A big thank you to all the whanau that came to the School BBQ. I enjoyed meeting and getting to know you all. It was also wonderful to hear about the things your children enjoy doing here at Kokopu School.

For those who were not there, next year our three-year strategic plan is up for renewal. We will be doing a more formal community consultation in term 3. This will include having your say on what you would like your child to learn, what school activities are important to you and looking to the future in regards to our school environment.

Our three key goals over the last three years have been:

Developing inspiring teachers Achieving amazing things together Building an inspiring learning environment

This year we have some exciting initiatives including;

Continuing to extend students and staff writing skills using the WTE program. The program structures writing so that students clearly understand and use the rules of good writing.

Continuing to build our positive school culture through the PB4L initiative and having high expectations of our students so that they are demonstrating our core values of Respecting Ourselves, Respecting Others and Respecting our Environment.

Students and staff will be doing some work around the new Digital Technologies curriculum this year. The DT is about not just being users of technology but makers of technology. Including, patterning, cod-ing, robotics, making our own technologies.

We are going to continue to work on our school environment this year. There are going to be some beau-tification projects and possible development of the sandpit and gardens.

Please feel free to come in and see me at any stage if you would like to catch up. Kind regards, Yaron Overeem.

School Donation and Accounts This year the school donation will remain the same as previous years. Unfortunately the Ministry have only funded schools

who are decile 1 to 7 to enable them to do away with school donations. We miss out on this funding, as we are graded as decile 8. The donation is $50 per child with a maximum of $100 per family. Year 7 & 8 technology fees have been

charged at a discounted price of $65. Also camp fees for the seniors have been sent out too. Please get accounts paid asap.

Kokopu School Swimming Sports

This Thursday 27th February we will hold our swimming sports here at Kokopu. Everyone is welcome to come along and support the children. The first events start at 9:30am with Year 4 to 8 races in mixed order. This will be followed by Year 2 and 3 demonstrating their skills. Lunch will be at 12:30 followed by Year 1 showing off their water skills at 1:15pm.

The PTA is selling food at the event—sausages in bread, chips, drinks, ice blocks all $2 each.

Reminder—School Gate and Car Park

PLEASE DO NOT USE THE FRONT GATE WHEN DROPPING OFF AND PICKING UP YOUR CHILDREN.

Please use the designated car park to drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon too. In the afternoon you need to come into the school grounds to get your children. They must not be out in the carpark unsupervised! We have recent-ly had a couple of incidents with vehicles in the car park and on the road side. If you have any traffic issues out-side the front of the school, we would encourage you to report them to the Whangarei District Council. A form is availa-ble if you follow this link below: http://www.wdc.govt.nz/OnlineForms/Pages/ReportaProblem.aspx

Drop Off at School

We have noticed recently that there are students being dropped off at school early in the morning. The school is open for students from 8:30am, unless arriving by school bus. We would appreciate parents making sure that students don’t arrive too much earlier than this. If students are here earlier than 8.30am, parents are still responsible for their care.

PTA Fruit and Veg Stall

This is up and running again and is a fantastic fundraiser. Please remember if you have any surplus fruit and veggies you would like to donate just leave them in the stall! For a koha, you can take a bag of whatever is in the containers. This has been running really well and your support is appreciated.

Teacher Only Day On Friday 27th March we will be having a teacher only day. Please make other arrangements for your

children and do not send them to school. Thank you for your cooperation.

Netball

If anyone is interested in getting a Kokopu School netball team together again this year, please register your child's interest with Louise email [email protected] or email the school office.

Year 7 and 8 Tee Shirts

Please see the order form below for Year 7 and 8 personalised tee shirts, with their name on, which we would like to or-der by the end of the week. Most of our Year 8 students should have their own tee shirts from last year. The cost is around $50 (to be confirmed) for a new one. Please fill in the form below or email your permission with their size. Some of our seniors have been borrowing tee shirts from school and not bringing them back. We have recorded the number of the shirts they have taken. Please ensure these shirts are returned each week, otherwise a charge will be made for them.
