Most of the countries stipulate that the fire pumps to meet the

standards issued by the National Fire Protection Association –

USA. KBL designs the fire pumpsets as per NFPA –20

specifications to meet the stringent fire safety norms and at

the same time for cost effectiveness.

Apart from NFPA many valued customers require that pumps

and controllers are also approved and listed by world

renowned fire certifying agencies such as Factory Mutual (FM)

or Underwriters Laboratories (UL). Our pumping systems are

manufactured and exhaustively tested in compliance with

stringent approval standards set by these agencies. With

these international approvals a fire pump system has greater

reliability in preventing damage to property in case of fire.

Controllers

To ensure that the package meets the quality norms of the NFPA

and FM/UL Standards and to have total compatibility controllers are

sourced from experienced and reliable manufacturers who follow

similar specifications and processes.

Controllers for electrical motor driven fire pumps are available for

various methods of starting. These include Direct on line, Star-delta,

Auto-transformer, Soft start etc..Packaged Diesel Engine driven

pumpsets incorporate 12V or 24V DC controller.

Controllers can be supplied free standing or mounted on the base

plate, completely wired and connected to the pump package.

PRIMINGThe proven exhaust gas ejector primer can lift water from adepth of 7.0 m in 30 sec., at NTP conditions.

CONSTRUCTIONAL FEATURESPUMPA single stage centrifugal pump is directly coupled to theengine and driven through a flexible coupling.

MaterialThe pump end is made of lightweight corrosion- resistantaluminium alloy and impeller is hard anodised for better wearresistant.Alternatively, the pump end can be offered in bronzeconstruction.

Shaft SealingA long life self- adjusting mechanical seal is fitted, whichconsists of a carbon ring rubbing on a stainless steel face.

Delivery and Suction ConnectionsThe pump has two delivery outlets of 21/2� with instantaneouscouplings and stainless steel screw down valves. The suctionis a 4� round threaded tube with a blank cap.

ENGINEThe pump is powered by a four cylinder, four stroke watercooled 988cc engine. The engine is fully enclosed with noopen or unprotected moving parts.

PowerThe engine is adequately powered, with 37.3KW (50 HP)power output.

CoolingA closed circuit cooling system utilzes a heat exchanger ofadequate capacity to maintain the correct enginetemperatures. Due to this arrangement, the set is capableof running even at high ambient temperatures as high as+65oC

Fuel TankA stainless steel fuel tank of 13.6 litres capacity, adequateto allow pumping at the rated output for one hour continuousrated running. The empty fuel tank can be replaced with afresh full tank, without stopping the engine, therebypermitting continuous operation for an indefinite period.

StartingAn ignition switch and a push - button electronic startingdevice is provided with a fully protected high efficiencyalternator. A standby auxiliary hand recoil starter is alsoprovided for emergencies.

The Kirloskar KPF-1600 is a self-contained petrol-enginedunit designed for continuous operation at the rated output. Itis capable of runinng at rated performance immediately afterstarting from cold.
