Athletes are some of the people who are most at risk for MRSA infections. MRSA is most common in high physical contact sports such as wrestling, football, and rugby. However, MRSA infections are being reported in soccer, basketball, volleyball, base-ball, field hockey, and martial arts among others. MRSA infections also take place before and after participation in sports in locker rooms, weight rooms and artificial turfs.
The CDC states that good personal hygiene will protect against the MRSA virus. Athletes who do not use proper protocol can easily transfer the MRSA virus to other players!
Famous athletics who have contracted the MRSA virus include, Payton Manning, Kennen Winslow Jr, Kenny George, recently even 6 Cleveland Browns Players etc.
