Kirrawee Kooee Term 1, Week 10 Kirrawee Public Shool, Bath Rd, Kirrawee NSW, 2232 Ph (02) 95214514 WEEK 10, TERM 1 Principals Message This is our last week of school prior to the Easter holidays. I would like to thank the students for their commitment to learning this term. They have settled into new classes and new routines very well and they are making amazing progress in learning. The children resume school on Wednesday 26 April 2017. The school will resume for teachers Monday, 24 April. All staff will be engaged in professional learning mandated across NSW government schools. Teachers and their supervisors will develop 3-5 goals for each year. Strategies will be put into place, evidence gathered and an evaluation plan devised. These achievements will reflect accreditation standards and school goals. Thank You to the P&C and the general community for supporting Kirrawee Public School. HEAD LICE ALERT There is an increase of HEAD LICE around the school. This is a common occurrence in all schools, however, it is a cause of concern as students across the school may be affected. Head Lice are extremely contagious. The only clear action to ensure ALL students are not affected, is for ALL families to work together and take action to prevent and or minimize the spread. Symptoms to look out for: children scratching their, fine black powder on pillows, lice eggs in hair, etc. If you notice any of these signs, please contact the local chemist, as treatment is readily available. REMEMBER: Only If every child is free from nits, can everyone be safe from further infestation. REPLACEMENT TEACHER We say farewell to Ms Kirkis at the end of the week and wish her all the best as she continues her teaching career at Bankstown Public School. The replacement teacher is Mrs Shannon Newman- her first day will be Monday 24 April 2017. Semester One: As a public school, our basic operating costs are covered by the NSW State Government, however, we still depend heavily upon parent contributions and fundraising by our P&C in order to provide a rich and enhanced learning environment. Learning Packs have been implemented for the convenience of parents. Included in this package: our excursions, online subscriptions, specialist PE programs run by Got Game, etc. Thank You Selwyn William

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Congratulations to Alexander Efthimiou 2/3B

Cooper MacLean 4/5M

Benjamin Fuller 3/4M

These students have just completed the 2017 Premier’s Reading Challenge in record time. They are the third

and fourth students to have their PRC reading records validated.

Well done boys.

We have more students than ever before participating in this year’s Challenge with 165 students currently

registered. I’d like to encourage those students to keep up the good reading and remind them to keep their

Reading Record Log sheets up to date and in a safe place.

Entries are due in early-mid August ahead of the 25th August deadline.

HAPPY READING

EARLY STAGE 1 REPORT

Early Stage One Report We are very excited about how well kindergarten are responding to the literacy program, L3 implemented this

year in Early Stage One. Students are really starting to take off with their reading, sight words and writing –

they should be congratulated on their remarkable progress already! We are fortunate enough to have regular

visits from an L3 trainer who keeps us teachers on track with the program and provides ongoing training and

feedback on our literacy lessons.

On Harmony Day we learnt about where some of our parents and grandparents were born. We looked up

these countries on a globe and a virtual globe that flattened out into a map.

In maths we have been learning about subtraction or taking away. We practised taking away from ten using

unifix cubes and doing a funny dance!

We would like to wish all our families a relaxing and safe Easter break.

Mrs S Parker and Mrs C Harris (Kindergarten Teachers)

STAGE 2 REPORT Stage 2 is looking forward to their excursion next week to Kurnell. All notes and money should have by now

been sent in.

We were impressed by the high standard of speeches presented last week on Fables. Many students were

well prepared and were able to summarise the fable as well as clearly explain the moral.

Mrs Beckman and Mr Morgan (Stage 2 teachers).

STAGE 3 REPORT Stage Three Canberra Excursion – PACER Rebate

Students from our school have recently undertaken an educational tour of the nation’s capital. Students were

given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history,

culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national

capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion

the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20.00 per student under the Parliament and Civics

Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of

the excursion.

SUPPORT UNIT REPORT The last few weeks have been very busy for our Support Unit Students. There were 9 Support Unit students at the Disco, 10th March. They had lots of fun dancing with their friends. We wore bright clothes to support National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. We enjoyed joining our Peer Support Groups for discussion and activities. 21st March we wore Orange to Celebrate Harmony Day. We all have to get along together to make our world better. 22nd March we went to The Tram Museum at Loftus in a bus. It was a beautiful sunny day! We had rides on 2 different trams, where we went across the road and waved to the cars. We also saw a lot of old trams and sat in some. We played on the grass after having our lunch. It was a fun day! This outing supported our Unit of Work for term 1, Transport. Mrs Stephens, Mrs Rauicava, Mrs Harvey, Mr Welch

23rd March, we had Bike Safety Day and a few of our friends brought bikes and scooters to school. It was a fun day.

The final speech for Term 1 will be next week and it will be Spotlight News. See separate note for further details.

Students whose speech day is Thursday or Friday need to plan to have their speech ready for Monday,

Tuesday or Wednesday.

KPS Munch and Crunch

What a great day the children had on Footy Meal deal day combined with bike day! Thank you to the fabulous volunteers who made footy meal deal day a success. Bonnie Wong and Lyn Lo Castro for baking cupcakes (and helping on the day), Moira MacFie, Megan Allsopp, Bindy Darling, Leanna Dega, Lisa Harris, Narelle Fabris and Cassie Browne. Without volunteers these types of days cannot go ahead and your help is very much appreciated! As the term comes to a close some items will become unavailable as we try to run down stock, I’ll do my best to ensure that the children get close to what they have ordered. Online ordering is a great way of ordering as you can see what stock is available. At the moment banana milk will be unavailable until next term along with blackcurrant lol’s. I wish you all a fabulous Easter and looking forward to a great term 2! I will be in contact with volunteers in regards to the term 2 roster over the next couple of weeks. Volunteer Roster 29/3- Loren Blouin, Lin Lamaro, Bonnie Wong 30/3- Michelle Pashine, Lin Lamaro, Bonnie Wong 31/3- Linda Elliott 5/4- Kathryn Mills 6/4- Joe McLaren 7/4- Easter Hat Parade and Grandparents day

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF SERIOUSLY ILL CHILDREN Join us in the St Moritz Room at Engadine Tavern on Saturday May 27, 6.30pm to raise much-needed funds to help seriously ill children in their time of need. Plan a fun night out with your friends and purchase tickets for $60, or $600 for a table of ten, and be treated to a delectable assortment of cocktail food, fun trivia, games, lucky door prizes and a gift bag for every guest. Take part in various auctions on the night, which will provide guests with the opportunity to bid on a unique selection of generously donated items, including signed sporting memorabilia and experiences. Monies raised will be used by Ward Angels, a not-for-profit organisation that donates to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead Ronald McDonald and Bear Cottage. Funds will help to purchase valuable resources, including equipment, gifts and books, for the children at Ronald McDonald House.

It is a personally ambition of mine to put smiles on the children faces who are stuck in hospital on

Christmas day. So with the funds I raise on this night I will be personally purchasing gifts to hand over to

them on Christmas day.

So the items that will be up for auction will not be able to be claimed as a tax deduction. I do apologies

but please still dig deep as it is for a good course and will be a great night for everyone. To purchase tickets, or to donate a product or service, please contact, Janelle McClellan on 0407 289 374 or email: [email protected] ID: ATFWoo47/17
