The beauty of our religion, traditions and services ensures continuity from generation to generation and to keep our Judaic values alive and thriving. Are we doing enough to keep our traditions alive? Are we passing them down to the next generations as they were passed to us? Do we celebrate those traditions in our homes and as a community in our synagogue? I ask, because the stresses of modern life frequently cause us to put off those things we take for granted while we are chasing something that in retrospect, may not be that important at all. The pages of the calendar keep changing and our holidays come and go one by one. Each holiday brings with it the rich traditions of our parents, grandparents and our people. Whether it is the chicken soup recipe, the candlesticks, the silverware or the brisket there is a little bit of our past in everything we do. The beauty of our religion, traditions and services ensures continuity from generation to generation and to keep our Judaic values alive and thriving. Are we doing enough to keep our traditions alive? Are we passing them down to the next generations as they were passed to us? Do we celebrate

those traditions in our homes and as a community in our synagogue? I ask, because the stresses of modern life frequently cause us to put off those things we take for granted while we are chasing something that in retrospect, may not be that important at all. Come be with us at B’nai Aviv as we perpetuate our traditions and help you create new traditions along the way. Light your Shabbat candles, bake a challah, attend a Shabbat service and remember where we came from. Open yourself up to that which made us who we are, so that future generations will have the same chance. I look forward to seeing you in synagogue and at our amazing programs. While we are creating our future together we will be guided by, and never forget, our past.

Pirket Avot 2:5 states: “Do not separate yourself from the community; do not judge your fellow until you have reached his place” What does this mean? For a person should always be part of a community and not judge others. This is what early childhood is all about. Classroom teachers work to create an accepting classroom community along with the parents. With each new school year, new concepts are be-ing introduced and new programming is being planned for our Kehillah. We are excited to have this year our new indoor playground, our new Mommy and Me program called Zumbini and have added Yoga and Sci-ence to our curriculum.

This year’s PTO committee is being led by Shera Anderson and Stephanie Franco. They will be bringing new and exciting activities and projects that benefit our school and community. As our Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, heralds in a new year for our Jewish community, it is our hope that all our hearts will be filled with compassion and gratitude. Shanah Tovah! May this be a good year, a We are looking forward to a wonderful, community building school year!

B’ Shalom! Mindy

Happy end of summer! Please RSVP four our Sisterhood Comedy Kickoff. It has been re-scheduled for October 26th. Please rsvp for the new date. October 15th we will be having a special trip to the Nova Holocaust Museum. We will have the opportunity to experience the new ex-hibit that will be on display during this time. HOLOCAUST BY BULLETS. It is a traveling exhibit that is amazing. Plan to spend two hours for sure that day. This new exhibit is self guided and is world renowned. Look up Father Patrick Desbois on Google and watch the clip that was on CBS 60 Minutes. He is on Nova's board

and is the foremost researcher in the world on the mass murder of the Jews in the Ukraine. Our groups will first have the tour of the Holocaust Reflection and Resource Rooms, followed by our own viewing of the new exhibit. Be sure of this ....we will leave that day a lot more knowledgeable about the Holocaust. Space is extremely lim-ited. There are 2 times available 11:00 am and 2:15 pm. Please rsvp to [email protected] to claim your spot. As always, Sisterhood will continue to provide the "goods" for after the Shabbat Onegs. If you are in-terested in joining our baking group, contact Louise Allen ([email protected]). If you are not a baker and prefer to buy your baked goods, we will be happy to add you to our weekly rotation of plat-tering store-bought kosher desserts. Both are done every week and everyone looks forward to it. New this year is our weekly game day- Mondays from 1-4 (note new time). Anyone interested in play-ing Canasta, Mah Jong, Bridge or anything else, we encourage you to bring your group to the Synagogue and get your game on! For more information contact Carol Brown ([email protected]). As always, feel free to share any ideas you may have with me and I look forward to you all to get involved.
