakhurst Park. Losing the toss for the sixth week in a row we were sent out to field. A great opening spell from “Kimmy K (Robbo)” and “Better Kitchen” enabled us to take our early chances placing pressure on the batting side having them 3/60 by drinks. To their credit ICC toughed it out and weathered the pace attack of “Kimmy K (Robbo)” and the extra bounce from “Better Kitchen”. Some excellent field positioning from Liam “No-one Can Believe He Retired on 89* (Not even himself)” Mountford made it tough for the opposition and together as a team we had them all out for 199. The second day saw the team tired having to back-up for the first time this season; it took its toll. Opening ball of our innings Matt “Fill In Skipper” Hanscombe edged one down first slips throat who dropped it worse than Ben Hunt in 2015 NRL Grand Final. Matt “Fill In Skipper” Hanscombe’s luck was gone soon after as we lost

him early to a direct hit from a rocket throw at deep square-leg with one stump to aim at. That saw the team on the back foot early at 1/3. Shehraiz “Big Bird” Awan stepped up and came out all guns blazing (nothing new). “Big Bird” had some early hitting sending the ball to the boundary a few time before skying an easy catch that was taken. We were now about 2/15 with a long way to go. Liam “No-one Can Believe He Retired on 89* (Not even himself)” Mountford was ready for a long day at the crease playing a tempered game before a calamitous mix up between the wickets saw him get run-out on 27. Up step Alexander “Kimmy K (Robbo)” Roberts who played a tremendous knock of 81. It was tough out in the middle as Clint “Not As Good Kitchen” Kitchen had a heated discussion with ICC out in the middle with a courageous 28. Unfortunately we came up short all out for 155 forcing us to play the next week against Beverly Hills Eagles. We knew however that we would be back facing ICC in the Grand Final. Grand Final: It was D-Day. The day we as the formidable KCC had been waiting for against our arch rivals ICC. We were down Raff “Golden Arm” Francone our skipper thanks to a tertiary commitment (what university puts exams on Grand Finals I will never know) but he had the cool, calm experienced head of Matt “Fill In Skipper” Hanscombe to guide the team to what we thought was a certain victory. We went out to bowl first which looked to be the right decision. It didn’t take long before the sledging came out as we sprayed the opposition. It was thanks to Matt “Fill In Skipper” Hanscombe’s choice to bowl Shehraiz “Big Bird” Awan that saw us get two crucial break throughs. After that Alexander “Kimmy K (Robbo)” Roberts took the final wickets ending with a 5 wicket haul which cleaned up the dangerous tail of ICC, limiting them to 152. It was a target we were confident of getting. Michel “Panther Jr.” Vitale also took 2 more catches to bring his season tally to an unbeatable 22, proving to be the best keeper in the competition. We had the innings wrapped up a little too early, which forced us to play out the final hour of the day’s play. Shehraiz “Big Bird” Awan made a calamitous call between the wickets which saw Matt “Fill In Skipper” Hanscombe run out. The following ball “Big Bird” was judged lbw and we were 3/9. Never fear because Andrew “better Kitchen” Kitchen and Alexander “Kimmy K (Robbo)” Roberts were there in the middle. They saw out the days play in which we needed 3/12. It wasn’t long before runs stated to flow. Then ICC got a breakthough seeing Andrew “Better Kitchen” Kitchen bowled for 5. We were 4/19. Next in was the tenacious Angelo “The Wanderer” Drakopolous who went out from ball one hitting a crucial boundary before being controversially caught for 12. It was up to the usual suspects of our middle order Jake “snake” Redston and Alexander “Kimmy K (Robbo)” Roberts; the two partners in crime. “Snake” was playing some big shots forcing ICC to change the field. On 5/84 the rain set in. It was a grim sight with the umpires determining that we had to wait an hour to go back on. We never did as the rain stayed. We would have won if it had not been that the additional overs we received the day before, with the match calculated our run-rate. Ultimately the gods did not favour us and we lost in a rain affected match on run rate. Bugger. It was a great season and we are all looking forward to avenging last season’s result to favour us because: “We are Grovers we’re true blue! We’re the Minor Premiers through and through!” “The opposition thought we’d go down but we went the other way! We went UP UP UP UP UP!!!!” Take care lads and remember; always Dab brah! The team started the competition in the R3 round due to forming late. We started well winning our first three out of four games, but then we only won one out of our last eight matches due to key players being overseas, work and injuries. Hence we had to call up a fair amount of junior players to fill in for the rest of the season who were performing very well and were standing out against older opposition leading us to finish in 5th spot overall. Our season highlight was defeating 2nd placed PWS White. Defending only 120 runs in a 37 over ruthless batting display, we all came together to bowl them out for 92. A great team effort. There were strong batting performances from Moiz, Tanzeel, Kushal and Adrian but none came close to our Tank, Bashir, with his Monstrous Hitting Power, pounding the ball over the bowler's head into his car against Penshurst. Moreover, in the bowling our main wicket takers were Kushal, Imran, Syed, Bashir and Muhammed with a fine performance of 6/18 against ICC in R11. The wicketkeepers included Momin, Saleh and Moiz who were very neat and tidy behind the stumps. In the field Akkash, Chris and Adrian always gave 100 percent effort and so did Saleh for always keeping us entertained every week. I would Personally like to thanks Kushal for Captaining the side, all the under 16 boys for coming down and helping us and finally Moiz for always helping me get the boys so we can fill up a competitive team each week Frank Natoli 5th Grade

Over 35's

Our season was disrupted a bit by some wet weather and diminishing player numbers. Despite this we had great fun on and off the field. If our bodies hold up over winter we’ll do it all again next season. If you’re over 35 and interested in a game of cricket one Sunday a month through the season you’re most welcome to join us (speak to Michael Venn). It’s lots of fun, and plenty of laughs. After the game we have a few beers and we’re the only team in the competition with a BBQ and cook! Until next year. The 13th Man

This team came together at season start as a mix of Mortdale Heights and Kingsgrove players, mainly in their 2nd year of under 16s. In fact most played against and knew each other in the previous season's grand final. However will confine my comments to the KCC boys for this report. A good mix of talent and characters, resulted in a great team spirit with the boys quickly moulding in to a fine unit playing the in the right competitive spirit. Joint Captains were elected, with Matt Ferrier from Mortdale and Tristan Shrestha of Kingsgrove leading the team both on and off the field throughout the season. Your erstwhile manager needing to do little on the field other than umpire and count balls as the boys ran the show. Tristan led from the front, getting better as the season went on, with both his bowling and batting improving out of sight. He finished as our top wicket taker with 11 wickets and a handy 143 runs. Great season. Other solid and economical bowling and batting contributions came from Gavin (8 wickets / top score 53no), George (8 wickets / top score 38), Momin (7 wickets / top score 45no), Corey (6 wickets / top score 19) and Tom (4 wickets / top score 19) who all collectively, gave us some real strike power throughout the team. Also worthy of mention was George and Momin behind the stumps doing some very tidy keeping work and snaring some fine catches. Also a huge improvement shown by Corey who, in his first season, bowled tidily and took some good wickets with his swing bowling. Tom opened the bowling all season and did much of the heavy lifting early on with the new ball and never flinched. Gavin bowled quickly and accurately and always hit the ball hard. Overall, along with the Mortdale contingent, (who in particular gave us some real grunt in the batting department), we formed in to a strong team that always worked well together and had some real fun times on the field.

The boys’ behaviour all season, was impeccable and they played the game in the right spirit at all times. We deservedly made the Grand Final with only one loss, but with some unlucky calls, unfortunately fell short on the day. That's cricket! Great effort by all and was a real pleasure to have managed all of you in your final (for most) junior season. I hope you stick with the game and good luck next season. Dave Ferrier Manager

Well…. WHAT A ROLLER COASTER OF A SEASON….WITH THE RIGHT ENDING!!! The boys hit form just at the right time of the season. We finished the season proper in 3rd place and the first sudden death Semi Final was upon us. We cruised past ICC in the Semi Final and then the biggest challenge of season faced us in the Preliminary Final against PWS. After the first day PWS had put on a formidable 208 runs and we were going to be missing a couple of key batsmen chasing this total. This was a true test of character for the team and boy did they show what they were made of. Not only did they reach the 208 runs to win but did it emphatically with 11 overs to spare! What a great win. The Grand Final was against the minor premiers Morty Kings who had beaten us twice convincingly in the season. We were in form though, but again we were going to be short of players on the second day, and we lost the toss and were sent in to bat. The opposition had bowled extremely well and were struggling to keep the scoreboard ticking, at drinks we were 2/54 after 27 overs. We needed to get a move on and at the 42 over mark we were 5/111 and moving along steadily but still needed quick runs. Again the team showed what they were made of and knew to win a Grand Final they had to go for it and that’s what they did to finish on a healthy 193 at the end of the 60 overs. We then bowled and fielded fantastically and the pressure was building on Morty Kings who capitulated to be all out for 113 runs in the 47th over. There really was some outstanding bowling and great catches to ensure a well-deserved win and become PREMIERS. Congratulations to the whole team, everyone contributed and should be proud of this great achievement. Well Done boys A big thank you Scott Wunderlich, Denis King and Vivek Ramakrishna who assisted managing and training the team. Mario Pandeli Coach

It was a difficult start to the season – we were short on numbers and it looked like we weren’t able to field a team. But then we had an influx of players from the Kingsgrove club and then we had too many! Ah the fortunes of cricket. After some juggling and many phone calls I found a home for all the players across the competition and we ended up with 14 players in our five team comp – we were now a combined BHE/KCC side. Unfortunately BHE had to turn away a registered player but Ukasha still came to training and most games. As we started behind the ball and were still getting to know each other, we had a slow start to the season. But as it progressed we started to bowl teams out and make them work for their wins, and yet we never lost outright, working together as a Team, I can’t fault these guys and gals and I couldn’t be any prouder. I repeat this statement each year, but I feel it’s important…it’s the heart of the team where without having the 11 on the field plus the reserves, wickets don’t get taken, runs don’t get scored, catches don’t get taken and run outs don’t happen. We have a core group of players that put in week in and week out and although they don’t get all the runs they want or get most of the wickets, they contribute every single time they step onto the field – Solaiman Hossein, Zinedine Zidane, Imran Lateef, Bassim Ullah, Luke Compton, Declan and Caitlin Guilfoyle. From this group came our Team Player recipient – Zinedine Zidane for his infectious positivity. No matter how bad we may have been going he always had a positive outlook on the situation. Our batting this year wasn’t the best unfortunately, but we did improve as the year went and our team totals improved. For the batting award it was close between 4 players but the best was Damien Ha. Special mention goes out to Callum McDade-Jacobs and Imran Lateef who batted out a second innings to help avoid an outright loss -16 odd overs in drizzly conditions under continuous pressure and they did not give in. Well done guys. Also our highest partnership of great batting was from Oishik Sarkar and Sam Grifa. We had other good partnerships both by Damien and Arif. Bowling this year has been pretty evenly divided with all bowlers getting wickets with our best being Rebecca Daher she was closely followed by Aaron Brennan, Solaiman Hossain, Imran Lateef, Arif Usman and Luke Compton. As per the usual BHE way everybody got to bowl regularly no matter their ability – unlike a few opposition teams who generally only played their best. We were always the moral winners in those contests. As special mention goes out to Aaron Brennan a first timer, having never played cricket before he showed that enthusiasm and hard work gets its own rewards. Most Improved was close between three players with differing abilities. Each player showed maturity as the season progressed getting to the next level and continually learning and striving, and I would love to give each an award but I decided to give the award to Aaron Brennan for his eagerness to learn and train and his desire to be in the thick of things. Fielding- well unfortunately it’s not one of our strengths – the intent was there but not the execution. We had quite a few great reflex catches taken during the season which surprised all especially the catcher and the Coach (I’m looking at you Caitlin!). We had 2 standout fielders all year and they tie for the Fielding award – Callum McDade-Jacobs and Declan Guilfoyle. It’s not just taking catches but the ground coverage chasing and attacking the ball, it was the accurate returns and backing up and setting a good example for the rest of the team. I just couldn’t split the two. I was very pleased to see that our Team respected all others, they never stopped trying, never complained and never stopped learning. As we had 14 players, 2 missed out each week but they still turned up and substituted in the field when we were bowling and a few stayed when we were batting, giving support to their

team mates when they didn’t have to be there. TEAM – together everyone achieves more!!! We should all be proud of our young ladies and young men for their wonderful team spirit – a good example for all the other teams in our comp. Overall even though we had a disappointing season in numerical terms I am very proud of all our teams’ achievements and their improvements as individuals and as a Team throughout the course of the season. I hope to see all players back in BHE colours next season. Those players who move onto seniors please consider continuing playing this great game of Cricket. Lastly, a quick and big thank you to all our parents who come to score or to just generally support the team week in and week out and at training – it’s always good to see the parents on the sidelines. I’m sure your children appreciated it. Thanks to the BHE parents, Kathy D, Rod McD-J and Ian G for scoring and helping me juggle training and game days and thanks to Jerry D for filling in as Coach while I was away a couple of times. And finally I wish to send out a big, big thank you to Elizabeth Chipman for visiting and supporting our boys and girls each and every game and most training sessions, showing that our Club cares for them. Also thanks for giving me guidance too – much appreciated! Many thanks and until next year – Paul Compton Coach

The 2015/2016 season saw three St George teams move across to play in the Canterbury/Wests district for the first time ever. This was a new look Kingsgrove team with no less than four new players. We also had quite a few stand-in players who assisted the team throughout the season with a big thank you to Sahail Hoque (14B), Joban Singh (12A), Sam Konstas (12A), Johnny Konstas (12A), Antonio Christy (12A), George Kazakonis (12A), Billy Arena (12A), Zack Salameh (10A) and special mention to John Nicolaou (12A) who helped out in our Semi Final and Grand Final match. Our 2015/2016 season was a runaway success with a dominant performance in both the field and batting. We struggled to play to the Canterbury/Wests unique rules relating to a “drawn” game but the boys adapted well and surged through the season undefeated. We amassed a massive 2537 runs from 13 matches and taking 115 wickets along the way. Lots of personal milestones achieved with two centuries, 16 x 50’s, one five wicket haul which included a hat-trick, 15 catches to our wicket keeper, just to name a few. It is worth noting that every player backed up for representative duties in the Moore and Gee Shields and two boys who also played Green Shield for St George this season. The season had lots of inspirational moments but the one that stood out was the drawn match against ACC. This was a team that was our equal in terms of talent strewn with representative players from both the Canterbury/Wests Assoc. and also the South Eastern Assoc. We bowled first and after a hard day in the sun we allowed the opposition to get away from us and they amassed a formidable total of 7/282. We started our batting the next week and began to falter but our never die attitude saw us reach 7/201 and under the Canterbury/Wests rules, because the opposition didn’t bowl us all out, we managed to achieve a Draw. The inspiring thing was that we didn’t bat for the draw, we went for the win right throughout the game and played our shots even up to the last delivery. This exemplifies the resolve of this team that even when things are tough they still believe they can win. Tavish Humphrey-Jones: 479 runs @ 79.83; 10 wickets @ 27.50 Aggressive batting personified. 13 x 6’s in the season to go with his 45 x 4’s. Scoring 5 x half centuries with a top score of 90 Tavish managed to amass a personal best season with the bat. His bowling and 3 catches in the season saw him achieve some amazing all-round results. Billy Konstas: 652 runs @ 81.50; 22 wickets @ 30.82 Unbelievable season. 2 x Centuries with a personal best 112, including 4 x half centuries, 652 runs in 13 games (Canterbury/Wests Batting Award) but then delivered as a true all-rounder with 22 wickets along with 7 catches in the field. A season to remember. Eric Serra: 357 runs @ 51.00; 3 wickets @ 72.00 Captained the team exceptionally well. Batted solidly throughout the season with 5 half centuries and also chimed in with 5 catches and you would be hard pressed to find a better fielder in the squad. Billy Salameh: 207 runs @ 34.50; 16 wickets @ 27.00 A true team man. Billy has batted well this year hitting 1 half century and 23 boundaries this season. But he has matured into a true all-rounder taking 16 wickets, 2 x catches and a runout. Solid member of the squad and always upbeat and positive.

Harrison Crowe: 194 runs @ 21.56; 3 wickets @ 94.00 Harrison is one of those players who can do it all. He bats aggressively, bowl brilliant leg-spinners and he wicket-keeps when required. He finished this year with 4 x wicket keeper’s catches, 1 x stumping, 4 x catches in the field and 2 runouts. One of the best arms in the field for his age and rarely misses a catch. Ryan Seeto: runs @ 26.75; 1 wicket @ 36.00 Ryan was new to the team this year and was a positive addition to the squad. He opened the batting, batted down the order and even bowled when asked. He was always ready and willing and would make himself available even when it conflicted with other commitments. Josh Vella: 106 runs @ 26.50; 15 wicket keeper catches Josh played his first season for Kingsgrove this year and has been an unbelievable addition to our squad. Josh was our wicket keeper and performed beyond expectation taking 15 catches behind the stumps as well as being involved in 4 runouts. Solid bat and very adept at moving the ball around and rotating the strike when needed. Quiet achiever who gives his all in every game. Lachlan Forrest: 80 runs @ 40.00; 5 wickets @ 39.60 Lachlan was another addition to the Kingsgrove team this year. Bats only 1 way and that is “aggressive”. Joy to watch when striking them well as he generally sends them to the boundary or over. Unbelievably talented leg spinner with a great economy rate. Talhah Tahir: 71 runs @ 8.88; 11 wickets @ 59.27 Talhah was our Wazim Akram…left arm and quick…probably one of the unluckiest bowlers this season with lots of dropped chances in the field. Was on fire in the GRAND FINAL and we can honestly say he was robbed as he had 2 batsmen out 3 times in the one over and they were not given. Team player who gives his all and is one of the nicest boys you would have the pleasure of meeting. Real talent and will go far in this sport. Lachlan Scott: 29 runs @ 7.25; 17 wickets @ 32.47 Lachlan’s bowling and fielding has improved out of sight this year. The 2nd highest wicket taker this year with an economy rate of 2.27 per over. His fielding has been just as impressive with 3 catches (2 of which were special) and 1 runout meant he was always involved in the outcome of each and every game. Alex Lacorcia: 18 runs @ 9.00; 8 wickets @ 27.00 Our gun fieldsman was struck down with injury late in the season and as such his bowling and fielding stats would have been that more impressive. Having said that he still managed to take 8 wickets with the ball in hand and also 2 catches. Even when he couldn’t play he still managed never to miss a match and also put his hand up to score. A true team player and an asset in any team. The No1 fieldsman in St George for his age group…hands down. Joe Serra and Tahir Latif Coach and Cocoach/Manager

What a great year for these young men. At the time of writing we have qualified for the semi finals. A tremendous effort considering the team was in the lower division last year. At the completion of the last round, we finished in 3rd position, one point behind second placed Penshurst White. The boys played each game with loads of enthusiasm and energy and always played in the spirit of the game. As the year progressed, each member of our team has contributed to an outstanding year. We have enjoyed playing hard but fair and at the end of the day we have achieved some outstanding results. We look forward to the semi finals and are ready to step up for the challenge. I can look anyone in the eye and state that I would not swap anyone of these boys for any other cricketer in the comp. I have always said, that on any given day I believe we can beat any team in the competition. Cricket is a very simple game. If you set yourself a small goal, you can achieve anything. Remember, Rome was not built in a day! When you go out and bat, you need to start off slowly and then build from there. Similarly, when it comes to bowling, you just take one ball at a time. Every dot ball counts and above and beyond all, you need to bowl line and length. I wish to congratulate each of the boys on a magnificent year, and wish them all a bright year ahead!

Undefeated Premiers. The team played 8 regular season games winning all games with 2 outright. They scored 1597 runs, took 115 wickets and only losing 53 wickets I first met the whole team at the first training session and it was immediately clear that they were a group of highly talented players with a lot of potential. The main challenge was to mould the individuals into a cohesive team with the correct combinations. The team responded superbly to training with great progress in their skills as was shown by the great results during the year. I was hoping to also lift the fitness level of all the players. This goal remains a work in progress. Assessing the team at the beginning of the year the hope was to win a majority of games but to end the year undefeated was incredible. In addition to go on to win the grand final without losing a game was fantastic and a feat the team should be most proud of. Sandais and Marco were our openers throughout the year and did a great job providing a solid foundation and performing well under pressure. The pair scored well overall as well as been reliable fielders. Sandais was also a very effective bowler with spells of swing bowling. Jessie took on the task of number three with great skill and was able to score quickly with some big hitting. Of note in the grand final he hit the winning runs with a six. Nick and Marc were our pair of talented batsman who took on the task of building big scores and consolidating the great work before them. Nick scored a 50 during the year was one of the leading bowlers. Marc was a leading scorer, made 3 fifties and was the leading catcher. Marc took a classic one handed flying catch in the semi final. Christian was a very talented and effective bowler who also showed great skills in the field. He was a good catcher and very fast in the field. He could also be relied on with the bat. Sahail was accurate and fast as a leading bowler and we were very fortunate he was in our side. His turn of speed and accuracy made him a leading wicket taker. Farhan was our most successful bowler with devastating accuracy and a deadly Yorker. When he combined swing with the toe crusher he could be unplayable. Oliver was our enforcer who simply was always intimidating. He had tremendous speed even when warming up. In addition from scalping bouncers to devastating yorkers he tested the most seasoned of batsman. In the grand finale he had figures of 5 for 12, four of those wickets were bowled. Billy was our wicket keeper who was reliable and frugal when it came to runs behind the wicket. It was so fortunate to have someone who could take the catches as well as being entertaining. Thanks also to Sam and Billy Konstas for their skills and enthusiasm in the semi final and grand final

Overall the side performed so professionally in their roles of batting and bowling but the most pleasing aspect was the fielding. The fielding really distinguished them from many other sides especially when it came to taking difficult chances. Even when there was pressure and challenges in the semi finale and grand finale they stood tall, absorbed the challenge and excelled. They played as a team as is obvious from above, they all contributed to the great success. The team was fantastic their achievement memorable and all multi skilled they have a vey positive future full of potential. Season 15/16 was the second year together for 12B Blue. Unfortunately we were unable to keep the full squad from the previous year, but we picked up some fresh faces most of which had not played cricket previously. The season was looking pretty dour with only 5 teams available which meant that we had two byes to contend with. This added up to 4 weeks without any cricket. Unfortunately, things did not get any better either as we were faced with some wet weekends meaning that two games were washed out. This resulted in a disappointing season of six games that lacked any continuity. We finished the regular season in 4th position with 3 wins and 3 losses and 2 draws (washouts). It was evident from very early on in the season that we the dominant bowling side with our batting a clear weakness that needed work. Out of these games, undoubtedly the highlights were:

• Our fightback against ICC – After having lost on 1st innings and been sent back in – we posted a total of 2/163 highlighted by Riley So’s brilliant innings of 86 n.o. and in the process put the pressure right back on ICC.

• Outstanding Bowling Performance against STJR - After posting a lowly total of 60, we went on to dismiss St Joseph’s for 20 all out – a truly amazing performance.

As the season progressed, we continually re-enforced the importance of relationships in an innings and unfortunately due to the lack of continuity the team never got a chance to build any momentum. This all changed as we led up to the semi-finals where we had to play every week ensuring momentum.

Semi Final 1 Vs KCC Green Unfortunately, we met our fellow club side the 1st Semi Final. It was probably the closest game of the series, but it also marked the turning point of our season. After fielding first, KCC Green managed 4/47 at the changeover and we posted 4/70 at the close of play on day 1. We went on to post a score of 140 and dismissed the opposition for 92. Preliminary Final 2 Vs St Joseph’s Riverwood We carried on from the week before – again fieldling first. The opposition posted a modest 4-45 at the changeover. Then it was our turn with the bat – our innings was highlighted by a magnificent 51no by Clayton Yau who set up the innings beautifully, to leave us in a very dominant position at the close of day one. We went on to post 8/189 and put the game out of reach of the opposition. Grand Final Vs Illawarra Catholic ICC was the best performed team throughout the season and the stage was set for an exciting Grand Final – especially given our performance of 8/22 – when we last played them – but it was a completely different set of circumstances this time around. ICC won the toss and elected to bat. The game started cautiously with very tight bowling and measured batting. Then all of a sudden we sprung to life in the 6th over taking two quick wickets which started the rot. Over the next 8 overs we completely dominated the opposition leaving them reeling at 8/17 all of which were bowled. The game was all but over at this stage despite a gritty fight back from ICC to lose no more wickets and b 8/36 at the changeover. Our batting effort was probably our most complete effort for the year – as everybody chipped in with partnerships – culminating in our total of 8/163 with no batsmen tallying more than 25 – but with most in double figures. This was truly a satisfying performance from a coach’s perspective as it was exactly what I had been preaching all year and what better time to pull it off than a GRAND FINAL! Congratulations 12B Blues – Premiers AGAIN. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the parents, most of who turned up every week to watch the kids. I would like to thank Alvin So for been our scorer during the year and also. I would also like to thank Kevin El-Hassan for been the manager and the other parents who would pick up and drop off any kids that needed a lift on game or training day. It was a team effort by everyone. I am extremely proud of the kids and the way they turned their season around. I hope to see most of you next season and for those of you not returning, I wish you the best in your future cricket endeavours. Finally, I look forward to seeing you at the club’s awards night. The team performed quite well this season after our focus was initially set on improving skills and understanding of the game. I can definitely say we achieved this goal with every player improving in some way and even achieving some personal milestones, which resulted positively in good attitudes, great stories and assisting the boys understanding team spirit. We had a great mix of players who were generally enthusiastic and enjoyed each other’s company. Defeating Illawarra Catholic Club by 82 runs in round 9 was a definite highlight. Making the semi-final was also a great experience for the boys. Unfortunately, we were defeated by the stronger Kingsgrove team on the day. Thank you John Cox for coaching the team, and especially working on technique with all of the boys. John has great knowledge of the game which he endeavoured to share. I’m sure all of the boys appreciated John’s quick wit and humour, even if they only got half of his jokes….. Thank you to everyone who assisted behind the scenes.

• Joe and Rachel Keledjian for their professional scoring and also ensuring all of the My Cricket data entry was tended to.

• Craig Pritchard for always assisting at training

• Jim Vrondas for assisting at training and umpiring

• Peter Gordon for providing the shade. A necessity most Saturdays!

• Faisal Islam for assisting at training and umpiring Well done to all the boys on a rewarding season- Aareez Ali: Aareez enjoys his cricket and loves swinging the bat, sometimes too much. A few big shots this season helped to deliver his highest score of 25 runs. Keep your head down and consistent runs will come. Marios Anthony: Marios was a late registration for the team. However, his presence was important, especially due to some absent team mates later in the season. Marios displayed some real passion for the game which was demonstrated with the bat a few times. Nathan Cox: Nathan loves his cricket but was a little unlucky with the bat this season. However, he made up for this with the ball and took a few good wickets this season. A well-mannered young man who is considerate of his team mates. Sam Gordon: Sam was semi quiet on the cricket oval this season. However, he made up for this with a major role in the Commonwealth Bank cricket commercial, along with a few Australian cricket players. Farhan Islam: A fair bowler and batsman, Farhan proved to be a decent player. Some good knocks with the bat but I enjoyed his bowling the most. It was a pleasure to watch from the umpires end. Ali Jafaar: Ali started the season strongly with a smacking hit of 29 runs in round 2 versus Penshurst West. Concentrate at training and on match day to deliver quality results in the future.

George Keledjian: George proved to be reliable player for his team this season. George played some excellent strokes, and regularly held up his end to ensure the longevity of the team. Georges bowling was also a pleasure to watch, reliably keeping the ball on target. George is a positive player and provides encouragement to the whole team. Nicholas Lipari: Nicholas only managed to play half a season with us. He did enjoy his cricket and had some fun making some new friends, and learning about the game. Rhythm Nath: We thought we’d lost Rhythm in the New Year due to his school sporting commitments. Luckily though he made a comeback to assist his team. A well-mannered young man and is well liked by his team mates. Luke Pritchard: Luke consistently opened the batting for his team. He always stood his ground, even taking a few hits to the body, and he simply shrugged them off. A solid effort and I’m sure more runs will come next season. Luke was also lucky enough to take a few wickets when given the chance to bowl. Dhani Shrestha: Dhani was a bit of a wild card early in the season, bowling quickly and in all directions. He took 2 wickets for 5 runs in the first game. Training and honing those skills will only see improvement in future years. Alexander Tzakos: I enjoy watching Alex play cricket. He is focussed and thinks about his own effort and what he wants to achieve. His skills have definitely improved with both the bat and ball. Pete Vrondas: The rookie with plenty of potential. Pete plays the game well and takes it seriously. He swings the bat well and was quite consistent. Good luck next season. Tyler Watson: Tyler kept wicket again where he was reasonably consistent. He also managed to hit a couple of boundaries this season. I think his highlight was a starring role in the Commonwealth Bank cricket commercial, mainly thanks to his uncombed, shaggy, long, blonde hair. Thank you to all the boys for playing, for your unique personalities and boisterous attitudes every Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning. Remember to listen to good advice and therefore realise your own potential. Most of all, remember to support your team mates. Nathan Watson Manager

Well what a season, from struggling to pick a team to 10A Champions!!!! I am very proud of all the boys for not only winning the competition but even more importantly for how much they all improved. To win that 10A comp with 5 boys who can still play 10’s next year including a 7 year old was an amazing achievement! The boys gave me everything they had at training and on game day and the results speak for themselves. Every single player has improved in all facets of their game and as a coach that is all you can ask for, in some ways it is even more pleasing than winning the competition. As the coach, I am very proud of them and would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge each:- Apostolovski, Ashton: 79 runs @11.29; 1 wicket @ 39.00; 1 WK Catch, 1 Stumping 1 Run Out Assist Well done Ashton on a great season was our star wicket keeper for most of the season and always put his body on the line for the team. Loved playing his shots when he batted and made some huge contributions with the bat throughout the season. Girn, Arshveer: 49 runs @12.25; 5 wickets @ 13.40; 3 Catches, 2 Run Outs; 3 Run Out Assists Ash was wonderful to coach and his batting and bowling have really improved which is great to see. Ash has really improved his consistency and he needs to keep working on that. Great in the field when he was concentrating! Thanks for all your hard work this year Ash and good luck next season. Girn, Hitkaran: 28 runs @4.67; 7 wickets @ 8.57; 2 WK Catches, 3 Run Out Assists Karan has really come on with his batting and bowling this season but still needs to continue to work on that straight arm! A great team player and always had a smile on his face! A pleasure to coach (except when he and his twin brother would swap gear so we didn’t know who was who) and great in the field well done Karan and see you next season. Keledjian, Henry: 55 runs @9.17; 10 wickets @ 8.30; 4 Catches, 1 Run Out Assist Henry had a great season this season and has really come a long way. His bowling was top notch and after a rough patch with the bat his batting has also really improved. His catching and attitude were top notch. Highlight of the season was definitely his 27not out against Penshurst West. He gutsed it out early against their top bowlers then cashed in later when the weaker ones came on. Well done Henry and I would love to see you try out for rep cricket next season. Lindberg, Jakob: 156 runs @19.50; 9 wickets @ 7.67; 5 Catches, 5 Run Out Assists One of our standout players and his stats backed that up. Continued his amazing improvement and development from last season. Thoroughly deserved being selected in the St George Foster Shield side. Loved that he took on spin bowling for the first time this season in a way to add another string to his bow and it is coming along nicely, keep working at it mate. A please to coach and always listened. My one piece of advice to you Jakob is don’t get too far ahead of yourself and continue to work hard! McLoughlin, Taj:150 runs @21.43; 7 wickets @ 13.71; 2 Catches, 1 WK Catch, 3 Run Outs 7 Out Assists Taj was another one of our 3 players who was selected for the St George Foster shield side this season. He was one of our most consistent players whether it was bat, ball, in the field or behind the stumps. Always gave the team 100% at both training and at the game and always wore his heart on his sleeve. Needs to learn not to be too hard on himself and learn from when things don’t go to plan. Thanks Taj for a great season and I look forward to seeing you continue with the improvement.

Myers, Jake: 89 runs @14.83; 5 wickets @ 13.33; 3 Catches, 1 WK Catch, 1 Run Out; 5 Run Out Assists Jake was probably our most improved player for the season. After coming into the team for the first time with his brother Riley this season Jake has shown tremendous improvement in all facets of the game. Whether it’s taking great catches or affecting run outs in the field, taking wickets with the ball or scoring runs with the bat. And to think he still has another year in the 10’s to come I can really see him being a major player in that comp next season. A great team player who always thought of his teammates and was always encouraging them. Well done Jake on a great season! Myers, Riley: 16 runs @3.20; 3 wickets @ 33.00;1 Catch Riley has really come on in leaps and bounds this season after coming into our team for the first time this season with his brother Jake. His bowling and his fielding were outstanding taking wickets and constantly encouraging his teammates in the field. He has also really grown in confidence with his batting and is now willing to get in and give it a go against the bigger boys which is great to see. Can still play 10’s next year and I can see him being one of the stronger players along with Jake. Well done Riley! Salameh, Zack: 166 runs @23.71; 9 wickets @ 6.78;6 Catches, 1 Run Out Another one of our top performers with both bat and ball this year. Zack was one of the team and was also selected in the St George Forster Shield side. A great season for Zack who was such a pleasure to coach, always listened to the coach and tried his best. Zack bowled with great pace all season and if he can work getting that radar consistent he will take a lot more wickets and give the keep a lot less stress. Hit the ball with great power, scored plenty of runs and just needs to watch his bottom hand. Shah, Manav: 4 runs @0.67; 8 wickets @ 10.25; 1 catch Another new player to our side this season and Manav fitted right in even though he was quite a bit younger than the other boys. Considering it was his first ever season of cricket and he stepped up and played in the A comp he should be very proud of himself. He has come a long way this season with both bat and ball. His highlight of the year was taking 3/7 and being one of our leading wicket takers for the season. Congratulations Manav and keep working as hard as you can on all aspects of the game! Sioutas, Anasta: 17 runs @2.13; 4 wickets @ 21.00;1 Catch, 1 WK Catch Anasta always tried his best and was always willing to listen and learn. He made some good improvements this season with both bat & ball and just needs to work on his consistency and he will be fine. A great team player I wish you all the best for next season Anasta! Trehearne, Nick: 37 runs @ 9.25; 4 wickets @ 21.00; 1 run out; 2 Catches, 1 Run out Nick fitted into our side brilliantly being new to the team and club. He has great enthusiasm for the game and is willing to get in and give everything a go. All aspects of his game have come a long way over the season which he should be commended for. A pleasure to coach, well done Nick and good luck for next season and keep working hard on your game. It was a great pleasure to coach the Under 10A Team for 2015/16. I would like to congratulate them on their team and individual achievements and I look forward to watching their cricket develop further in seasons to come. A big thank you to all the parents who assisted me during the season and covered for me and my work commitments. Special thanks goes to Adam Lindberg who managed the side brilliantly and took a big load off my shoulders. The introduction of the team newsletter was a great way to keep the boys motivated and involve the team’s parents & siblings, thanks so much Adam! Also a big thanks to Joe & Rachel for scoring and to Sean for helping out with the team in many ways. Thanks to all the parents for being so punctual each week for both training and on game day! I hope you enjoyed the season as much as I did and I look forward to seeing some of you again next season! Nathan McLoughlin Coach

What a fantastic year from our kids!! I thought they would improve and be competitive this year but I did not expect them to end up being minor premiers and then premiers…super effort that!! I must say that they were a fantastic team to coach, a very respectful and eager to learn bunch of kids. When you have a group like this it makes the coaching job a very easy job indeed. The parent group were also great to deal with this year, very supportive and extremely passionate about their cricket. You were a pleasure to be around each week and provided for a great team atmosphere. We had an emphasis on creating a great “TEAM” and not building the team’s success around a couple of individual’s. We all bought into that philosophy and it worked wonders! Each and every week someone different stepped up and excelled. Achieving this goal was something I was quite proud of. We were only beaten twice throughout the season and this was by the team that ended up coming second (Sth Hurstville / Carss Park). There was a great rivalry between our two teams, we were able to turn the tables on them in the last round, then in the Semi Final and again in the Grand Final taking it to 3 wins and 2 losses against them. The momentum of this great team was hard to stop and looking back on it the result was never in doubt…. Even if we did have a couple of sleepless nights in that GF match! As I said to them they have created a wonderful memory that will last forever, well done to this great team. 8 Blue – Melissa Giradi

On behalf of all the parents and children from the Blues team, we’d like to say a big thankyou to Michael Venn for his endless commitment, help and time. Without him and all the board members of KCC, our children wouldn’t have had the opportunity to play the sport they love. From our team, a special thanks to Steve and Josephine for their invaluable help and time they invested with team management and training, along with Ujwal’s dad who was our scorer every week! A special thanks also goes to Kieran and Katie from the Green team for their contribution and time towards our combined training sessions. Every single parent and child from this team has been a star. I thank you all for your commitment week in and week out. It’s been an amazing experience and my family and I will never forget the friendships that were formed from this. We had a team filled to the brim with natural talent and it was exciting to watch every single Saturday! Our team consisted of: Luke, Samuel, Hussam, Archie, Ujwal, Abdul Rahman, Abdullah, Ahmed and Rayyan. Considering it was the first time playing team cricket for our boys, they started to gel very quickly. What started as snoozy Saturday morning cricket with half hearted attempts at doing anything (especially fielding), quickly turned into confident, enthusiastic and supportive cricket (yes, including fielding). They ran, they shouted, they cheered and soon enough, we were competing with other teams who had a bit of experience behind them already. We had a couple of characters in our squad, notably Luke, Rayyan and Samuel. They were the chirpy type, and provided us good entertainment with their words of wisdom and enlightenment. We had a great range of bowling styles, Hussam showed us some great swing potential, Abdul Rahman had great speed, Ujwal was exciting to watch for a little guy and Samuel was always striving for greater things with his regular YouTube tutorials for spin bowling. Archie and Abdullah were always reliable and handy and Ahmed had improved out of sight after just a few games. Our fielding improved immensely as the season went on. We backed up throws to the wickets, we knocked over stumps with run outs and managed a few catches along the way. As for the diving, I think we are the envy of the soccer elite. The boys surprised me with something new every week. Our batting was excellent, every single one of the kids was capable of helping the team to a great score, many fours and sixes were hit every game. Im so proud of each and every single one of them, we hope the boys will have an opportunity to play together again next season. Melissa Giradi Manager

8 Green – Katie Vidal

Saad Khaldi - Saad entered the team late, but has been a vualuable all rounder as his confidence in his bowling and batting has grown. Ali Oubani - Ali has become a competent batsmen, his footwork has given him a solid foundation to work on and his passion for cricket is impressive. Lachlan Vidal - Lachlan’s enthusiasm for cricket is shown in his improved batting over the season. His sportmanship and support of his team was there every week. Arnav Karyekar - The passion with wish Arnav plays cricket will hold him in good stead as he continues into next season. Arnav’s bowling style is continuing to strengthen as well as his batting skills. Parth Taya - Parth always enjoyed his time on the field, his batting improved throughtout the season and his bowling was growing in confidence Imbrahim El Cheikh - Imbrahim was another late entry to the Green team, but he was a valuable one. His enthusiasm to learn and be a part of the game allowed him to develop a consistent bowling action. Jawad Rashid - Jawad joined the team for the second half of the season. He was beginning to show a lot more confidence on his cricketing abilities by the end of the season, Katie Vidal Manager

Throughout the season many players demonstrate the qualities and attributes to be a fine cricketer - effort, improvement, attendance, sacrifice, perseverance, sportsmanship, dedication, and reliability. And in some cases they have the statistics as well. Congratulations on an excellent season, but remember it would not have been possible without team mates taking catches, saving runs with good fielding, partnering the batting and encouraging you all the way. Remember to thank your coach, team mates and family for their support. You could not have done it without them.

Spirit of Cricket

This is an occasional award sponsored by Subodh Shirodkar's business, People Practices Australia. The Management Committee will identify a club member who demonstrates the spirit of cricket, not necessarily by their achievements, but by their attitude and approach to the game.

This season we have two citations with multiple winners:

CALEB BARTIER, LACHLAN BOGAR,

COOPER MILES, CLARA IEMMA These players have been nominated for their loyalty to the 16A team. While we ultimately had to withdraw the 16As from their competition after Rd 7, these payers were the heart of the team through those games. Despite losing teammates to grade call ups from St. George, University of NSW and Randwick, these players kept the team going with support from numerous players from other grades. The Management Committee would like to recognise their loyalty, perseverance and contribution to the 16As and the club throughout the season.

JOBAN SINGH Joban had a great season in the 12As where he was their all rounder for the season. He also achieved two hat-tricks – a double for the 12As and another playing up for the 14As. All significant achievements. But this nomination is for declining another hat-trick. In the round 12 match against Beverly Hills Eagles Joban had taken two wickets in two balls and was on track for another hat-trick. But the incoming number 11 batsman was in his first year of competitive cricket and very inexperienced. Rather than bowl one of his normal “thunderbolts”, Joban decided to just roll his arm over, forgoing the opportunity. The Management Committee believes this act exemplifies the spirit of cricket that we want all Kingsgroive players to bring to their games.

Club Person of the Year

This occasional award recognises a person associated with the club who has contributed significantly above and beyond their normal role.

VIVEK RAMAKRISHNAN Vivek is a young many who has never played for KCC. He played his junior cricket fot St George Leagues. Through Denis King, Vivek expressed a desire to become involved with a club again. This lead to him helping out with the 16As, 16B Greens, Milo program and the Blast players on Friday nights. He took on coaching, managing, scoring, umpiring and general organisational duties throughout the season. Such contributions to the club without any real connection is quite outstanding and we want to recognise his efforts.

The Albert McDowell Award

The award honours long serving junior players who have given and shown great loyalty and service to their teams and the club. The award recognises the love these players have displayed for the game of cricket as well as their efforts, sacrifices and achievements. To be eligible – the players must be completing their final junior year with Kingsgrove Cricket Club. The award is named after Albert McDowell, father of Ray the club’s founding father and our Patron.

THOMAS CHERIAN Thomas has played all his junior cricket with Kingsgrove starting out in the under 10s. In all he racked up seven succesful seasons with the club, winning several premierships. He typifies what this award is about. Not necessarily the best cricketer in the team but someone who loves the game and has supported Kingsgrove throughout his career. He has never won awards, except for the Coach’s award in 2014/2015, but he was always there in the background, contributing to the team. A real club person club person who has always made himself available to assist other teams in the club when injuries and general absences have hit. His skill levels, sportsmanship and general attitude have won him widespread respect and admiration among team mates and opponents. He impressed his coach and manager this season who said Thomas is a very fine, well mannered fellow who played in right cricket spirit. He tried hard tried hard and gave his best. He was always reliable and toiled away opening the bowling where he did a lot of the heavy lifting against the oppostiion’s better batsmen. He never showed any dissent, disputed an umpire’s decision, or complained. He was a real asset in the team. Thomas has adopted this approach in his seven seasons with KCC. Congratulations Thomas, and well done.
